  1. I never buy them. Buying an extended warranty is a bad bet. If you have done proper research and know you are getting a quality product the chances you will use it are almost nil. Retailers push them because they are very profitable ... for the retailer as well as whoever is actually backing up the paper. The only plus to having the extended warranty vs manufacture warranty is they usually come with a full replacement so your downtime is minimal should there be a problem.
  2. On one hand why be rude at all? On the other is it even possible to be rude to a digital assistant? Rude is a matter of perception. Perception requires emotion and self awareness. I would be more alarmed toward someone who A. Would bother to be rude toward a digital assistant B. Would be emotionally invested in A.
  3. Wait, Velcade said Bios first. That is my original plan. 1. boot to Bios and make sure it sees everything CPU,GPU,Ram, 2 Nvme drives, fans 2. update Bios from UEFI 3. repeat step 1 4. install OS 5. verify what the OS sees 6. update drivers 7. Check all devices are operational 8. back to Bios to start tweaking I had second thoughts when i was wondering if there might be issues between new Bios and old chipset drivers. Am i overthinking?
  4. Thanks for the replies, Ha, ok, so the score is 1 -1 . More voices needed and perhaps reasons why?
  5. Build day is near, Ram arrives tomorrow. Gigabyte Aorus Master/Ryzen 7 3700x. Plan is to update bios first before installing W10Pro. After looking at the driver updates i will need, especially for chipset, i am wondering if i should install the OS and do the drivers first?
  6. We have taken similar paths. Mine is the first with current gen parts. This is first time i haven't scavenged from the previous build. My final tally is in, just waiting for ram to arrive next week. My goal was $2000. CASE Phanteks Enthoo Pro M SE 98 MB Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master 330 CPU Ryzen7 3700x 300 GPU Gigabyte Aorus RTX2070 super 590 PSU CORSAIR RMx Series RM850x 130 SSD ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 2TB NVME 200 SSD ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 512GB NVME 65 RAM G.SKILL Trident Z Neo 32GB 3600 CL16 280 FAN Noctua NF-P14s x2 28 TOTAL 2021 add another 165 tax
  7. In the past month i have made some adjustments. The GPU is the most important part in terms of relevancy. I have already purchase the Gigabyte Aorus RTX 2070 super as it is, in my opinion the best card at the $600 price point (paid 585). After further review i agree PCIe 4 is not really relevant at this time. I know the tech is ever changing at an accelerated pace. the fact remains this will be only my 4th build since 2002. Over that span i have only made 2 upgrades. A gpu on my 2008 build and added an SSD to my current 2014 build. This has schedule has worked for me. Mostly because i pretty much unplug from the tech until i find a need. This time around may be different. I may look to update GPU and maybe CPU in 3 years. Will be watching prices on mobo, cpu and ram this weekend. Ive got everything else. Thanks for the input, have a great Thanksgiving.
  8. WOW! Has it really been 40 years? It just reminds me how sanitized and rigid our society has become.
  9. Thats a good cover on one of the best tunes from the late 80's. I remember falling in love with Helena Christensen when the video came out. WOW, those eyes slayed me.
  10. You're referring to the chipset fan that is on almost all of the x570 boards. Im not sure how much of a problem it is or could be. To my way of thinking it would be better if the fan is not obstructed by the GPU. Most of the complaints i have seen about the fans are noise related. That can be managed in the bios ...custom fan curves etc. The fan placement prompted me to take a close look at the MSI MEG X570 ACE but not enough to sway me from the Aorus master. My opinion is that with proper airflow it wont be a problem.
  11. The very first comment sums it up for me... you are watching Rock Legends, cover Rock Gods, in front of said Rock Gods, on a night the Rock Gods are being honored for their rock godliness, choosing the Rock Gods' most famous song. And they slayed it.
  12. x570 Tuf looks to be a solid board at the $200 price point and will work well with the Ryzen 7 3700x. Once i made the decision to go AMD i had that board on my short list until i decided to go higher end. As for GPU I am going with the RTX 2070 Super having already bought the Gigabyte Aorus. I looked at your most recent build. Your budget is close to mine except mine does not include a monitor. Looks good all in all. If you wanted to save another $100 or so you might consider the ADATA XPG SX8200 Pro 2TB M.2-2280 NVME. I got lucky in that i originally ordered the XPG SX8100 2TB NVMe M.2 2280 for $200 and ended up with the XPG SX8200 Pro for the same price because Adata had trucking issue and offered the free upgrade.
  13. I appreciate what you and Midnitewolf are saying. The new tech of the day will always be dated in a year or 2. New games are made with previous couple generations in mind. They have to or they wont have a market. I have never been a console person, well not since my kids had the Gen1,2 Nintendo. Im to damn old to start now. My system is 6 years old and it wasnt a high end build back then. It has served me well for all i have wanted up to and including Witcher 3. My newest title, Total War 3 Kingdoms, was the first time i really had some issues. It will play, not as well as i would like. Im also chomping at the bit to play RDR2. There is no upgrade path on my 6 year old system. I have the cash to build a fairly high end system now. The time is right in my case. The new rig will be fine for the next 2 - 3 years and should be good enough for at least 5. Time will tell. Waiting for what may or may not come isnt a rabbit hole i want to go down. Here is my new build plan. https://pcpartpicker.com/user/SpyderJerusalem/saved/#view=8GQrVn Will be adding a couple fans, and possibly a CPU cooler if the stock AMD cooler doesn't give me what i need. May add a PCIe gen 4 SSD at some point. I have yet to buy the Mobo, processor and ram. Tweaks are still possible.
  14. We should get some upward airflow out of the shroud. Enough to make a difference ... we shall see. Stock fans are not PWM, im going to run them full speed and see how they sound. Will grab a couple PWM fans for exhaust. I still need mobo, processor and ram. I know what im getting just waiting to see prices over the holiday weekend.
  15. Very nice. I was originally going to get the Fractal Design Meshify S2 but didn't want to give up the internal optical drive and i saw this one pop on Amazon for under $100 i grabbed it. That looks like what i had in mind for a 4 fan setup. I cant tell for sure, are both front fans above the shroud? You run all 4 at same speed? I plan to use the 2 stock fans up front. They seem like good fans. Not sure yet what i will do for the rear and top.
