  1. I am back with new information. I left the pc on bios overnight just to see what would happen. I woke up to the monitor off, and a6 on the debug LED. SSD = dying/dead? That's the first time it's ever turned off in bios. If I were to update the bios, which I'm still hesitant to do, do I have to go in order (p 4.40, p 4,60, etc etc) or do I just jump straight into L5.01 that released this year? EDIT: is that a 6 or a lowercase b? A6 is drive related and ab is bios related.... kinda weird how u wanted me to update bios....it's kinda starting to make sense
  2. No it doesn't freeze in the bios. I've never updated or changed bios before bc I'm too afraid it'll brick something. It worked fine up until this point. I'm on bios P4.40 What tells you it could be bios related and not like the cpu/gpu/mobo etc?
  3. 5950x Evga rtx 3090 (relatively new to my pc) X570 Taichi 32gb ddr4 3000 RAM Corsair rm850x psu Samsung 500gb 850 evo boot drive Some other random ssds/hdds I'm going to start off by saying I have not had a single problem until I went over to my dad's. All my components never had any issues at my house. A few days ago I packed up all my pc gear and ventured over to my dad's to stay a while. For about 3 days everything was fine. Played a bit of Elden Ring, some call of duty and some other random games with no issue whatsoever. Then all hell broke loose. I started to get pretty consistent DCP watchdog violations, I got annoyed, gave in, and finally did a SFC Scannow, it found errors and fixed them made everything worse. (I didn't do a DISM if that helps.) So what happens now is I will consistently freeze on the bios splash screen. If by some miracle I actually get into windows it'll freeze about a minute after. Boot into safe mode you might suggest. I can't. It freezes after a minute even in safe mode (if I make it past the bios freeze) Try using recovery tools on a USB you also might say? I can't. It freezes after a minute. Try a brand new fresh installation of windows on a brand new ssd? I can't. It freezes after a minute. Yes, unbelievably, I know... I genuinely thought that a fresh install of windows on a legit brand new ssd would solve everything. It didn't, it still freezes during windows setup. Should I just go to Amazon and grab a gt 730 or something then return it when it ultimately still freezes? The only thing I can do is get into bios at this point. Im literarly running out of ideas. Do any of these signs point toward something?... I can't exactly test ANYTHING bc you guessed it, it'll just freeze.... Things I've done: Tried all 4 ram sticks separately Cleared CMOS Re seated gpu Tried booting w/o a gpu then realized the 5950x doesn't have an igpu, shamefully re installed 3090 Unplugged everything but the sole ssd with windows on it Tried a different port with a different sata cable Made sure all cables were secured into the drive(s) DIDNT test a different gpu, I can't test this one as I'm over at my dad's. I will not update the bios, as it'll probably just freeze and brick the system even more
  4. I've recently gotten interested in doing a themed build. At bare minimum I'd be replacing a motherboard b/c my current one is pretty basic and doesn't have an ARGB header. Also planning to swap cases as well, which is basically a full rebuild. With that comes a question: should I take this chance to sidegrade to the 3600 from the 9600k? I've probably watched 30+ videos comparing the two and haven't seen anything negative towards Ryzen, Its praised for its raw value/performance per dollar. The general consensus is "why pick the 9600k over the 3600?" Sure the 9600k has SLIGHTLY better gaming performance in general, but the 3600 does literately everything else faster/more efficiently. For the OC enthusiasts prepared to say the 9600k can overclock better/more, I've never overclocked, and most likely never will, I wont be missing much from that department. With the 6c/12t of the 3600, I'm also betting it will age much better than the 9600k. On a random sidenote, 95% of the build guides over at /r/buildapcforme recommends Ryzen processors, so I'm over here thinking I did something wrong. It feels really stupid to buy a $200 Z390 motherboard when I can drive to the Micro Center instead, grab a CPU/Motherboard bundle for $70 more and increase productivity performance across the board, while still keeping 90%+ of my current gaming performance. This board checks off so many things, Its mainly black/white, It has an ARGB header, its got WiFi for the random occasion when I need it, pre installed IO shield, and its Ryzen 3000 ready, so no hassle of getting an older Zen 2 chip, updating bios, etc. Current specs https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zjHGhg My original plan was to just replace the motherboard and case, get some custom PSU cables+custom GPU backplate then call it done (EDIT - Motherboard is on sale, just assume its not, I'd like opinions as if nothing were on sale, then hit me with your sales opinion) https://pcpartpicker.com/list/VBmHq3 But then it hit me, The Ryzen Rebuild plan (?) https://pcpartpicker.com/list/HqsCZf The case is listed as paid for, But it sorta isn't, My current case is a little...pricey... So I think I'll have most of new case cost covered by selling my current one. TL:DR/Main question: Is it a stupid idea to even think about swapping to the 3600 from a 9600k? Should I just swap motherboards, case, get custom PSU cables with a custom GPU backplate and call it done? With the motherboard on sale, its an even harder choice now...
