  1. Hi everyone, I recently built a new PC for video editing, livestreaming, music production and gaming. Initially, I decided to go with the stock CPU cooler (AMD Wraith Prism). However, as I am doing a lot of audio recording lately, it turns out that it is too noisy for my use case. I therefore turn to you guys for advice on which CPU cooler to get and whether I might need to add some additional case fans as well. My top priority is that my PC should be as silent as possible under load to minimise noise levels in my audio recordings. What kind of CPU cooler do you recommend? Do I need to get additional case fans? If yes, which would be recommended? What BIOS settings might a change for more quiet Operation? Here the specs of my build: CPU AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 3.8 GHz 12-Core Processor Motherboard ASRock X570 Taichi ATX AM4 Motherboard Memory G.Skill Trident Z Neo 64 GB (4 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 Memory Storage Crucial P1 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive Storage Seagate BarraCuda 4 TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive Video Card MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11 GB ARMOR Video Card Case Phanteks Eclipse P400 Digital ATX Mid Tower Case Power Supply Corsair RMx (2018) 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply Capture Card Blackmagic Design Decklink Studio 4K Thunderbolt 3 Expansion Card ASRock Thunderbolt 3 AIC I am looking forward to Hearing from you! Many thanks in advance hho
  2. Hi everyone. I finished my new PC build yesterday but encountered some problems with one of my PCI expansion cards. My Motherboard the ASRock x570 Taichi has five PCIE slots: 3 x PCI Express 4.0 x16 Slots (PCIE1/PCIE3/PCIE5: single at x16 (PCIE1); dual at x8 (PCIE1) / x8 (PCIE3); triple at x8 (PCIE1) / x8 (PCIE3) / x4 (PCIE5)) I therefore installed my GPU in slot 1, the Blackmagic DeckLink capture card in slot 3 and the Thunderbolt 3 AIC in slot 5. However, the DeckLink card wouldn't get recognised neither by the device manager nor by the Blackmagic Desktop Video software. I therefore switched it to slot 5 but to no avail. But when switching the GPU to slot 3 and the DeckLink Card to slot 1 the card was recognised. When I switched the cards back to their original slots, it couldn't get recognised anymore. My question to you is now, what steps I could take to make the capture card work in either slot 3 or 5. Altough I'm tempted to just run the DeckLink Card in slot 1, I'd prefer having the GPU there for it to be able to profit from the bigger bandwith provided by the slot. Here's my build: CPU AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 3.8 GHz 12-Core Processor Motherboard ASRock X570 Taichi ATX AM4 Motherboard Memory G.Skill Trident Z Neo 64 GB (4 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 Memory Storage Crucial P1 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive Storage Seagate BarraCuda 4 TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive Video Card MSI GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11 GB ARMOR Video Card Case Phanteks Eclipse P400A Digital ATX Mid Tower Case Power Supply *Corsair RMx (2018) 750 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply Custom Blackmagic Design Decklink Studio 4K Custom ASRock Thunderbolt 3 AIC Windows 10 Education 64 bit version 1909 build 18363.752 BIOS version 2.70 (latest version) Many thanks in advance for taking your time to help me with my problem! Kind regards hho
  3. Would cache and speed of my NVME drive matter, when recording video footage directly onto the SSD via a capture card? I plan on capturing ProRes 4K 10bit 4:2:2, would the P1 work fine for that?
  4. I agree, it would be nice to have an SSD based system only. However cost is a factor. What kind of SSD storage solution would you recommend?
  5. Thank you for your swift reply! Just for clarification, is it right that the Strix-E doesn't support Thunderbolt 3? Would there be other SSD options with Caching that could be cheaper than the EX920? Is there anything you can tell me about these questions: ?
  6. Thank you for your reply! The Corsair RMx is actually on sale where I live, so that's great. I chose the Taichi partially for its header for Thunderbolt 3 AIC. What does the Rog Strix E Gaming offer, that the Taichi doesn't? Could I use the ASRock Thunderbolt 3 AIC also with the Rog Strix E Gaming? The HP EX920 is double the price of the Crucial P1 here in Switzerland. What benefits would I get from it?
  7. Hi everyone, I plan on building a new PC for video editing 4k 10 bit and Blackmagic Raw files in Davinci Resolve, including animations, as well as livestreaming and doing video conference calls mostly in 1080p, sometimes in 4k with my GH5. Furthermore I do music production using Bitwig and FL Studio, using a good amount of VST plugins but also recording vocals and instruments. Occasionally gaming triple A titles, preferebly in 4k. From time to time I also do some scientific programming in Matlab, Python and R. My budget lies around $1600 but willing to spend a bit more if necessary. Here is what I've come up with: CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X 3.8 GHz 12-Core Processor ($418.89 @ Amazon) Motherboard: ASRock X570 Taichi ATX AM4 Motherboard ($289.99 @ B&H) Memory: G.Skill Trident Z Neo 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 Memory ($189.99 @ Amazon) Storage: Crucial P1 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive ($104.99 @ B&H) Storage: Seagate BarraCuda 4 TB 3.5" 5400RPM Internal Hard Drive ($86.48 @ Walmart) Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 1080 8 GB Founders Edition Video Card Case: Phanteks Eclipse P400A Digital ATX Mid Tower Case ($98.98 @ Newegg) Custom: Blackmagic Design DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K PCIe Playback Card, 6G-SDI ($195.00 @ Adorama) Custom: ASRock Thunderbolt 3 AIC R2.0 Total: $1384.32 I plan on using a GTX 1080 from an older build but look to upgrade later in the year, when prices for top of the line grapics cards may have dropped a bit. I need Thunderbolt 3 ports to connect my audio interface (UAD Arrow) to the PC, so that's why I've included the ASRock Thunderbolt 3 AIC. Furthermore I included a Blackmagic Design DeckLink Mini Monitor 4K PCIe as capture card for recording and livestreaming. As monitor I use a Philips BDM4065UC/00. Now to my questions: - What do you think of this build? Any parts you would exchange? - I still need a PSU and an optical drive (preferably with blue-ray capabilities), any suggestions? - I'm thinking about adding a UAD-2 PCIe DSP accelerator Card (https://www.uaudio.com/uad-accelerators/uad-2-pcie.html) further down the line, would that be possible? - In my country (Switzerland) the ASRock Thunderbolt 3 AIC R2.0 (https://www.asrock.com/mb/spec/product.asp?Model=Thunderbolt%203%20AIC%20R2.0) is currently not available, but the older version (https://www.asrock.com/mb/spec/product.asp?Model=Thunderbolt%203%20AIC) is. Does anyone have experience with these cards? Is there a significant difference? Thank you in advance hho Edit: I'm aware that 4k AAA gaming on the highest settings might not be possible with a GTX 1080. However for the time being I'd be willing to compromise and lower the settings if necessary.
