I have an HP Pavilion 15 gaming laptop, a while ago I started to run into boot loop issues where I would encounter random restarts. Note, that this is following a RAM upgrade from factory 1 by 8 gigs to dual channel 16 gigs (total) of RAM. For a while, it seemed to be working fine until the issues began. At first, I had assumed it to be a corrupted SSD and replaced the factory one. When the issue persisted I discovered that Windows was only detecting 8 gigs of RAM. On the other hand, HWinfo detects both sticks of RAM and recognizes that I have 16 gigs total installed. This discrepancy is true for the BIOS as well which only displays 8 gigs. Through some troubleshooting, I discovered that the lower RAM slot seems to be inactive. The laptop won't boot with a single stick in that lower RAM slot, however, functions fine when the RAM (either stick) is installed in the upper slot. I guess I'm overall just confused why HWinfo detects both ram sticks, while windows seems to overlook it. Furthermore, what does this mean for me? Is my laptop done for? Where can I go from here?
