  1. Yes I know, I am thinking about an adapter in fact
  2. Doing the simple math, if gen4 speed id double the gen 3 speed, and nvme SSDs use 4x slots, shouldn't it be possible to have an expansion card that adapts 4 gen 4 lanes in to 8 gen 3 lanes? I'm thinking about upgrading to a second hand cpu and there are some good prices on some i7 10700k but I don't want to be cut out of features too soon, planning to keep the cpu for at least 5 years. Maybe things like direct storage for games will make use of gen 4 SSDs for example and if it is just about storage speed this could allow better performance.
  3. Not much. Before using malwarebytes I had a windows process (can't remember which) taking like 20% or more cpu at idle, probably a malware, but that is gone now
  4. Hi everyone, I am currently on a pc with 12 gb of ram, an i7 6700 and a gtx 1070. Lately, I recently tried playing battlefield 5 again (before I used an I5 7400 and rx 480 and it was ok), and noticed the cpu goes to 100% and this causes the game to be unplayable. Moreover, I started noticing heavy occasional stuttering in fairly light duty games as league of legends (I play with fps capped to 67 hz cause my monitor overclocked only supports that, unexperience buyer problem of the 4 years younger me I know). I am not able to monitor performance if not by looking at metrics in real time, and it is quite hard to spot problems doing so. I'm sure that in BF5 this does not depend on the graphical settings because even at low 720p the cpu goes to 100%. Some more information: -recently I used malwarebytes and removed some malicious keys or something like that, not much has changed anyway -I have my CPU undervolted with an offset of -165mv form intel xtu, It has proven to be stable over the years, and resetting it does not seem to solve the problem -I have never repasted the gpu, but the clocks and temperatures seems fine, I have tried to undervolt it too but Nvidia undervolting is a mess, and every time msi afterburner was randomly changing the voltage/freq curve as it liked, hated it and restored to default. -I use a beta version of the gpu software, GPU Tweak III (asus). I use the beta for the 3 because the last version (GPU Tweak II) was causing programs to crash randomly (started to do so after like 2 years of use, who knows why) probably when they were 32 bit, or when they had a 32 bit version too, didn't really understand but found it was the problem on internet when my pc started to randomly closing programs. -Lately, to check if I could install w11 I tried to activate secure boot and firmware tpm 2.0, but if I remember right It was after I discovered the performance degradation. -Probably, I have VBS activated, but I'm not able to verify that. A voice that I recognized to be Virtual based security in msinfo32 said "running" or something similar (the pc is in italian and often translations are not accurate enough imo) -Last thing I did, was activating Intel speed shift from the bios, and may be placebo, but the pc feels snappier in everyday use (I did not get if this tech comes with higher consumption too or if it also saves power) Do you know if something I listed could be the cause of my performance problems, or could it be something else? Does a troubleshooting routine exist to spot problems in this case? Thank you for your help
  5. Hi everyone, I am loking for some software solution to auto control screen brightness through the webcam (I do not have a light sensor in my monitor and would prefer not to buy an external one). I looked around and found this Clight on github GitHub - FedeDP/Clight: A C daemon that turns your webcam into a light sensor. It will adjust screen backlight based on ambient brightness. It seems one of the only options, but I am not a programmer and not really confident with code, and I am not able to understand how to use the program and if it is compatible. I am currently on windows 10, and I see that in the code there is written archlinux. This makes me think it is a linux only app, but hope never dies, and maybe there is a workaround with the windows subsystem for linux? Also an alternative using something like python would be a nice project to work on for me. (I know python basics but usually work on R for statistical reasons, I know R is more similar to C probably). Let me know if you have any suggestion.
  6. Why do you think so? I know in gaming zen 2 vs intel 10th gen, intel was winning a bit, but not by a noticeable margin in my case (the 1070 is not that powerful nowadays). Anyway I recently also saw some good offers on used 10th gen i7s could it be a good option in your opinion?
  7. Ty, about a psu, I saw reviews before buying and it is a reliable platform, well known. Just the brand is not as famous, but I trust it so I'll keep it until I need higher Wattage
  8. Ty, for now the 5800x is out of budget, but it will be an option used in 2 years if it will make sense compared to the new stuff obviously. With the case I'm ok I added more fans already and the temperatures are very good. What do you think about the performance in gaming of the 3700x and 5600x? Does it make sense to you that I would be mostly gpu constrained even with the 3060ti for my usecases, and even in the lightest esport titles I won't benefit from the 100 fps more the 5600x can offer if I only have a 144hz monitor?
  9. I have my pc from 2017, and It was my first build. At the time I had some budget constrain and I was not very expert, so the build was a bit unrefined, but in the end performance was balanced. It was an i5 7400 paired with an rx 480 4gb. After 2 years I started upgrading things. Bought a fan controller (my mobo had just one fan header), a good cpu cooler (bequiet darkrock 4), a better psu (sharkoon silentstorm cool zero 650w) and finally sold my cpu and gpu and upgraded to an i7 6700 (previous gen but definitely benefitted from the more threads) and gtx 1070. this upgrade costed me less than 200 euros, and I'm quite satisfied with it, but I think this is a good time to start upgrading again, since I won't be able to pay the big early adopters price of ddr5 and the new platforms. My plan is to upgrade everything: CPU, GPU and Monitor. As monitor I would like a good 144hz 2K display (maybe also ultrawide? that would be my dream). For the gtx 1070 I decided to keep it a bit longer, since the prices now are a mess, and maybe wait for the used market to start selling some 30 series RTX, like a 3060/ti. So I decided to start upgrading from the CPU. The bad thing is that to upgrade CPU, since the best I can get on the same platform is the i7 7700k and it is not a good investment now, I would have to change everithing, event the RAM that is a frankenstein 12gb of ddr4 2400mhz, not enough for a modern cpu. The products I was considering were a good b550 board, solid 16gb of 3600mhz ram, and as CPU my choices are the r7 3700x and r5 5600x. I mostly study with my pc, do some R programming for statistics and very very casually photo and video editing, but the most intensive task is for sure gaming. The games I play are some esport titles, but not so competitively that I need 300fps, I'm not a proplayer, and mainly AAA titles, with ultra graphics and story driven gameplay, that games that now I enjoy on my trash 1080p 60hz monitor and I would like to enjoy with the new monitor at 100ish fps (always considering I'm keeping the 1070 for now, hoping in FSR ;)thanks amd). Now since The 5600x is now found around 289€, and the 3700x is new at 259€, and I think even upgrading to the 3060/ti I would be mostly gpu constrained, would you think that it will make sense to spend a bit less on maybe an used 3700x for even less than the 259€ amazon sells it new, and gain something in productivity and multitasking ability (I usually have a lot going on in the background while gaming I don't like the idea that I have to close things to game), and maybe in 2 years see the situation and if the new will be too pricy upgrade to a ryzen 5000 then, or do you think is better to take a 5600x because the hit on gaming performance would be more than I think, but reduce my upgrade path to changing everything again in 3/4 years to the new platforms of the future if they are good? Also waiting end of the year to see how prices change when intel and AMD show the next gen is an option, but I would like to know your opinion on the performance anyway. Am I wrong to think that I will gain more overhead with the 3700x if games starts to leverage more cores, even if now I would loose some FPS to the 5600x, and if this doesn't happen, I will just be more and more GPU constrained until I upgrade everything again in many years? so I think I won't really notice the difference in game, but I will definitely be safer in terms of longevity with the 3700x don't you think?
  10. I have a strange artifact appearing randomly. You can see it in the link https://youtu.be/riWQYnLuVQ8. At the moment I know the following about it: -it appears randomly also on desktop -it is triggered by nier automata, sometimes in full screen, sometimes windowed -it only happens when the image on screen is rendered by my gtx 1070, not when it is by the integrated intel hd530 -it disappear if I disable the 1070 from device manager -It is present with all the nvidia drivers I tried -whithout drivers installed it does not appear -usually restarting fixes it -if I use win+ctrl+shift+b it sometimes disappear and others not -It is present with both the original vbios and the updated vbios -it does not change if I use a different cable, hdmi port or monitor. Please help me understand it is driving me crazy.
  11. when I press this combination should I see something happen or it just does it in the background?
  12. yes it moves I wasn't thinking about dead pixels in fact. The monitor is at stock refresh now. My sistem has a gtx 1070 asus dual oc, and an i7 6700. since the previous gpu was an AMD rx 480, could it be that I have some driver or component left after uninstalling AMD driver that is cousing problems with Nvidia ones?
