  1. There are people sharing it. I found my solution in this video: I don't think the issue is so much people not sharing, but actually 2 separate issues: 1) To fix a problem, you first need to understand it and ask the correct question. At first I did not know more than the bios message that no boot drive was found followed by an error code. That still give a whole range of what the problem really is and what the appropiate solution is, meaning you still have not pinpointed the underlying issue yet. That requires trial and error. I went from the error code, to windows usb repair, to command prompt (and finding out the /fixboot command did not work for me), to googling how to fix the fixboot (which I think the above solution is a workaround actually). 2) This is such a specific problem, which probably has only happened to a few thousand people in the world. Usually 0.1% of the people bothered to share the solution is good enough for everybody else, but if your starting population is already so small, it'll be more difficult to find the solution. My solution will probably not be your solution. Again these are highly specific issues, so I can only give a message of encouragement. Just don't give up. Ask yourself "am I asking the correct question?" "did I interpret the issue correctly?" etc. I also wasn't a big fan of windows 10 a couple of years ago. One of the updates just messed up a windows installation completely (the infamous may 2018 update), which should never have happened. However, since then microsoft has made massive improvements on that front. It is their best system hands down. And the fact you can just swap the OS drive to a different system and get that working perfectly fine is such a QoL improvement.
  2. Yeah, I screwed that one up. I was luckily able to undo the damage. Ultimately, I was able to have a windows recovery usb rebuild the master boot records. So my buddy now has what was promised.
  3. An update on this: I assumed the ssd had a copy of the hdd. However, I found out this wasn't the case as it unexplicably cloned the wrong drive. Luckily, I was able after pulling an all nighter (and still going) to get the os on the hdd back to working. I recovered all of the data, but had to do literally hours to find the solution to rebuild the mtr. It is an experience I never want to go through again, although knowing now what the solution is, I will never again have to in a similar situation. I am now trying to clone again, this time with software that has a better reputation. I am tired, angry, but also thrilled I perservered.
  4. No you can't. I did buy the license, so that unlocked that feature. Fingers crossed it can recover everything. I did make a backup in the meanwhile.
  5. It involves emails, settings, numerous programs he has a license to,... . I would like to do that only as a last resort. I am trying to recover the partitions through easeUS partition. I had to buy a license.
  6. So that is not a solution. The hdd's data is not accessible. The data that was cloned to the ssd is accessible. If I whipe that, I will whipe my friends data. I am sorry, but there has to be a different solution.
  7. Will this whipe data or settings? Because I absolutely want to avoid that.
  8. I am having a difficult time with an otherwise straightforward task. So here is the deal: a buddy of mine wants his hdd from his laptop replaced with ssd. I said sure, I did it in the past. So I cloned the os disk with minipartition. The drive is not recognized as boot drive. The data is certainly on the disk if I plug it in a different pc. However, after troubleshooting and the original hdd disk not being recognized, I accidently set that drive to master boot record and now the files are not being shown anymore on the drive. I am a bit desparate. Can I undo what I did with the original hdd os disk? And if not, can I do something with the ssd disk to make it actually be bootable as os disk, as a fill fletch clone?
  9. To answer my own question: it did not luckily!
  10. Hello, I am helpong out a friend with his laptop. His hdd is showing some issues and we decided it is best to clone the content of it over to a new ssd. Now I did this a few times in the past, so I normally know what I am doing. I removed the hdd, hooked up both the ssd and hdd to my pc so I can do the cloning. However, something I did not foresee was that the hdd from the laptop suddenly acted up like my boot drive... . Of course since windows 10 is easy going with this, it just booted up right into it. Is this is going to be a concern if I place either the hdd or the ssd, once cloned, back into the laptop? I am a little bit scared the drivers will be an issue.
  11. Hello, Not my usual post around here, but I wanted to bring attention to this as a good buddy of mine is Australian. He has been deeply troubled by what is happening in his home country. I am not going to pretend that I fully grasp the situation, so it's best I quote him directly. If you want, please make a donation. The service(s) you are donating to are verified and we know for sure the money will be directly used to fighting the fires, or helping those who are affected by it. Thank you. A message to all members, The Californian Bushfires Total Size: 1,900,000 acres The Amazon Fires Total Size: 2,250,000 acres The CURRENT Australian Bushfires 12,000,000 acres... and rising every day I do not think that people understand what is happening right now. These are not normal Australian bushfires. The entire country is on fire. Most people have no conceptual understanding about just how big Australia is... and therefore, just how bad these fires are. They also just cannot fathom how terrifying and unstoppable a real bushfire is... Have you ever heard of, let alone seen, a fire tornado rip through nature? Being an Aerodynamicist, and therefore having a knowledge of how air (oxygen for the fire) moves and how heat causes it to, means that I have some understanding of how these fires flare up fast enough, that you cannot our-drive them, let alone out-run them, simply when the wind blows... which they generate for themselves by the extreme temperatures they scorch the ground and air with (see the video I linked below to see what I mean). The fact that only 15 people are dead is astonishingly low, but the half a billion (yes, with a "b") animals are dead, should give you some perspective. We have the worst air quality in the world now. Our Prime Minister has left the country, its wildlife, and nature to burn. He ignored the warnings of potential catastrophic fires, and his response to societies call to action, was to cut funding to the fire services by 70%, crippling the fire services across the nation. Fire-fighters have flown in from around the globe, to help us in this time of crisis. So, not only are our incredibly brave fire-fighters under resourced, but they are also fighting fires that the world has never seen before, dwarfing even the great Californian and Amazonian fires of the past. I live in Europe now, and so my ability to help my fellow Australians is limitted, however, I do have a reasonable amount of reach within this site, and in my friendship circles. I have linked the NSW Rural Fire Service website, who are trying to fight this on the front lines of the hardest hit areas, and need all the support they can get. https://www.rfs.nsw.gov.au/about-us/fundraising Secondly, to the Australian Red Cross. They are supporting people at evacuation centres by providing psychological support, first aid, emergency assistance (cash grants to people who have lost homes), supporting volunteers, and more. https://www.redcross.org.au/ And finally, to the World Wilflife Fund. They are housing and supporting injured animals from the bushfires aswell as rescuing others that are still in harms way. They will also be making an effort to rebuild the habitats and re-populate the species killed in these fires. https://www.wwf.org.au/get-involved/bushfire-emergency Any support that you may be willing to offer, is not only very much appreciated, but desperately needed. My sunburnt country... my... home... is burning to the ground, in an inferno... and we are absolutely powerless to stop it...
  12. Not a problem, and you are not the only one. I just want to avoid misconceptions. For the record, I have this build for like half a year now and this was the first time I ran into this issue. Normally the pc only gets booted in a "cool" (room temperature) state, and from the few times I had to reboot due whatever reason I never had this. I also don't think I will run often into this as I suspect it is a consequence of 'writing' (it clears the blocks compared to a hdd marking the block for writing over it) a lot of sectors in a short amount of time. However, I also feel this shows the heat dissipation of the ssd is very poor. So would a thermal pad between the ssd and the sidepanel help in this regard?
  13. Same answer: it is not the rgb version here. It has no leds.
  14. It is not. I got a little bit confused due 'nick name' asking me this and I didn't know Kingston actually build one with RGB. So this is NOT the rgb version! It is the hyperx savage ssd:
  15. While i can't exclude It fully, I have to doubt this: -I did the first reboot roughly an hour after I completed clearing up storage -booting became progressively slower between reboots, which followed rather closely on another (try solution, reboot, try solution, reboot, etc) -It went back to normal after a 10minute cooldown. My impression, and this could be wrong, is that it is an overheating issue. Again, I could be wrong. It might be the slc cache, but I don't see causality.
  16. No, it is the hyperx ssd on the bottom right. Edit: sorry I did not understand your question at first. Answer is still no; it's the hyperx savage version, which does not have the leds.
  17. Hello there, Today I was doing a bit of software maintenance on my pc and decided to move a lot of files and programs from my otherwise crowded SSD to my larger HDD, freeing up around 80GB on the SSD, out of 223GB in total. Afterwards, I decided to do a timing on total boot time. I did know it was below 30s, but I wanted an exact time. What happened was something else though: the PC went just fine through the POST screen as usual, but it took an awful lot of time to get through the windows boot screen, like 4 minutes. It wasn't like it froze up, the wheel just kept spinning. After a few boot and shutdown cycles, it slowed down further to the point that windows had difficulties loading up things like the taskbar. I tried to do some research on google, but nothing really matched my situation. I tried stuff like changing the pagefile and stuff, maybe that was somehow now an issue since I went from literally having 2GB of space to around 80-90GB. But that did nothing. Then I shut down the pc, let it cool off for 10 minutes and rebooted. Boot time was back to normal, a solid 26 seconds. I was wondering why this happened. Most of the parts are well ventilated, The CPU is sitting at around 25°C at idle, the GPU at 34°C. Pretty much all the components at the front of the motherboard have excellent temperatures. Then it occured to me that the boot ssd sits at the rear of the motherboard (attached to those mounts specifically made in the case). Now at that place there's no ventilation happening at all, and airflow is pretty restrictive. Here is an image: Is it possible due me clearing up storage space and the fact the SSD is sitting in a very closed off position, the SSD actually overheated? And if so, what can I do regarding its position there? I don't really have a lot of room at the front anymore to tuck it away cleanly. Is something like thermal pads an option?
  18. The 1060 6GB can be overclocked to kingdom come. So yes, that is normal. Although I wouldn't keep it running that high; for one you'll basically be sitting to a plane accoustic wise, but also it might wear out the fans. A mate of mine has the 3GB versions and also able to get that OC regarding the memory speed on his card. He is however not able to get a core speed OC beyond 140.
  19. Wait for the summer indeed. Not just for the 3000 series, but you might be able to snaggle a second hand 2080 for the same price as a new 2070 super at that moment. In the meanwhile, amd might bring out something fancy as well. Regarding the gddr6 price bump: it depends. If it is just a higher demand with supply following, it will be just a small price increase. If however there is a shortage of the memory on the market, it will also lead to a shortage of of new cards. Then prices will actually soar high. But then again, summer is a long way from now and supply issues might be solved by that time.
  20. Here is maybe an idea: why not an airmouse? If it just going to be a htpc and not for productivity purposes, you can try that. I have it for my htpc and it works quite well.
  21. Just be careful with scammers. 220 dollars, or the equivalent of that in your currency, seems to be a very attractive price. If you can get it for that price, please do because that's a sincerely excellent deal. But preferable pick up the card yourself and pay by hand.
  22. if you aren't looking for 4K gaming or ray tracing, save yourself the 280 bucks and get that 1070Ti. It's very good value for your money and performs almost equally to a GTX 1080. I think you'll be able to push settings to high on 1440p with this card.
  23. A 970 would certainly not be bad either. They come at the same price as a 1050 Ti and it does have substantially more performance. The drawback is that it has a lot more power consumption. The 1050 Ti only requires 75W, while the 970 requires 145W. With the 1050 Ti he could scale back on the PSU. More so if he gets a version that doesn't require a power connector. He is aiming to do it with the AMD motherboard and cpu he has right now. I don't know how much budget he has freed up for the project, but I'd say getting another motherboard and cpu would definitely put him way over it. Either way, for the games he wants to play he'll get solid performance probably at 1080p high settings with either a 970 or 1050 Ti.
  24. I think that if we are talking about a gtx 660 or 670, they are going to be used since they don't sell these new anymore.
  25. If he gets a proper 350W power supply and goes for a 1050 Ti instead of the 670, that could work too.
