  1. I will probably go with these parts. I'll see if I can find a cheap listing of the ram somewhere. Thanks!
  2. Sorry for the late response! Nope he won't be overclocking, he can barely tell the difference between 30 fps and 60 fps lol. Yes he will be using the case from my old build (nzxt phantom). Also nice call on just replacing the mobo entirely. So what mobo should I get for him if he doesn't need a case?
  3. So I'm planning to finish up a build for my father. I'll be using 3 spare parts from my old build and I need help picking out the rest of the parts while also being on a budget of less than $300 The spare parts are: GTX 980 Corsair CX750M Power Supply Asus z87-pro V edition motherboard So basically I just need help picking out the rest of the parts that will add up to less than $300, like the RAM, CPU, and hard drive/ssd. Excluding optical disk drive, windows, CPU cooler etc. Also I'm not sure if its worth it to get him a cheap SSD and a cheap HDD or just one really good HDD too. Thanks.
  4. So I've never had a decent monitor, for picture quality at least. I currently have an ASUS vg248qe because I'm a competitive gamer and want the best response time and refresh rate so I didn't really care about picture quality. Now I'm looking for the opposite and want the best image quality 4k IPS monitor for around $500. I'm running on a really high end PC and I've been wanting to play my single player games with beautiful graphics on a display that can compliment them. I'll also be hooking up my PS4 to this monitor by the way. Thanks
  5. So I've managed to get a stable overclock of 4.6ghz at 1.36v on my i7 6700k, hooray me (i guess). I have tried for hours now to get adaptive mode to work, I just feel like giving up on that though and just let my cpu run static at 1.36v. So my question is, is it safe to keep the voltage at 1.36 for hours a day even on idle? My temperatures are perfectly fine idle and on load with a demanding game like Battlefield 1 running so I don't see why it wouldn't be safe. If it's not safe, could someone help me setting up adaptive?
  6. As for 100% load I need to test, going to download prime 95
  7. Hey there. So I have overclocked my i7 6700k to 4.5 and upped the voltage to 1.312v. It seems to been running fine and stable with games open like battlefield 1 and overwatch for 6 hours now. My question is, is it safe to have the voltage run at that amount at all times? If not, how can I make the voltage reduce itself when it's idle? My temperatures seem 100% fine so I don't think it would be a problem leaving the voltage as is. Also, what program should I use to stress test my cpu and for how long should I do it? Thanks
  8. Now running at 1700 idle. Whether it doesn't hurt my GPU or not i'd like to fix this. It's very strange
  9. I tried that also, still got wonky idle speeds.
  10. Hey theres. So I recently built a new PC yesterday, here are my specs: EVGA GTX 1080 SC GPU i7 6700k CPU Corsair RM850X PSU Corsair Dominator Platinum 16GB (2x8) RAM Asus Z170-A MOBO H100i v2 ASUS vg248qe monitor (using same hard drive and ssd's from old PC) So the problem I have is that the GPU clock speeds are really high on idle, with only chrome open. I seem to "fix" the issue several ways including lowering my monitors hertz from 144 to 60, enabling adaptive and optimal power in the nvidia control panel, reinstalling geforce drivers, disabling shadowplay, trying different GPU overclock programs, opening programs one by one to see which is causing my GPU to run high, and even disconnecting my second monitor. All of these solutions seem to work for a while, but then my clock speed returns to 1252 + up from 232. I realize this isn't a major issue but this is really frustrating, I don't want my GPU to be running at a high temp while nothing is happening. Sometimes the idle speed is completely fine when my monitor is at 144hz, and sometimes its not. Sometimes I'll open a program like spotify and it will go up to 1700 clock speed. The only thing I can chalk it down to is that windows 10 is asking to get activated since all my hardware is new except my storage drives and I think I have to purchase a key since I upgradedto windows 10 when it was free. Should I try going to windows 8.1? Thanks to whoever can help
  11. Thanks guys. I'll make sure to post a build including a PSU next time lol
  12. Yeeeep lol. So how many watts would I be good with? Gonna go with a Corsair RMX
