  1. Hi RejZoR, thanks. Yes, CDI has now become an essential part of my toolkit. How I missed it all these years, I'll never know!! Gone through all my spare Hdds, and thankfully they are all worth keeping. I'd never considered buying a second hand hdd before, but times are hard... no pun intended... makes me realise that some things should always be new. I'll just have to delete some of my lesser played titles from my Steam library and hold off till I can afford a shiny new drive.
  2. No matter, I'll buy new instead. They didn't actually take my payment, so no loss. I'd prefer not to deal with people who don't know what they're doing or are trying to pull a fast one.
  3. Thanks lord Xeb.I'd forgotten about reading the hex values! The seller reckons that it was formatted under GPT at 3.5TB, but when it arrived it was 2TB under MBR...the state of the postal service these days!! ?? Seller asked that I send it back, goodness knows what they're gonna do with it??
  4. Thanks all for your input. It looks like the drive is failing ( see attatched pic). Lord Xeb, I've been through all that, and it just fails to complete and the disk disappears from the window or console. Tried copying over a 1Gb video file, and it struggled to do that! Thanks kokosnh, but it does apear to be a legit drive And thanks WereCatf for your help, It was 50/50 fake or duff, turns out it was a duffer. Now I gotta let the seller know I'm not a happy bunny...
  5. It's weird as it shows up as otherwise healthy. I'll format it under MBR tonight and see what cdi makes of it.
  6. Tried formatting with Gparted and still no joy. Most irksome.
  7. Using Linux had crossed my mind, and I do have a spare rig with Puppy Linux on there. Thanks for the reminder, I'll give it a go after I see what Crystaldiskifo can tell me. Cheers.
  8. Hi folks, this is driving me nuts! Just bought a second hand HDD, and it willl not complete a format when under GPT. If I convert it to MBR then I can format up to the 2TB limit, with the rest unusable. But I didn't buy it to do that. I've used diskpart to clean and try and format it, but it always encounters an error 'The parameter is incorrect.' on attempting to format. SeaTools doesn't even see the drive even when its been formatted under MBR. Am I missing something really simple, that I'm gonna kick myself about? Or should I return the drive as unfit for purpose? There are other drives on my system that use GPT. Any other info needed will be gladly given. TIA.
