  1. Hi everyone, Honestly, I don't understand the fine points of audio. I don't get how things will work in practice so I need help with coming up with a audio setup for my PC. Quick Background and Needs: I had a kick-ass 7.1 HT setup (had a built-in vaccum tube amp). Now I live with my GF and she keeps complaining about the loud music, so I need to replicate that kick-ass audio with a Headset setup. Going for Sennehiser HD660S. Currently have an Asus Xonar Essence STX I to work with, I was using them to power Sennheiser GAMEONE and GSP500, but I don't think it will be enough for the HD660S. I am not sure how or if the Xonar can fit into the equation based on the HD 660S, maybe it can be used as a DAC. Ideally I don't want this piece of equipment to go to waste. Want to replicate the 7.1 HT setup; want that big, clear, distinct, crisp surround sound through the HD660S. Want to clearly hear bullets flying past my ears in games and huge starfighters soaring above me when I watch Star Wars. At the same time I want to be able to kick back and relax and listen to music. Using the setup religiously every day for either gaming, music or movies. My current understanding is that the Xonar will not be good enough to drive the HD660S and get their full benefit. Having said that, I figured I need an external desktop amp. If that is the case I want a vaccum tube one because I really like the look and my HT had the same built in. From there I think I need a DAC to convert my PC digital audio to analog for the amplifier. The DAC is what I really don't understand. If I have a DAC then my fear is that I won't get that surround sound experience, which is really important to me. But I feel like I may not need to get a DAC because I could use the Xonar as a DAC and maybe run the output of the Xonar to an amp, then connect the amp to the 660S? I don't even understand the different connectors and cables and how they work/sync together. Guys, I am not sure if I am making sense here, I am very confused and I really need someone to explain stuff to me in laymans terms. All I want is a powerful, amazing surround sound experience with the HD660S. I just don't know how to get there. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I am open to discussion. Try not to flame me, I think it's clear that I don't know what I am doing so I am trying to reach out.
