  1. On my new build, I accidentally installed Windows onto an HDD designated "E:" I would like the system disk to be my SSD designated "C:" No problem, just reinstall Windows, right? Yeah, but I also installed a handful of apps, including the Big Kahuna Microsoft Office. What is the best solution? Reinstall Windows on SSD and migrate the apps? Reinstall windows on SSD and erase Windows from HDD but leave apps? Clone the HDD to the SSD and not worry about the designated drive letter? Clone the HDD to the SSD and tell Windows to designate the SSD as "E:"? Or some other even better solution? Putting Windows on the SSD is not a big deal, I'll get that done one way or another. My concern, as I am sure you know, are the apps and their designated locations in the Registry. This stuff is over my head. Thanks.
  2. I just completed a new build, using MSI Meg x570 Unify. I have three M.2 storage drives populating slots on the motherboard. I have one 2.5in SSD occupying a slot in my case. What is the easiest way to find out which letters have been assigned to which drives by the system? Thanks!
  3. UPDATE. I installed the drive as a data drive and was able to recover all my data after entering in the BitLocker Recovery Key. Obviously the boot system on the drive is corrupted. The next step is to try and fix (reinstall) the OS, and see if it leaves everything else alone.
  4. Recovery key. The Recovery key works. After I enter it, BitLocker permits me to continue. I should add that when the BitLocker window first appears it gives you the 6-digit "key" for the drive, so you can go and try to find the correct 48-digit "recovery key." Yeah, we are on the same page. But I just don't understand how BitLocker works? Is the drive still encrypted after I enter the Recovery Key? Is the "lock" requiring the key stored in the CMOS or on the drive? If it is on the drive, then why did clearing the CMOS set it off? Is that a "feature" of the security? Thanks.
  5. Yes, I have the BitLocker Key, and it has been entered. BitLocker is using default setup, I did nothing to it. I have a TPM on my desktop, but I do not know if it came standard on my laptop? This situation is on my Dell laptop.
  6. I have a 2018 Dell XPS 15 9570. I do monthly backups, and wouldn't you know I have a situation with three weeks of new data on my hard drive I would like to rescue -- I needed a new battery, but during install I apparently did something wrong regarding static electricity, and the computer would not boot unless I cleared the CMOS. The computer booted into Auto Repair, and the BitLocker screen appeared. After digging through multiple MS accounts, I finally located the correct BitLocker key. I know that Bitlocker is disc-wide encryption, but that is all I know, and where I need your help? What happens to the disc once I type the key back in, does it become readable to other machines? To continue -- I first tried restarting the system, it went back into Auto Repair and required the Bitlocker Key again. Second I tried to "restore" from a point before the battery change, that did not work either, it went back into Auto Repair and required the BitLocker Key again. This final time I instructed the Repair program to just shut down the system after I put the key in. So where do I currently stand with the SSD? Is it readable on other machines? What if I install it as the data drive and not the boot drive, can I access it to retrieve the last three weeks of work data? Or is everything still encrypted by MS BitLocker? Thanks.
  7. It worked. You are a gentleman, a saint, and a scholar. Thank you for your help, I will pay it forward.
  8. I get the BIOS splash screen and am able to go into BIOS. But it is somewhere after the BIOS that the boot hangs. If I give it fifteen or twenty minutes sometimes the Windows 10 splash screen will come, but the hang continues there. If I just leave the computer alone for an hour, the system timesout. When I installed the new components I had some difficulty getting the DRAMs seated and had to power the system off and on a few times (listening to error beeps) without letting the boot fully cycle. Maybe I damaged something? To swap PSUs I had to change all cables and completely rewire. Did I miss something? I tried booting from a recovery flash drive and there was no difference. Thanks in advance for any help.
  9. I have one too. Will never change. I type faster and make fewer mistakes with my fat fingers.
  10. Does folding with my CPU (Ryzen 7 2700) slow down folding with my GPU (AMD RX 580)?
  11. I asked F@H for a new passkey (I think they just sent the same?). I re-entered it into the client. It reset the the client, and appears to have fixed the problem. Thank you.
  12. You can see my stats here -- https://folding.extremeoverclocking.com/user_summary.php?s=&u=944491 I am using an x570 mobo with a Ryzen 7-2700, 32 gigs of RAM, and an ASUS RX580 gpu, over a 1 gig cable hookup. Where is the bottleneck? I am using both the cpu and gpu to fold, and have it set to high.
  13. I don't get it. I do as many work units as everyone but don't earn as many points? I have done 25 work units and only earned 125,000 points. Am I missing something?
  14. Yeah, I could have replied to him with a dose of critical negativity, but with this being a good cause, why not just keep everything positive. Cheers.
