  1. Think the tint film is two or three shades too dark, it also LOVES peeling up at the edges. Need some actual acrylic tint.
  2. This card did NOT want to fit inside the Raven, I had to remove the dust filter and bottom mount from the middle of the fan just to get 4mm of clearance
  3. Got those parts printed out and mounted to the panel, secured with m4 screws in tapped holes. I was able to get some threads tapped at the top too and just used two black thumbscrews to tie the whole thing together. I was amazed how it looked after I peeled off the film cover, don't know if I even want to go with tint right now.
  4. Picked up some tint film and applied it to some scrap acrylic. Was a fast application so there's bubbles, but I reallly like the tone. I'm dumb and didn't realize that you can't really use tint film on plastic and the edges don't stick at all, but I have yet another terrible plan to deal with that so I can use this stuff until I get something that actually works correctly.
  5. Decided to ditch the 2005-ass windowed side panel and just make one fully out of acrylic. I didn't go with tempered glass because I can't machine it, and custom sized glass gets real pricey. Lowes had a nice thick sheet that was almost the perfect size from the shelf, and I think if I can find a way to apply some tint film I can make it look almost as nice as glass. Just had to slice a bit off the top, and now the tricky job is working out how to mount it. For the lower mount I'm going to go with these 3D printed hook things I modeled up, and for the top I think the sheet metal is just thick enough to tap so I'll just use thumbscrews. My GPU comes today and I have a sneaking suspicion it's about .25" too long to clear the lower fan, but I have a janky plan to get around that, stay tuned.
  6. Got most of my components today and put the thing together, still waiting on my new GPU but holy fucking balls even just the CPU upgrade makes me feel like I'm in star trek or some shit. Basic renders like the one shown that used to take literal minutes now take fucking 4.65 seconds. I timed it.
  7. Told you it would look better, PSU shroud coated with some gloss white.
  8. This is my PC thing I guess This whole build started purely out of my frustration of modern cases. They seem to all be lacking in one or more of what I need for my workstation. Call me a boomer or whatever but why the hell does no modern case have more than three 3.5" drive mounts and why are they sealed of glass boxes with zero airflow? Whatever. However, my old Raven RV02 fits every single one of my needs and still has some of the best airflow in the whole market, you can check out GN's video on the case for legit numbers. But I wanted to give the case a modern update and a refurb, since it just doesn't feel like a new computer if I just put new parts in my current case. I don't really buy into water cooling for personal use systems for the most part, and with a good tower cooler paired with the Raven you can easily match or beat the temps of many popular AIO's for way less cash and less worries of reliability. Guess I should let you know what hardware is going into it, but I want this thread more to be a log of the build process rather than another intense debate on the parts I chose. -Silverstone Raven RV02 Case (Duh) -AMD Ryzen 7 3700x -Hyper 212 argeebee CPU cooler (Probably going to swap this for a Noctua NH-somethingsomething) -ASrock X570 motherboard -Intel 660p 512gb NVME boot drive -OLOy 32GB kit (2x16) of DDR4 3200 ram (CAS latency 16) Yes I know this ram probably isn't rYzEn cErTIfIED but it was VERY on sale forgive me. Yes I need 32GB of ram this is a workstation I do big boi work. -MSI RTX 2080S Gamer edition X trio Gamer -Seasonic X-series gold 750W -Samsung 500gb Sata M.2 Scratch drive (Reused) -Lots of terabytes of my old hard drives that have stuff other than porn I promise -Other parts that I have forgotten Here's the old crusty build, I've already stripper the facia for cleaning and repainting. Old build inside it was a i5 3570k at 4.(something) ghz with a EVGA GTX 980 for those who care. Cat I'm sorry Case mostly stripper for decrustifacation no more c r u s t The weird top case IO cover thing had cracked in the middle so I came JB weld on it Old trim panels keyed with sandpaper and dusted with some primer, And then white paint. Color used was Rustoleum Ultra Matte white, really happy with the tone and texture. Top IO cover thingy came out REAL nice. Tried to limit how much paint got onto those inside edges to make it easier to install / remove from the case. Don't put stickers on your shit. This oven cleaner helped ease my anguish. Old side panels scored with gritty bois, primed, and bukkake's. Happy with how they turned out but I'm pretty sure I'm going to omit the windowed panel entirely for something fancier, stay tuned. Always use mineral spirits to decontaminate surfaces before painting. Getting onto some more custom stuff, I never liked the old flat drive covers of the RV02 and felt the front of the case was very bland, so I modeled up these funky drive covers in SolidWorks and printed out a whole bunch of them on one of my Ender 3's with black PLA No the drive covers aren't vented, there is no venting in the front of the case that's not how the Raven works Put the case back together and real happy with the drive covers, Yes there's one missing from the top, there's a reason for that ;3 I ripped out those dumb HDD activity lights and modernized the front frosted logo thing with a strip of three aregeebee LED's glued to the back. The beginnings of a custom fabbed PSU shroud thingy. I promise it will look a lot better once it's painted. It bisects the fan but I'm not too worried since it's a 180mm thiccboi and there are two more that go alongside it. If it's an issue I'll add an angled section to the bottom of the shroud to remove the restriction. And here's why I left that top 5.25 bay empty. Designed an adapter piece that will allow me to install a WiiU gamecube controller adapter and wire the whole thing internally. Really happy with this. PC is Gamecube now. That's all I got for now except more cat
