  1. What are you using to test overclock stability? Could you not simply drop your core clock overclock back a few MHz (~20 or so), you'll only get a marginal decrease in processing power to increase stability?
  2. Should work fine. It's an x58 platform and I ran a 1080 on mine until I upgraded it to a Ryzen. AFAIK a 1080ti might just saturate a x16 PCIe 2.0 slot, but not by much. Still you'll get a lot more processing power at lower power consumption - by the looks of the performance spreadsheet that keeps going around it looks like you'd get double the PPD for lower wattage with a 1080ti.
