i was originally using a dell R710 but found it to be very limited being only a 2U, i was gonna make a JBOD for it to put my disks in, but instead upgraded my main rig and put all its old components in a 4U to set this server up. its been going strong for months now and i love it. iv got all the PCI lanes populated with network cards and wanted to swap the GPU out with a 10gbe SFP+ card to get fast storage access to my other 2 servers i have deployed atm. (would make more sense to buy a 10gbe switch, but i have a stack of SFP+ cards already on hand and can just have them run on their own net) when i get more money down the road it will be rebuilt more properly, as it stands its only running services for me and friends so if it goes down yea it sucks, but its not super mission critical.

thanks guys, i might just use a Miner riser card to free up the x16 slot and let the gpu hang out the back super janky

i built a storage server running windows server 2016, also acts as a private email hosting service and runs a minecraft server. but main purpose is mass storage containing 100tb of storage for my home network. server is a running a Ryzen 7 1800x in order to install the OS i needed a GPU so i threw a cheap gt640 in it. now that it is setup can i take the GPU out and throw a network card in its place as this server is only ever connected through RDP. wondered if anyone knew before i went though the hassle of taking the server down to just find out it wont.
