If it is windows 10 it SHOULD figure itself out and get the chipset drivers working. "Should". If it isn't then you need to reinstall everything.
You will be required to reactivate windows though.Going Intel to AMD or AMD to intel is not recommended. It will work, but you could get issues and have to reinstall everything.
All I need to know is if the ssd will break. When you say reinstall everything, do you mean the drive will be wiped?

The old system has an i7 3rd gen, gt930 or something idek, motherboard unknown
The new system has a ryzen 5 1600af, gtx 1060 6gb, 500w psu, Asrock b450m pro4 motherboard

A lot of those weirdnesses you mention are hardware specific. Like, say, on macs. Without knowing the hardware it’s hard to say.
What do you mean?

Just finished my new system and I was planning on just putting my laptop ssd into the desktop. but, after doing some research, apparently there are bad things that could happen if I do so such as deactivation. The laptop's hardware is pretty old like 3rd gen processor and a gt series gpu, but the ssd I put in myself to replace the older, slower hard drive. Does anyone know how I could do a transfer if possible and would I be able to keep all games and files on my ssd when I use it on my desktop. Thanks!

That is an option. If you're going for that older chip then you could also check out motherboards for the HP Z420 workstation such as these
https://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Motherboard-Z420-FMB-1101-REV-1-0-LGA-2011-FREE-SHIPING/324082355908
https://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-618263-002-708615-001-Z420-WORKSTATION-LGA2011-MOTHERBOARD/352850867354
Just keep in mind that with these boards if you go with an ATX PSU you need a 18 to 24 Pin adapter.
Also keep in mind with the earlier platforms being DDR3 you're limited to ~1600Mhz memory populating 4 slots, so there is substantially less memory performance compared to DDR4 platforms.
Do you know if I would even be able to put my gtx 1060 in the mother boards? Right now I am looking at this one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Supermicro-X8SIA-F-Intel-Xeon-X3400-L3400-Core-i3-LGA1156-ATX-Motherboard/372618671888?epid=82123756&hash=item56c1cdb710:g:d2sAAOSw6GhcfcFo with the same core. everything else I would put in an atx case. is there any ram out there you could recommend me getting?

Keep in mind that e5-2670 v1/v2 are DDR3 so you need an X79 or C602 chipset board.
If you're going for the e5-2670 v3/v4 they are DDR4 so you need an X99 or C612 chipset board.
The motherboards don't come cheap, generally more than the processor second hand.
It'd be cheaper to get a brand new Ryzen 3600 and B450 motherboard which though it has less cores, would be better for gaming. And it supports 64GB of memory as well.
I'd get those cpus, but my budget is 200$. I've already tried putting together a cheaper verison of what you reccomend, but it won't hit a price point below 250$. The cpu I am looking to use is
and if the mother board would be too expensive, should I just get a prebuilt like this one and put the cpu in?

The description and title of this ram says a specific computer model. Can you put this ram in any other model of computer or is it just exclusive to the model that was mentioned?

I recently posted on forums that I had bought a gtx 1060 for 60 bucks and my budget for the rest of my pc is 200 bucks. Some of the replies mentioned that the
Intel Xeon E5-2670 is a great high performance cpu that can take lots of ram. I'm pretty new to this type of stuff so I have no idea what I am doing and what types of things I should be buying to support the cpu and graphics card. Another thing I am worried about is if the system that I build with these older components can run modern day games with or if there would be issues. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Is there anyway I could buy the intel xeon and put in a mother board is is more modern, or does it have to be older?

Begging is not allowed.
Look at your used market, watch r/hardwareswap on reddit. If you get 100 posts on here you can use the forum classifieds.
r/buildapcsales is a good place to find sales on hardware.
For 200 buy a used dell optiplex or something of the like.
Won't the cpu in the optiplex get bottlenecked?

I have a gtx 1060, ryzen 5 1600, 16gb ram, and need a power supply. Is 400 watts enough?

I don't know what you have in terms of videocard, case and SSD (which could in fact alter the other recommendations)
But this:
Motherboard: ASRock B450M PRO4 Micro ATX AM4 Motherboard ($74.98 @ Amazon)
Memory: *G.Skill Aegis 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory ($69.99 @ Newegg)
Power Supply: Corsair CX (2017) 550 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply ($67.98 @ Amazon)
Total: $212.95
Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available
*Lowest price parts chosen from parametric criteria
Generated by PCPartPicker 2020-02-26 13:21 EST-0500+ one of those elusive 85$ Ryzen 1600 AF CPU's would probably be the cheapest you could get anything when buying new.
If you can't find a 1600AF, a 2600 is also possible.
To go under 250 USD, you would have to cut corners somewhere. Going to 8GB of RAM will save about 35 USD, getting a second hand CPU+Mobo+RAM combo is also possible, from someone upgrading perhaps.
I am probably going to buy a powersupply for around 25$ for midweek madness which would cut 40$ giving my just enough space to fit the ryzen cpu for 85$

Don't look at individual pieces of a CPU, without looking at the full picture.
Cores are the 'brains' of a CPU. If your CPU has a lot of cores, it can do a lot of stuff at once. Some programs use a lot of cores, some only a few.
Threads are like the digital version of cores. A core has 1 thread, or 2 threads if your CPU has Intel Hyperthreading/AMD Simultaneous threading. The same logic as above follows.
Cache is something most people don't have to worry about.
What kind of tasks are you going to be doing on your PC? What is your full system budget? I could make some recommendations based upon that.
I have around 200-250$ for the motherboard, cpu, pwoersupply, and ram. the GPU, case and ssd are already bought.

Why go with 1st gen ryzen? Why not second or third gen?
It is because my budget is extremely tight

is there a difference between the Ryzen 5 1600 and Ryzen 51600 AF?

Normally don't look at specs of a cpu, look at its performance in what you want to do. What do you want your cpu to do?
I'm going to both play games, record, sometimes stream, video edit. Looking at a ryzen 5 1600

Cores and threads are your processing units. More cores, more processing units. Cache is just very fast ram. Generally, Cache is something you don't really worry about as a general consumer.
If gaming, faster cores/threads are better.
If productivity, more cores/threads.
Recommendation: Ryzen 5 3600 or i5-9400.
Ryzen 5 3600 is very good in both worlds. If you prefer Intel, i5 is pretty good too.
What's your budget and what do you plan on doing?
I was looking at the ryzen 1600 for a balance of productivity and gaming

Con someone explain what Cores/Threads/Cache do in a cpu and which ones are more important/what I should be looking ofr when buying a cpu
