  1. I see. From what I've read, your Intel motherboard above is actually UEFI. I'll read more for now to confirm the (non)existence of compatibility issues with legacy BIOS. Thank you for your efforts, @xKyric and for taking the time to reply!
  2. Thank you for your response! I had really been considering a Xeon since I've read somewhere in the internet that they could be good alternatives to the quad-core i5/i7s in that period of time, just priced differently. I've even read in another that before, people would prefer to buy the Xeon over the i5/i7s because of the equivalent performance, which led Intel to change the chipset required for Xeons so that it won't work on similarly-socketed boards with those of the i5/i7 consumer processors. Again, thank you for your input. I will retain the stock cooler for the time being. Will the RX 470 still work on an old Legacy BIOS motherboard? I was considering buying it online yesterday, but had second thoughts because of its compatibility. I've read somewhere that some cards have a UEFI/Legacy BIOS switch for compatibility and I was afraid the said card did not have such. And by the way, my current PSU has two (2) 6-pin connectors also, a thing to consider. Will an RX 470 be a practical pair to a Xeon X3440 (assuming I'll decide to buy the Xeon)?
  3. This is the image of the cooler from the manual. I think its the Intel class H-1156 as listed in the image. Will retaining it for the time being after an upgrade to an i5/i7 (except the i7-860) be safe/okay?
  4. If I upgrade to an i5/i7, can I keep the stock heat sink and fan? Or is an upgrade necessary? I am totally ignorant of CPU cooling and I wonder that a quad-core CPU might have different cooling system compared to a dual-core one. I do not intend to overclock, but I have to include a new cooling system in the plan if it is necessary and practical. I have searched on some discussion boards that this board can actually support an LGA 1156 Xeon, as its chipset requirement is the same as with the i3/i5/i7 ones. Assuming that indeed a Xeon processor works, and considering the performance and the price difference in the second-hand market, which in your opinion could be the best option? For the GPU, I guess you're right. I probably wouldn't put the GPU as top priority for now, considering the other parts. But when I do, can you suggest to me a GPU that could still run on Legacy BIOS motherboard? I have read somewhere that new AMD GPUs don't work with Legacy BIOS anymore.
  5. I just plan on retaining it. I do not really intend to have a gaming PC, per se. I haven't got much time because of work. I only want to have it upgraded or maxed out, when capable/practical, because it is still a working piece of hardware. Thanks!
  6. Hi. Thank you for your response. I am considering an i7 from the second-hand market as you've suggested, but I am also considering a Xeon, if that is any good. May I hear your opinion on this? For the PSU, I believe the one herein is not a stock PSU but already a third-party one. It is a true-rated Korean-brand PSU. The GTX 650 TI is connected via 6-pin connector. There is also an extra, unused 6-pin connector. I understand that it may or may not be worth it. It's not my daily driver and I also do not intend to spend so much on old hardware. I just intend to keep it alive for the time-being as I am not really comfortable throwing away things that still work. The upgrading will go only go on when convenient and practicable. Thanks!
  7. Hi. I was given an old, but still functioning, HP Pro desktop and decided that I would gradually max it out instead of just throwing it away. It is not my daily PC but I plan on having it for entertainment in my house for movies, internet browsing and maybe some gaming, where capable. Here are its current specs: Processor: Intel Core i3-530 (73W) with its stock heat sink and fan. Motherboard: HP MS-7613 LGA 1156 RAM: 8 GB (4x2GB 1333 mhz) GPU: Nvidia GTX 650 TI PSU: 500W Please give me advice on the best CPU and the GPU to buy for this motherboard. Also, I'd like to ask if it would also be necessary to upgrade the heat sink and fan if I replace the current CPU with a quad-core one without any intention of overclocking it. Please help. Thanks!
