  1. Seriously am going to smash this thing to bits, having to fiddle with small screws when I’m angry, having to reassemble disassemble reassemble disassemble to no avail, really pisses me off
  2. I want to repeat this once more as it doesn’t seem like anybody seems to be getting what I’m saying, the laptop is completely 100% completely! Fine. Nothing is fried. It was working completely fine until I disassembled it. please for the love of god don’t say “maybe you fried it” because if you consider the fact I’ve said I’ve had the EXACT same issue before and fixed it somehow that it’s CLEAR I haven’t fried it. sorry if I seem annoyed but I am, it frustrates me that it’s not resonating in anybody’s mind that I’ve had same issue before and therefore it’s the same problem and therefore requires the SAME FIX I just don’t know what it bloody is. when I get it back tomorrow I’m going to try the residual power drain trick MULTIPLE times, and this time I’m going to hold the power button for ages
  3. This is really annoying me, I got frustrated with it and ended up taking it to a repair shop who’ve said they can’t fix it which is absolutely rubbish. I disassembled this laptop before and had this exact same issue where the laptop just doesn’t turn on, shows no signs of life, I did something where I held down the power button, took out the CMOS battery. plugged the power cable in and out multiple times hopelessly trying to turn it on, and after I plugged in the power cable and tried to turn it on, it turned on! I then bought a new lid for it (not a screen, the lid OF the screen), to replace it I had to disconnect the screens ribbon cable from the motherboard, then I reassembled it and tried to turn it on, it turned on but the screen LCD wouldn’t turn on, I disassembled it once more to see if I hadn’t reconnected the ribbon cable properly, reassembled and now the bloody thing won’t turn on again!!! I told this to the repair shop thinking they’d instantly realise what I’ve done wrong (and what I did to repair it - and therefore what the fix is) but no, he checked all the connectors and couldn’t see the issue, he then sent it to “the warehouse” they’ve said they can’t fix it, after testing all the components - I think they’re just bloody idiots - I thought it was obvious that I haven’t fried the components I just haven’t reassembled it properly something to do with the electricity, they said I can pick it up tomorrow and they’ll have the details as to why it can’t be fixed, it’s a really simple problem to fix if you think that I had the issue before and miraculously somehow fixed it without entirely knowing what I did exactly. Can somebody tell me what I’ve done wrong before I pick up laptop just so I can smash it to bits? Thanks for the help.
  4. Hi, I'm having a few issues with my computers temperature, I've ordered some thermal paste just in-case that's what's causing it,inside the laptop is a GTX 970m, I'm able to play at a solid 60 fps but once the temperature starts increasing to 90c the FPS dropsto 30-45 fps which is terrible performance for a 970m so I'm certain the CPU thermal throttling is the issue, I'd like to be able to turnoff the thermal throttling and handle the temperature myself by reducing graphics and monitoring temperatures and applying new thermalpaste, I noticed that sometimes my computer will go over 72c and thermal throttling is enabled then, which I understand is to extend the lifeof the processor, I'd like to adjust it so that I control how long the processor lives for (if it dies in 2 years, that's ok). Full specs: MSI Apache Pro GE62 6QF MS-16J43 motherboard with BIOS E16J4IMS.117 (this was the latest BIOS I could find, but it doesn't have the ability to disable thermal throttling). i7-6700k @ 2.60GHz Windows 10 Pro
  5. Perhaps, although I wouldn't expect it show up after just typing the number 6...
  6. Hi, My mum just sent me a movie name to watch (on my phone via. texts not messenger), it's called 6 underground, I started by typing the number 6 into Google on my laptop and the first 2 suggestions are "6 underground" and "6 underground cast" (it's just a suggestion, not a previous search history). Can somebody tell me how is this possible? The only thing that I can think of is that someone using my internet connection searched it up?
  7. Hi, I just bought a new laptop, my previous laptop had this same issue (I didn't buy a new laptop for this reason, but I thought it would disappear)... When I went and bought the laptop from someone I noticed it happen, and even after reinstalling the OS it hasn't fixed the problem, so what the hell is wrong with Windows 10? Here is an exact description of the issue: I open Firefox, use it, and then after I minimize it and then click the program on the taskbar to restore it, Firefox does not restore, it makes the classic Windows error sound (the sound that happens when you try and do something that Windows can't do, like clicking something that can't be clicked). Literally all you have to do is imagine this, Firefox is open, you minimize it, then click it to restore it, doesn't restore, makes error sound, it's simple and I can't really explain it any more than that. Right-clicking it doesn't solve the issue, using Task Manager to restore it doesn't fix it... The one thing that did work was using Task View, which produced the error sound the first time but worked the second time. I'm not looking for alternative workaround to fix the issue, I want to be able to use the computer normally without there being some knack to using it. Thanks for the help, is anyone else experiencing this?
  8. I actually managed to buy a 970M 16GB RAM i7 6th Gen for £360 Yeah it's not a 1060, but it's equivelant/slightly better than the 1050-Ti Proof: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MSI-Apache-Pro-GE62-Nvidia-GTX-970m-3GB/273987974470 Surprisingly nobody bid on this auction, I'm not sure why... This was in combination with a 10% off coupon. I saw another another laptop (I missed the end of the auction, I bid right at the last minute so it doesn't give other people a chance to increase their bid) go for £361 (no 10% off) which had a 1050-Ti
  9. Hi, How unlikely would it be to get a GTX 1060 laptop, used, with cracked corner, for £350 or less? Is this very very unlikely if not impossible? I assume this type of laptop would go for at least £500, am I right? Or is it quite possible?
  10. Secret money making method that I feel like sharing... I noticed that HP screens were being sold for £37, but you can buy a cheaper version for £20 made by a different company but has the same part number, so what you can do is make an eBay listing for "(BRAND) (MODEL) replacement screen" and instead send them a screen made by a different manufacturer, just be sure to put in the description "you will recieve a screen which is compatilble with your laptop and will be by any of the following manufacturers etc. etc." Enjoy being rich Technically you can do this with anything, like for example a replacement screen for the S9, you can make it appear as though it's an offical one but put something in the description which makes it legal. An example of someone doing this and what gave me the idea: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/HP-Elitebook-8450P-8470P-8470W-8460P-8460W-Folio-9470M-Notebook-Screen-Read-Note/380827830804 But this screen, which is £17 less is the exact same: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LG-ELECTRONICS-LP140WD2-TL-D1-6091L-0881F-653040-001-14-LCD-SCREEN-USED/283558646396 The only difference is, it's not listed as a replacement screen for a certain model laptop (it's not as easy to find, this is how you can make profit). There's another way that I spotted, many people are selling things like RAM and other components that you can sell for more. The best one is laptops, buy ones that are cheaper than they should be, and find someone who isn't that knowledgable in computers to buy it for more than it's worth (99% of the population).
  11. I can vouch for this. Don't even trust certain shops (like phone case shops) I bought a USB stick which I thought was a 128GB USB and it turned out to be a 8GB USB which had been modified to make it look like a 128GB USB... What happens is once you reach 8GB it starts overwriting your other data. If you're going to buy one from eBay make sure the seller has thousands of positive reviews and that the USB is reasonably priced, if it seems too good to be true it probably is. Here's a YouTube video which explains it:
  12. For anyone who finds this thread, I found out that all the screens I listed were compatible. HP sometimes uses screens manufactured by LG, which is why the LG screen has the HP PartSurfer part no. those screens were actually removed from a HP laptop. Something I learned was that despite all the brackets, resolution, connector etc. being the same, it's the software that matters, for example if Lenovo produced a screen which appears to be the exact same as a HP screen, it might not work because the software (built in to the hardware, not the OS) on the HP laptop might not be compatible with the Lenovo screen... Think of it as the screen is the same but speaks a different language.
  13. What I've done is found the manufacturer no. and put that into the HP PartSurfer, it didn't tell me the part no. of the screen in my laptop BUT does say which ones are compatible, it gives you an alternate part number instead which is just as good, albeit if you wanted to find the EXACT same screen again you wouldn't be able to.
  14. What good would contacting the manufacturer be? or searching for a teardown? If all I can give them is the model no and manufacturer no. All the screen sellers keep saying they need the part no. from the back of the screen, instead I tell them the exact model but they can't figure it out from that...
  15. If I bought a laptop from eBay with no screen, how would I find out the right screen to buy without the screen to get the part no from the back?
