  1. For clarity, I am only asking in reference to using it for my cooler - not for de-lidding a soldered CPU...
  2. Is liquid metal worth it vs something a little easier like kryonaut? The potential application is a 9900k with a 240mm AIO. I understand it is good for delidding and replacing TIM on old CPU's, but for the latest CPU's from intel with solder, is liquid metal worth using inbetween the IHS and cooler? Thanks
  3. No but very few motherboards actually have HDMI 2.0, and I don't think there are any mATX boards with it sadly
  4. I am considering upgrading to a 9th gen intel CPU that can decode 265 files - I need this to output 4K Ultra HD content to my TV. However, onboard display outs are mainly HDMI 1.4 which is capped at 4K @ 24Hz. Does anyone know whether I am able to decode files using the CPU and then output them using a dedicated graphics card to take advantage of higher bandwidth connectors?
  5. If I'm using a Kaby Lake iGPU for example, does the HDMI out on the motherboard need to be 2.0 for this use case? Because all the ones I look at are HDMI 1.4 which doesn't support full colour depth?
  6. The files are HEVC yes. So do I have two options? 1. Buy a new RTX card 2. Buy a new motherboard and CPU (an upgrade is overdue anyway so this would be preferable) I've read that the motherboard needs to have a HDMI 2.0 output for 4K HDR? I don't think there are many of those around though?
  7. A home theatre noob needs your help - I have bought a Panasonic FZ802 OLED 4K HDR TV. I have some blu ray remux files (50MB/s bitrate) that I want to play using my PC but the playback is horrible. The files play but my CPU spikes to 100% usage and stutters all over the place. But reading up on it it looks like my hardware might be too old? Or am I just bottlenecked? Specs are: Intel 3550k (3rd gen) Nvidia GTX 970 Asus Z77 Motherboard Connected to my TV using a HDMI 2.0b cable from my graphics card. My questions are: What is HDCP 2.2? What is Intel SGX? Will the RTX 20 series of cards be able to play the files with my old CPU? Or do I need a newer CPU and run off onboard graphics? I never knew it was such a minefield! How did it get like this?? Thanks
  8. I'm looking for some recommendations for high end active speakers as well as the debate between passive and active. Personally I am more a fan of active as it is a much cleaner setup and I do not own any amps/dacs etc. I don't need the flexibility or using different amps as these will be used mostly for music listening and films at home but am interested in your opinions. Two I have for my shortlist are: Acoustic Energy AE1 Active Elac AM 200 The elac's seem to be quite new as I can't find much info on them. Has anyone here tried them? Thoughts between these 2 models? Thanks
  9. The height on that looks perfect but seems excessively long? I haven't got a load of hardware so would end up wasting a lot of space. And being really picky but not a "fan" of the fan cut outs, I prefer a cleaner look personally
  10. I'm in the market for a compact mATX case and I really like cases such as the arc mini R2 and 350D but am put off by their relatively big size considering the form factor. Kind of defeats the point of mATX? The Silverstone TJ08-B is a really nice size but quite a dated case, with an awkward layout? http://www.scan.co.uk/products/silverstone-sst-tj08b-ew-usb-30-temjin-black-mini-tower-micro-atx-w-o-psu-(std-atx) Is there a case the size of the TJ08 with the design/aesthetic of a mini R2 or 350D? Any suggestions are welcome, thanks.
  11. I'll be switching from a fairly low end 1080p TN so I'm sure either will be a massive improvement. The backlight bleed is a concern for me, with dark areas in games/films etc. When you say colour accuracy, what exactly does that mean? How does this differ to contrast? How does one notice colour accuracy?
  12. To play devil's advocate, surely the better blacks/backlight bleeding are beneficial for films and the general viewing experience?
  13. Am think of going down the ultrawide route and tossing up between these 2 monitors: Samsung S34E790C VA Dell U3415W IPS The Samsung uses a VA panel which from what I've read has better contrast but inferior colour accuracy. The VA is also slightly faster as well with less backlight bleeding? I do a mixture of gaming, work, and film/TV watching so am leaning towards VA for the contrast, backlight bleeding and slightly better response times. What are your guys' thoughts on IPS vs VA? And where exactly does the colour accuracy of IPS benefit - content creators?
  14. I've checked all of the task schedule conditions and none of them have "wake the computer to run this task" selected so does that mean it isnt this? I will check the bois now. EDIT: Couldn't find any settings in the bios relating to an alarm or wake up. I know I've never changed any settings like that so don't think it is bios related?
