after all was said and done he decided to shell out a couple hundred extra dollars, went for the 3800XT as his local pc supply store had them pretty cheap compared to the online newegg price (had to buy a newer cooler tho thankfully noctua has good cheap options). thanks for the feedback glad he made good choices going ryzen -
troublshoot Friends board having OverCurrent
FlamingZebra63 replied to FlamingZebra63's topic in CPUs, Motherboards, and Memory
The thing i am censoring out has nothing at all to do with the error message and is just a reflection of his monitor. i told him to try to clean out the ports, any suggested method to do so safely and effectively? -

nothing relevant to the issue, but i can tell you in the first image, that little bit of metal is the io shield peeling away and all the dirt looking stuff is insulation between the plate and the board (or so he says) apparently the port he was worried about is the hotkey port -

well this inst about the trouble shooting tbh, the board and chipset he is running needs to be upgraded anyway, his overall gaming performance is mediocre at best and hes been planning to replace it, just now its sort of forced his hand in the matter. idk its a lot to explain but yea i can absolutely make a Xpost for it anyway side tracking.... which of the 2 configs would you personally suggest replacing with the 3700/3800X or the i5 Edit: made a troubble shooting post so that conversation can continue there -

well the motherboard and cpu hes planning on buying this week because his current board apparently had an accident... so basically its just important that spending 600$ today inst gonna bite him in the ass in 3-4 months when all the new stuff comes out... he just doesn't wanna not have a computer for 3-4 months i don't know if anyone here is a tech wizard but for some context this is why hes buying new stuff -

to answer a couple questions 1. hes got 2 8 gig sticks in his current machine that he plans to carry over and buy 2 new 8 sticks to pair with it (new sticks are Vulcan Z 3200MHz DDR4 mods) (his old sticks are also DDR4 but hes at work currently so dont know make and speed) 2. these are just parts he is replacing on his current rig, he is not worried about a cooler or power supply or the likes. 3. as for the new rizen set, hes trying to keep all costs lower on everything but the actual 3000 series card however depending on how much a full new idea costs him he would consider but as for now hes going for cheap and efficient while not going so cheap he bottle necks his card. -
These are the 2 build options he is considering, he plans on getting it in September with the launch of the 3080 and 3070 cards, and needs to know A: is this gonna be enough of a system to not bottle neck the card and B: would swapping the amd 3700X to a 3800X beat out the i5-10600K for the extra cost Edit: i should add this is a gaming specific rig with little to no workload plans, streaming is possible yet not explicitly planed

how do I move my "program x86 folder"? I have this going on... so whenever I download an app.. say a large game for example because it goes into "program files" I cant download it, the small drive has not enough space.

when I move my desktop it disappeared from both my C and D drives.
