  1. My SFF case blocks access to the SATA ports on my ASRock b550 itx board, so I would like to plug a 2.5" HDD into the front panel connector on the motherboard (officially a "Front Panel Type C USB 3.2 Gen2 Header"). Something exactly like this except: (1) the SATA connector end is quite "tall". There's only one place I can fit the HDD and it accommodates only ~5mm of clearance in that dimension. The whole thing will be entirely within the case, so no need for a connector shroud etc (2) this cable (on moddiy) is really long (I only need ~20cm) and pricy Any thoughts on a cable (or sequence of cables) that could save me while maintaining ~5gb/s? Thank you!!!
  2. Second this - the Aero is great. If you're lucky to have an office outlet store nearby, used Millers are awesome value (they're built like a tank and lots of Aero spares on Ebay). I splurged ~$700 but not planning to buy another chair for a loong time.
  3. If you mean all 4 are blowing the same direction, the answer is its better than only 2 exhaust fans or only 2 intake fans, but not a ton better
  4. With a portable monitor, ready to hit the road!
  5. Well, if you have a DP port, I can confirm that this DisplayPort - USB-C cable worked for me! (The only asterisk is that it doesn't provide sufficient power to my monitor (which is powered solely by USB-C). Fortunately my monitor has 2 USB-C ports, and I plugged my PC's charging cable into the other port. Curiously, plugging a USB-C cable from my desktop made the whole thing not work - it must've defaulted to looking for a signal from the wrong cable.) So here is my 3950X 16-core "laptop"..... =P
  6. Awesome! Do you know roughly what speeds to expect? I'm transferring 4k footage from drone...
  7. I'm not sure if this exists, or what terms/places to use to find it, but I'd like to get a small front panel mount that has a micro sd reader and on the other end connects to the MB. IE something just like this but with only 1 cable and the microsd reader instead of the USB port. (my itx case doesn't accommodate anything larger) Thanks so much for any leads!!
  8. I wanted to write this up for the few people like me who need an sff PC with many cores and casual gaming and drone video editing... And in the process, push back a bit on everyone saying SFF or 120mm AIO is horrid for high-power chips. I'd been eying the 6L Velka 7 every since Linus Velka 3 video, and (PCIE cable aside) this case is a joy to build. Within these constraints, I settled for a 3950x, 32gb RAM, ASRock B550, and 2x1TB NVMEs on the MB. As <47mm of air cooling wasn't gonna cut it, I set up a 120mm ML120L AIO and a Noctua 120x15mm slim fan next to the EVGA 6gb GTX 1060. Technically the case is 1cm too short to accommodate both of these, but with a trim to the GPU cover and the fan frame, things jive well. [in that 1cm of overlap, the layering goes: 5mm of GPU board - 12mm of (trimmed) fan frame - 27mm of radiator - case wall] Oh and I installed the PSU "upside-down" so the AIO fan blows not into a wall but into the PSU (and sometimes helped by the PSU fan). In the end result, thermals under all-core loads limit the CPU to 4.1ghz @75C (in 23C ambient). Compared to the best-case scenario of 4.3Ghz, I'm only losing like 0.75 cores of performance. As a bonus I can tell laypeople I keep 16 computers in a lunchbox and play Cyberpunk. Even though it only gets a narrow niche of math problems between pencil-and-paper and the HPC cluster with its unpredictable queue line.
  9. So I’m halfway through the build of my Velka 7 (loving it!), and found the 645lt might *just* fit height-wise. I set things up so the Psu intake will be right below it in this bay and help move the air. in this situation, I’m wondering: should the aio cooler fan be (a) on top the aio rad (ie case wall - fan - rad - psu) or (b) on the bottom (ie case wall - rad - fan - psu)? I assumed (a) is better since the aio psu fans could work as a push-pull config, but then again I don’t know that the psu fan runs all that often… I ask because the way things worked out, I could get a 120mm aio instead of the 92mm if the aio fan next to the psu (option b) works well. (that said, not sure Asetek 92mm 645LT vs CoolerMaster ML 120Lv2 differ much anyways)
  10. Possibly a silly follow-up: might this bidirectional DisplayPort-USBC cable connect my portable USB-C monitor to the DP port on my desktop's GPU? I only found one article on my monitor regarding this approach, though it gave no explanation on why it fails "connecting the monitor to a power source through one USB-C port and supplying a signal from DisplayPort to USB-C with an image through the other USB-C connection failed"
  11. I have a SFF PC for the CPU (I do parallel simulations that need cores over speed) and casual gaming. With upcoming travels though I need to downsize. Current Build (modded ~12L Metalfish S4 case; pic below) 3950X, Scythe Fuma 2, ASRock B550 ITX, Corsair SFX SF600, and EVGA GTX 1060 6gb (173mm length). I'd like to switch to a Velkase Velka 7 + AIO, where I have the AIO rad adjacent to the GPU (kinda like here, though they somehow managed a 120mm AIO) Case length 289mm - 173mm GPU = <115mm space for an AIO rad Anyone have wisdom on what particular AIO could work well? The issues are (1) tube length, and (2) performance. (I realize thermals will be far from great, but I'm constrained to a <8L form factor) Thank you!!
  12. I have an SFF PC (ASRock B550 ITX + EVGA RTX 1060 6gb) and need to do some travels with. Is there any way I can connect it to my Dell 14 Portable Monitor - C1422H (which typically connects via USB-C)? Thank you!!
  13. Noob airflow question: having the case fan pulling in air right up against the grill, I can't feel any flow inside case >2cm away from the fan (at 100%). Adding 1cm space between grill and fan, I feel much more airflow inside 10cm from fan (CPU fans off for testing). Is this an illusion or do grill/fan spacers really help?
  14. Also tried MB bios update but no avail. Seller mentioned testing GPU before shipping. New to PC building so would really appreciate any tips! EDIT: tried in another PC, GPU dead.
