  1. Ever since I had to disassemble the screen I never felt that those pins were locking into place. I can feel and see those "bumped" but I'm not sure if they're even locking into place each time. Why can't we have a more reliable lock like for example the locking mechanism for the camera ribbon on the Raspberry Pi ?
  2. To be fair, if we're speaking only about the physical aspect then it's perfect for me. I don't even have to worry with overheating. I'm focused on the flaws of the eletronics.
  3. Hi, A few months ago I posted a thread (visibly not in the laptop section, but whatever), ranting about my Asus ROG G750JM. I was and I am still angry about this laptop. Today I'm convinced that this laptop is designed to be defective. Specs are: Intel i7 4700HQ; NVidia 860m; 16GB RAM; 1TB Hitachi Travelstar 7K1000; Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bits. What are the problems? First of all, I will occasionnaly BSoD if I'm not running the OEM NVidia driver 347.52. That means I can't use the shiny new drivers or even a drivers with ShadowPlay in GeForce Experience. That would make me BSoD at startup. My second issue is that every single hard drive I have inserted into the second bay were damaged over time. The first drive lasted 6 months, the second and the third less than two months. They were the same brand and model as the one that came in the first bay: Hitachi Travelstar 7K1000 1TB. I'm now running a new one on a USB3 dock. My third issues is that the screen's internal cable will detach itself. Sometimes I'll have to disassemble the screen every few days and tape it back correctly. There is no locking mechanism besides sticky tape! Trying to solve problems I have exchanged several emails with Asus' support team. Every single time I link a video, a crashdump, a log file, kernel messages or even mentionned what I tried to diagnose the issues I was ignored. Always offered to RMA the computer without promising to repair it once and for all. The RMA team like to make me remember that they might have to make me pay for the damages if they judged I was the one who caused them. The "threat" of getting a quote or billed didn't help the fact that it's the only computer I own currently, and that I actually need it since I'm a student in computer science. I documented every single use cases I could and even tried getting the most out of crash dumps for the BSoD and Kernel messages for when the hard drive in the second bay would fail. For the screen I just needed to use my eyes to witness flickering on certain colors, and sometimes, the whole screen going blank or showing lines. I had high expectations of the French Asus support team. I was shocked when I learned that they go through a third party repair shop. I even voiced my concern when I had to RMA it a second time. I was not being told that the warranty of replaced part was only worth 3 months the first time I had to go through the RMA process. Is this another rant? Somewhat yeah. I'm ranting. I'm angry. But I'm actually trying to find out if I'm the only one pissed about this laptop and I'm looking for people willing to share their own experiences about this. There's nothing we can do. And I'm not counting on this thread going viral or anything. Please share your experiences. Thanks.
  4. In France, Asus doesn't do the repairs themselves. Even if I paid them it would be one of their partners repairing it and there's no way of telling if I would not have any issues after that (especially if the warranty only covers 3 months again).
  5. Hi. I own an Asus ROG G750JM (860m, i7 4700HQ, 16GB RAM, Windows 8.1) and I'm having issues. I bought it on the 4th of July 2014 and had only one year of warranty on it. I RMA'd it for the following reasons: The screen flickered on certain colors; The screen had a couple of dead pixels; The screen wasn't sealed apparently, a bug managed to crawl in; The second SATA bay had dstroyed already two hard drives (Hitachi Travelstar 7K1000 1TB, same as the hard drive shipped with the laptop), the first lasted 6 months and the second only one; It would have 9 chances out of 10 to BSoD if ShadowPlay and GeForce experience were running at boot. When I got it back, the screen, motherboard and GPU were replaced. And they failed to mention that I had 3 months of warranty on the replaced parts. Asus wasn't the one who repaired it, instead they used some computer shop on the otherside of the country. But there were more issues... When I received the laptop, I booted it up and saw that the new screen was already ruined like if someone put something heavy on the screen. After trying out a third hard drive for my second SATA bay I hoped that it would last but it died again in less than two months again. At this point I was furious because the first hard drive was the same and was alright, while the second wouldn't report S.M.A.R.T. errors correctly (except for the last one). The screen also didn't seem correctly connected since I had to adjust if a couple of times before getting an image (see first picture attached) and would have some severe burn in (second picture attached). I sent it back right after learning that my 3 months of warranty on the replaced parts was ending in just a few days. This time only the screen was replaced. Right now the screen flickers on certain colors, and I must adjust the angle like if the internals were not connected correctly. I really like the way this computer looked, it felt like it was tough and could be used like any other laptop. I like the keyboard since it's not bloated with useless ROG keys, or Big Picture keys. But I'm not sure what to do now, I can't really send it back again because they would just replace the screen (maybe) and I would be going for a least a full week without being able to work. About what I do with this computer, just for context, I'm a student in computer science and that means: I write software; I use Virtual Machines (several of them at the same time often); I game, and use game SDKs (Unreal, Unity 3D); I watch videos; I read stuff; And more importantly than all of that, I take my computer wherever I need to with the ROG backpack (not cheap at all, but great to fit in my stuff in). Right now I'm running the 4th hard drive I got in a USB3 dock so I can have a bit more storage (since I need it with all those VMs, games, and videos). I put to sleep my computer whenever I need to move it around or go to school so I don't have to spend time booting, opening my apps, going back where I was (Visual Studio is so slow) and mainly because sometimes I will just move for a few minutes and it's not worth shutting it down totally. This post is not about making Asus look bad, it's about my experience and what I'm living with what I hoped would be the ultimate laptop experience. I really do like the idea of this laptop, then way it looks and all but it doesn't feel like it's build like it should be. To the G750 users, please tell me about your experience with your laptop. Are you happy ? Does it meet your needs ? To the other gaming laptop users, what do you have and what do you do with it ? Has it ever failed on you ? Thanks for reading.
  6. Hi, Since yesterday I started getting some frames dropped on video playback on Firefox, thinking it was only flash acting up I brushed it off but today I watched a video with the Media Player Classic from CCCP and I saw that my framerate was acting up (going between 23 and 25 while the video is 24 every few seconds) following by like a audio glitch like if it skipped audio to resync with the video. The video was always synched with the audio. Nothing has changed during this week as in: no updates were installed, no new programs were installed, nothing was removed. I tried playing a couple of video to be sure it wasn't just the video and using other headphones and the laptop's speakers but the audio glitch was still there. Even after rebooting and having nothing else opened than Media Player Classic. My video filter is set to use Intel Quicksync right now. The thing is that it does it with Flash on YouTube and also with audio files. I'm running Windows 8.1 64bits on a Asus ROG G750JM (16GB, i7 4700HQ, 860m). Thanks.
  7. Hi, Whevener I'm interested in some hardware I'm always curious about the drivers or the software that I'm going to have to use with the hardware. The issue I have about current hardware reviews is that it's just about the hardware and sometimes about what you can do with the LEDs. But hardware is not just about shining rainbow pieces of eletronic, it's also about the software and the way it performs. I think that the software bundled with hardware such as a keyboard, a mouse, a sound card or even an ethernet card as important as the hardware itself. And while I understand that I can't use the software without the proper hardware, it's a shame to not be able to test it before making decisions. Some other reason I think it's important to show people the software is that some haven't had a chance to upgrade to a Killer NIC and are curious about the settings that can be set, or it would be nice to get a feel with a sound card driver to see and even explain the different settings. I know it will be time consuming to review or showcase the software, but I doubt people just get the hardware and don't even install the software for fullest experience possible. Obviously I'm not talking about bloatware and promotional software that comes with a motherboard. Just to explain a bit better here are the questions I ask myself when deciding what is important in the software whever I buy a mouse: Can I program as many game profiles I want in the software ? Can I rebind every button and the mouse wheel's axis ? Can I have a special DPI profile for the game ? Do profiles work outside of games ? Can I assign multiple games to one single profile ?Can I have changing colors for different profiles or DPI ? Can I do macros ? If so can I write timed macros ? Can I record on the fly ? Can I change the report rate ? Can I disable mouse accel within the mouse software ? How easy is it to create a profile ? I'm not asking for a software review for each and single piece of hardware that may have the same software, but it'd be interesting to have for stuff like the Killer Network app, some brand keyboard and mouse apps, and soundcard so people can learn about the software and its features before buying hardware. Thanks for reading.
  8. I appreciate the serious answers. It's an Asus ROG G750JM-T4051H and apparently they are not doing this model with the i7 and 16GB or RAM anymore so I can't just exchange it. The lower model has just an i5 and 8GB of RAM while the higher model has a 880m instead of a 860m, but if I had the money to go for the 880m model I would've done it already. Right now I'm mad, because they can't even exchange it with the same model.
  9. After removing the 4 screws on each side the frame doesn't pop off, it's actually really hard to remove and I may damage it.
  10. Hi, So I just got my Asus G750JM last week and today I had a live bug crawling behind my panel, I know it's not on the screen because I tried wiping it gently and putting my mouse over it. I'm pretty sure it's not covered by the warranty and to be honest I'd like to not go through the hassle of finding out by sending it back and waiting for it to come back. The laptop usual is on a desk, I had once moved it to watch a movie near the window and it might have crawled in from there. Here is what it looks like. I couldn't find a teardown on ifixit, and I can't find out how to remove the screen from the laptop to inspect it and possibly blow the bug with dry air. Also I'd like to know what sort of glue I could use to put back the rubber things on each side of the screen, I'd really like to not lose them. Thanks.
  11. It seems that I must reply to mark it as my own answer. So apparently IE is usefull, open a windowed IE and right click the title bar then click "Lock the toolbars". Source: http://www.askvg.com/fix-a-new-strange-line-appears-below-ribbon-toolbar-in-windows-8-and-8-1-explorer/
  12. Hi, I have bought an Asus G750 since I'll be traveling, it's running Windows 8.1. I'd like to get rid of a gray bar that seems resizeable when I put the cursor on it but that doesn't seem to do anything, here is a screen shot on the Asus laptop and another on my desktop: As you can see the second one doesn't have that grey bar. Thanks. EDIT: So apparently IE is usefull, open a windowed IE and right click the title bar then click "Lock the toolbars". 13. Since it's a bit drive I try to keep as less unrecoverable data on it as possible, I'm not concerned a not losing it except for the cost to replace it. So there is no way to make the system ignore the bad sector ?
  14. Hi, I'm having a bad sector always located at the same place (verified with HD Tune) that just won't get repaired by Windows (8). Is there another way to fix it or to tell Windows to ignore this sector ? I'd like to not have to partition it to remove the bad sector since it's currently my boot drive. It's a Samsung 1TB, I got it a couple years ago and I won't replace it right now. Thanks.
  15. When I open the task scheduler I get a pop up telling me that the XML code contains an incorrect value, badly formatted, out of bounds or a bad node. I get this error for the following tasks: VerifiedPublisherCertStoreCheck UserTask SystemTask Consolidator Background Synchronization HiveUploadTask When I run Get-ScheduledTask in PowerShell I get this output: Get-ScheduledTask : Le code XML de la tâche contient un noud inattendu.Au caractère Ligne:1 : 1+ Get-ScheduledTask+ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~+ CategoryInfo : NotSpecified: (MSFT_ScheduledTask:Root/Microsoft...T_ScheduledTask) [Get-ScheduledTask], CimException + FullyQualifiedErrorId : HRESULT 0x80041316,Get-ScheduledTask The first line is about a not expected node in the XML code. I'm running Windows 8 Pro 64bits and I didn't get a power outage or have to hard reboot. When I look up that entries in the main window, they don't appear, for example VerifiedPublisherCertStoreCheck doesn't appear in Microsoft/Windows/AppID.
