  1. "rant on" ok comcast support is useless at night i tried to get them to release and renew my ip address to get a new external ip address for my modem which tech support has no clue and was telling me to run ipconfig on my computer to renew my address but from my understanding that is to renew my computers internal lan address i also tried to release and renew from modems page itself but wouldnt grab a new ip address from comcast. if anyone knows how to force comcast to release a modems ip address and give it a new one without having to talk to tech support 2000 miles away please post in here how to do that. i miss the old days of local isps where you could call them and actually talk to a human being that was a tech and had half a clue what they were talking about without having to look up articles themselves "rant off"
  2. sorry i had to figure out snipping tool i dont take screen shots to often. if you need more please let me know the blacked out is my external ip also the 193.128.42.96.0 is not what i have for my networks internal ip
  3. hello i have a netgear c7000v2 combo moden/router. i have been having random restarts on my modem for the last couple days but i have crappy internet to begin with so am used to random outages. yesterday and today they have been getting worse so i logged into my router to look at the logs and i have logs that say dos attack tcp or udp which for the target its my ip address but source says 75.75.75.75 and the port which looks to be from inside my network if i am looking at things right. So my question is that comming from a computer inside my network? i also have many dos attacks that seemed to come from many different outside ip addresses also those were dos attacks "sloopy and some other" but my log has been rolled over and cant find those entries anymore since this morning so im not positve what type they were just that it said dos attack in my router logs. i also seen some remote log in messages which i didnt understand so i changed my router password but still keep getting the internal looking attack and the ones that have external source ip addresses im sorry if this is confusing to understand but im not very tech savy with internet protocols just know some basics. if the source 75.75.75.75 port # are internal im pretty sure its my sons computer but with school being on line now id rather not have to do a fresh install of windows if its not comming from within my network and all i need to do is call my internet provider and have them change my ip address or something like that thank you in advance and again sorry if this is confusing to understand any help is much appreciated
  4. sorry have been away everything is updated its actually a fresh install and i downloaded all drivers but sadly i cannot use the lastest bios since i can not boot with xmp enabled with bios c and d versions im currently running b version from msi and they havent gotten back to me as why i cannot use xmp or manual settings for any bios version over there b version would disabling write caching or setting quick eject be a way to solve the improper ejecting of hard drives and ssds? the hard drives are using latest firmware ill have to check the ssds tonight though
  5. i bought a star tec hot swap bay and enabled e sata on my motherboard to make moving files and backing up easier and faster. the hot-swap bay is just pass thru no back plane. my problem is when i eject disk (hard drives or ssd) i sometimes get disk errors when i put them in my other computer and it runs scan disk (i havent noticed it actually find errors during scan disk). i have tried different sata ports, different sata cables ran a sole sata power cable from the psu even bought another hot swap bay in case it was the pass thru connector. is there some other setting i need to set for the hard drives and ssd for them to eject properly in windows? again it doenst happen every time so im a bit confused whats going on and it doesnt actually seem to find any errors during scan disk running. or am i possible just sol and my motherboard just doesnt like e-sata (i had 2 sabertooth 990fx motherboards and one of them was that way with the rear e sata ports) msi x470 gaming m7 ac seagate barracuda pro drives multiple brands of ssd star tec tray less hot swap sata moble rack win 10
  6. also should i put the 2x8g both on dimm a and the 2x4 on dimm b or put it 8x4 and 8x4 either way it shows 24g weirdly and allows xmp in either configuration
  7. im taking parts from two almost identical old computers and learning how to set up a home server my question is i have two sets of gskill sniper ddr3 1866 ram modules but one set is 2X8 and one is 2x4 same timings. it registers 24g when i install them but is there a dis advantage to running two different size ram modules? the motherboard is a sabertooth 990fx rev1 and a fx8350. right now im just messing with a windows plex server but if i swap to unraid or freenas will that be a problem with mis matched modules? thank you for any help in advance.
  8. Thank you i do have the port its hooked up to set to hot swap enabled another question is the hard drive supposed to spin down after you eject it with windows when i put a hard drive in they dont power down completely after ejecting with windows like it does when its hooked up to the usb dock i have? sorry for all the newb questions but there really isnt much info anywhere that doesnt conflict with someone else when looking this stuff up
  9. i recently bought a hot-swap bay for easier backups and such. do i need to disable write caching for hard disks or are there other permission that need to be set when using the hot swap feature of my motherboard. its an msi x470 gaming M7 AC. using the bay for ssds i haven't had any problems at all but tonight i put in a couple hard drives into it for the first time and my computer would take forever to read the disk and also wouldn't let me eject the disks. thought i had another 8tb seagate barracuda pro (seriously regret buying them for backups) go bad but when i put it in my usb dock it was fine and didn't take forever to access the hard-drive or eject it. thank you in advance
  10. thanks for your advice one other question im kinda clueless when it comes to overclocking ram what are safe voltages for ddr4 daily usage
  11. So my question is i have gskill F4-3200C14D-16GTZRX i used on a 2700x but bought a 3700x so my son could use the 2700x to build his first computer. would i be better off keeping my old ram for the 3700x or getting some 3600 Mhz ram with slower timings and letting him have the gskill 3200. I did notice on ryzen calculator after setting timings and running the short memtests included it took acouple seconds longer then when the 2700x was installed. but im pretty sure thats is the bios im running bios Update AMD ComboPI1.0.0.3ab which is 3 versions old because i couldnt even run docp profiles with new versions thank you for any advice motherboard is a Msi x470 Gaming M7 AC
  12. nvm enabling gsync in the contol panels fixed it. didnt realize gsync fucntioned on the desktop
  13. I recently had to reinstall windows because a few older games wouldnt launch and reinstalling xna, directx and vcredist didnt help. i had recently upgraded to a 3700x and 2070 super but before i reinstalled windows the 2070 would go to idle clocks of 400ish Mhz. Now after doing a clean install they Wont drop below 1200 Mhz gpu and 7000Mhz ram. It is a dual monitor setup and was before i upgraded so basically what im asking is that normal and it was dropping to lower idles then it was supposed to? It would sit around 35c at the desktop before but now sits at 48-50c and so the fan keeps kicking on and is quite annoying and yes latest drivers for everything. temps and clocks are normal in games also specs msi x470 gaming M7 ac 3700x gskill tridentz 3200 cl14 MSI gaming x 2070 super 970 evo 500gb 860 evo 1TB
