  1. Sooo this must be checked before compressing right? A shame will have to redo 5 hours of compressing, its alright though ill do it while im asleep They were defragmented before the images were taken so no problem there. Since im going to recompress them anyway, got any more suggestions on what other winRar settings should i set? For example im seeing "Use BLAKE2 file checksum" and "Save identical files as reference"
  2. Im doing some archiving and i got some Image backups that needs to be archived. Its about 1TB worth and since these are full disk image backups i know that compressing them will significantly reduce their size because not all imaged disk were full. I actually got a 370 GB compressed file. My question is after compressing is it guaranteed that the files in the compressed file didnt get corrupted, does WinRar verrify it while compressing? (or is that an option that i have to enable). If winrar doesnt are there other zip program that do verify it?
  3. Unfortunately no, if this would be possible this is what i would have done, since it would be the easiest no investment to additional equipment needed. No electric cars here in my country thats is affordable yet Oh this is a nice idea, I think i might indeed buy an induction stove/oven. Will have to cost analysis because gas is cheap here about 20 $ for 10kg. Im in a tropical region, there is no winter. Production in the rain season is still pretty good But it looks like i still have to mine crypto even if its not cost efficient.
  4. Hey guys im exploring ideas on how to make a bit of passive money from my PC. A couple of months back i had installed solar on my house (very cheap since i know the ins and outs) and i just basically filled up my whole roof with panels. Its great and all but i have a suffering from success moment, my bill currently is at a negative ~2000$ and is still going down, my electric company does not let you withdraw this amount and it expires after 1 year. Im basically donating money to the electric company. I have been scrambling ideas how i can make passive money with that excess electricity, and the only thing that pops into my mind is crypto mining. Are there other alternatives ? Im at work during the day so the house is barely using any power during the day, The other idea i have is a small 3d printer that prints during the day but selling 3d prints takes a bit more effort on my part. I also doubt that a 3d printer draws that much power ( i read only about 0.07kWh).
  5. you misunderstood it sir, what i ment by that is that there is a software program doing the backups. Oh and also I ended up choosing tower servers they fit within the budget and offers the latest gen of xeon chips (albeit its the lower end ones), I am in talks with someone that might get me a brand new lenovo thinksystem ST50, RAM and Storage will be bought separately (probably second hand on the ECC RAM). Im pretty much buying this for the motherboard and CPU :<
  6. Yes there are already proper backup solutions, its done in software so it wont be included in this part. My job here is to build pure hardware, that allows the software guys to be as flexible as they possibly can and not be limited by the hardware. Yes there is already an existing UPS system, this build will just be added to that. The backup power is beefy and can handle an additional system no problem. Only AMD AM5 DDR5 has built in ECC? nothing so far on intel side? I see so i guess ill just skip the idea of redundant PSU, and just go for a really good one seasonic SSR-650PX 80+ platinum perhaps?
  7. yes all in house, but i still want redundancy with the drives, as that would save some future inconveniences the minimum specs they gave me is a literal potato pc, a pentium CPU for example.. but i was given a budget that i must fully use, so yes it would be waaay overkill, couldnt hurt to be overkill in this case
  8. mostly text, images. around 100 clients. Im not privy to what is really happening in software , the task that was given to me was to build a PC for a sql server, was given 1250$ budget that i must use as much of it to make it as reliable as possible. I understand that it might be a total waste, but i wont argue with my boss with that , i mean it cant really hurt to be overkill they have the cash to burn anyway
  9. Hello was given a task to build an sql server, and was given a budget of $1000 - $1250 to fully built the best to fit within that budget. I already identified some specifics that i want: CPU: Im not sure what to go with, should i go with server specific CPU or get a powerful desktop CPU, at my pricepoint a server cpu might be to expensive. maybe a intel i7 13700k or a ryzen 9 7950x (a bit pricy though) RAM: 32GB or 64GB ECC (If CPU supports) DDR4 ram, i dont know if quad or dual channel is better here will have to be taken into consideration overall budget, Storage : 2x 256GB mirrored for OS and 2x 1TB samsung pro mirrored for the database (db file is around 5gb, with backups taking around 1-2gb) MOBO: This will depend on the CPU but generally i would want 2.5GB or 10GB networking built in if possible. Also should i do the raid with the mobo, i rarely see a raid controller nowadays. Powersupply: Typically you want a redundant powersupply but im having trouble looking for one, i might get a 80+ gold/platinum powersupply for that extra effeciency since the system will be on 24/7 Any thoughts? i think im overbudget and have to reduce on some places
  10. Not the lite version, its the standalone messenger app, also of not it happens on pc chrome and firefox (and any browser i would assume)
  11. messenger app, but please not it also happens on the chrome browser version (or any browser for that matter)
  12. Do you guys still use Facebook messenger? if so im so confused on something (messenger is still widely used in my area) So i have pinned messages with this specific person that i would like to remove, but something is weird i could not find the unpin button, its just not there. You might say that update my app, but it happens on both browser messenger and iOS messenger (yes the app is up to date) and also its only specific to this person. My other contacts still has the pin/unpin buttons. Anyone knows why is this happening? Am I blocked or something? The type area for the text is still there though and i dont see a "you cannot reply to this conversation" prompt. any ideas?
  13. I got a Synology single bay NAS, with a SSD on it (dont really need lots of space, and redunduncy, just needs a device to quickly hold non critical files for easy access accross computers). I was able to setup some folders that i can access accross the computers but theres two more things i would like to do: Right now there in my network devices. i can see my nas with named "CABINET" (not actual name) and when i click it i get my 2 folders that i setup. "SECRET" and "NOT SECRET" (Again not actual names). right now the saved username and password of CABINET on the computers only has access to "NOT SECRET" folder. now when i transfer to another PC i want to pull a file from the SECRET folder, BUT it its very very difficult to change account on the network drive, in windows 11 i have to go through some cmd commands to do it. After getting the files from the SECRET folder i have to sign out again and sign in with the non secret account. which is very complicated to do everytime. I want to host a folder on my nas that will require a password access every time i open the folder. Can this be done? What is it called?
  14. disable recycling bin... you can do that? files gets permanently deleted always? To be honest i have been permanentlly deleting files(shift + delete) more frequently lately.
  15. That is the great thing of using up to date OS because you will have to never worry, you wont have to come to a point where you would need those kind of support. Programs will always be optimized with the current latest OS.
