  1. I am looking to create a basic RAID 1 array on my friends pc for storing clips and videos from our gaming group. Currently he has all of this data on an aging 2tb HDD, and I know its only a matter of time before it dies. This would preferably be pretty much maintenance free after the initial setup. My initial idea was to use software RAID through windows storage spaces and add in a single 4tb HDD for a future capacity upgrade, but I cant seem to find any information on whether or not windows will allow you to create an array with different drive sizes through the storages spaces tool. Also he is planning an upgrade in the next 6 months-1 year, is it going to be an issue trying to remake the array with the same drives on a different system and going from win 10 to 11?
  2. thats what i suspected, which means that i really do seem to need more pcie lanes than i can find in consumer chips.
  3. if i use a cpu/mobo with pcie gen 5, such as ryzen 7000, can i still take advantage of the increased bandwidth when sharing lanes between older cards (gen 3/gen 4). if i have the 3080ti (or any future gpus) in the server using 16 lanes will the remaining 8 lanes end up locked at the slower speeds when sharing the lanes between the remaining 3 cards, or can i take full advantage of the increased bandwidth even if the cards are not actually capable of running at gen 5 speeds? if the shared lanes are going to end up being locked to the slower gen 3 speeds thats not a great solution as my 10gig fiber card would still be limited by pcie bandwidth (which is part of the reason im upgrading from the 6850k which only supports pcie gen 3) only now its also sharing that limited bandwidth with the sound card and the raid card, slowing things down even further.
  4. I am looking more for new hardware, shame that threadripper isn't around anymore (not counting threadripper pro)
  5. Gpu, RAID card, sound card, and fiber optic network card.
  6. I would like to spend less than $750 on the cpu. I found the Intel xeon 4410t for around $650 but I am struggling to find anything that is comparable. Is the prosumer market really this dead?
  7. Looking for a cpu upgrade for my home server that has more than the standard 20 pcie lanes that even high end consumer chips are limited to now. My current CPU is an i7 6850k with 40 pcie lanes so I'm looking for around that many. This server is also used for some gaming so single threaded performance is also important. Are there any good options that won't cost an insane amount? New components are preferred
  8. i have no intention of gaming using bluetooth, I am well aware of how bad windows implementation of it is, but i do need it for connecting to my other devices (phone, laptop, etc.) where a cable is impractical and whatever 2.4ghz wireless dongle they use wont work.
  9. Looking for a pair of bluetooth headphones to replace my steelseries arctis 3. I liked the retractable microphone, the digital 7.1 surround sound, and the ability to plug them in to my computer using the 3.5mm, but the elastic headband would inevitably stretch until they were uncomfortable to wear. Any recommendations for a replacement around $100? I would be willing to forgo a built in microphone and get a simple USB mic since I only really need it for discord.
  10. 5800x3d is great but i really dont want to pay what those are going for right now, guess im just going to have to wait.
  11. recently upgraded to a 3080 and a 1440p 165hz monitor to go with it and i am seeing weird behavior. In some games my 3600x will have only 1 or 2 threads nearly maxed out with the gpu sitting at around 50% and i will still hit 165fps without issue. other games will have 6 threads at 50-60% utilization with the gpu still at around 50% and i cant get more than 110-130fps ever with frequent drops down below 100fps, even with the 3600x overclocked to 4.3ghz all core. would an upgrade to something like a 5800x fix this or is 165hz out of reach without the much more expensive upgrade of hopping over to the newest platforms?
  12. Gigabyte power supply. Custom cables companies seem to make cables for basically every big brand except gigabyte
  13. Tried to get custom cables a while ago, couldn't find any for my power supply, contacted the manufacturer and they ghosted me, tried to find the cables or another of the same model of power supply used and the only one that turned up wouldn't ship to my country. Even if I could replace the cable I wouldn't trust my PSU to not have the over current protection tripped by the 3080 since it was made a few years before the 3000 series came out.
  14. Thought as much, time for a new PSU anyways
  15. I just picked up a evga 3080 ftw3 ultra and realized I made an error. When I built my PC I accidentally threw out my second pcie power cable so I only have 2 8 pin connectors and the card has 3. Could I run the card on 2 connectors temporarily if I turn down the power limit in msi afterburner?
