Its 2020, and my Alienware Area 51 R2 is in need of some serious upgrading and I need some advice from some folks who are smarter than me... I would like to upgrade the motherboard, CPU, RAM and GPU. Here is what I am currently running:
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-5820K CPU @ 3.30GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980
RAM: 16GB Quad Channel DDR4 at 2133 MHz
PSU: Alienware 850 Watt Multi-G PU Approved Power Supply
MOBO: X99 (0XJKKD)
Ideally, I would like to be running:
CPU: i9-9900k
GPU: NVIDIA 2070 or 2080 RTX
RAM: Min. 32gb (Trident G.SKILLZ or some Corsair Vengeance maybe?)
I am open to a compatible motherboard. Not sure if the PSU would need replacing? I think the 850 watt one should be fine?
Now, the hard part... is there a way to upgrade while keeping the lighting effects and other features of the case? Should I also be considering beefier cooling (fans, liquid cooling, etc?), given the hardware I would LIKE to have?
Any tips would be appreciated. I love the case design, so I would like to be able to keep it, if possible.
