1660ti is more performant, however vram is the main benefit, 6gb over 4gb, I think that's where it will be most beneficial.
The 5500m isn't horribly slower in compute than the mobile editions of the 1660ti

Checked the hinge hasn't cut through or torqued a cable away from either side (monitor or main board)
Would require a strip down, so depending on location be careful how far you take it apart as may void warranty
Got 840/850/omen in my house, and besides the omen only charging when in standby on the 'travel' chargers from the 8xx series, they all work with each others
Hey never said was a good idea, but that wasn't the question.
It is technically possible, whether it's a good idea or not is another question. Obviously not a great idea, I'd return it if I could and buy a different laptop, but hey.
If they do the same chassis/model with a higher res screen then odds are you can replace it with one of those, just need to work out what panel is being used. Perhaps try tftcentral or similar see if you can locate the replacement, or search for the updated models replacement parts on ebay/etc
My 850 is terrible for getting fluff into the coolers, have to pull the whole fan assembly out to remove it, a can of air doesn't do it, believe me. Pull the fans, and the fins, and clean them, you will be shocked how much difference it makes
Got one of my 850g3 unlocked, they need profe of purchase, and the serial etc, they send you a file you plonk on a USB, and when it boots it unlocks the machine. Depending model there are some places that can generate the file for you without going through HP, but always safest to go with the OEM
Sounds daft, but pull the ram and disk, and try power it on, if you get a beep/flash code then at least the bios is trying to initialise, if it does try then pop a single stick back in try again, if fails try other ram slot see what you get. Add thing back one by one if you do get a boot at any point and see what's causing the failure
If you have a dremel with a thin cutting bit you can notch the center with a line, this can then be crewed out with a flat head driver carefully, what I normally do
I've ordered my laptop, wondering if anyone knew where to get a skin for the lid etc? Anyone know which chassis model this is, so I can have a dig around?

Thanks
Ordered one from pcspecialist
17.3" VYPER
10875H with ARCTIC MX-4
RTX 2070 SUPER
32GB Corsair 2666MHz
1TB PCS PCIe M.2 SSD (have a 2TB Samsung Evo that will become second, and a 1TB Sabrent that I'll use for boot, so this will go in external caddy)
£1800ish so I'm happy, just hope that the Clevo/TF chassis is decent.
Seems as the overclocker one is a clevo, had a look on pcspecialist and get a slightly upgraded version for same money,
10875H, 32GB, 1TB, RTX2070Super
Think I'm going that way on Monday. Unless anyone has any information on Clevo's and doubt over their abilities?
