  1. That's something I haven't thought of, good idea. And set the voltage? Or just let it do it's crazy 0.9-1.5v?
  2. Yea I've seen that article, but I thought it's for 1xxxx CPU's like 1800x. I've been advised from a guy that knows "a little" about overclocking to change the motherboard to one with more powerful VRM's, I've picked the MSI MEG x570 ACE and hope for more OC compatibilities and stability. Especially memory clocks. The ASUS Bios with the "AI Tweaker" is driving me nuts! And I am happy to return this Prime-Pro mobo back where it came from
  3. Installed Corsair's 280mm AIO and temps obviously improved, maybe not that much but they're more stable. What I've noticed is completely different reads of the CPU Temp in Ryzen Master and AIDA (screenshot) Why is there 20c difference? And most important - which one is real? I've finally got 4.2ghz but that's still far from 4.4... EDIT: Also... it stil crashes on anything higher than 4250mhz in manual mode
  4. It's more the boost speeds that I'm concerned about, the cooler does a great job actually, after setting up the fan curve I'm not going over 75c in benchmark. I'll order some AIO just for peace of mind but as I've said earlier, this processor reaches 4.2 only on manual all core boost. It crashed at 4250... ?
  5. I've recently build a PC, topic here: Long story short Its a 3700x with a stock cooler (for now) sitting in Asus x570 Prime-PRO with 2x8gb ram G.Skill Tridenz Z Neo 3600mhz I've been trying to play with the PBO, Auto overclock, but i can't get even to 4.2ghz boost. I have updated BIOS to the new "ABBA" version, did not see any improvement at all. Played with BIOS, switching PBO from Auto to enabled, raised the PPT to 180 (because RYZEN MASTER wouldn't raise it from 88W after bios update), no results. I've honestly had the best results by overclocking it manually to 4.2ghz skipping all the "Overdrives", but that kind of performance is still not the advertised one. In Cinebench I scored 4455 which is ~300 points lower than expected. I don't really know what other details I should provide, so I will provide all info needed when asked. The performance just doesn't feel right for me, I've heard that the 4.4ghz boost is possible maaaybe on a single core but i haven't even seen solid 4.2... UPDATE: After setting up the clocks @4.2 and voltage to 1.3 i scored 4777, which is what i would be expecting. Temps didn't go over 75c, i let the fan run at 100%. The run on the screen with 83c was on lower fan speeds. I had some crashes on 4250 but i was doing it through ryzen master, not the bios.
  6. PC posted on the first try! I kept the OEM thermal paste for now, it did read the 3600mhz ram with no problem. I've plugged old Radeon HD 7000 to test it from some old dell optiplex I had ? Cable management is something new for me, but it's just a matter of looking up the pictures on the internet. Last time I've build a PC from scratch was when a 80gb IDE HDD was enough for OS, apps and games ? I will post some better pictures when I'll have some good light and the build is done, maybe you guys will have some tips for managing the cables around. I got a 20% off coupon for cablemod.com. I'll probably use it to get some nicer cables. Now I have to wait for the GPU's to be available... I hope that the prices won't go up And i definitely need to change the case fans!
  7. Is there any noticeable difference between a 480-580$ 2070s? I know there is some slight overclock in some of them, but isn't that something i can achieve buying a cheaper model and overclocking it myself? I mean is there a reason (besides cosmetic, i like the asus rog 2070s look) to buy a more expensive one? They're out of stock till september 12th anyway so I will probably end up buying a different brand. I wanted to have good cooling thats also why i wanted to pick Asus ROG Strix 2070super, triple fans and really thick radiator. I already have the G3 PSU, G.Skillz rams and 1tb samsung ssd delivered and waiting for the rest There is also a MSX "Gaming X Trio" with similar specs but its more "fancy rgb looking". EDIT: Nvm... its also out of stock ?
  8. You're right. I've just ordered the 3700x and different RAM from newegg - https://www.newegg.com/g-skill-16gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820232859?Item=N82E16820232859 These ones had better latency and are definitely compatible with the x570, so i think I've made the right choice. I had the PSU and motherboard ordered already, but you give me good reasons to return them and trade them for the Asus Prime MB (too bad its white...) and SeaSonic PSU. I don't have too much trust in Corsair PSU's Don't really need WiFi, i was happy to have built-in bluetooth but i can always put in an extension card if needed. I will use wired connection for the internet. <edit> what about this one? https://www.newegg.com/asus-rog-strix-x570-f-gaming/p/N82E16813119195 As of the thermal compound I just have couple syringes of MX-4, most of people always told me to use an aftermarket one since the OEM one is probably lower quality. Also just double checked and in Define R6 it's exactly 300mm between the back and the HDD bay's in the front. Which I'd like to keep, so hopefully the 2070-S will fit. Maybe vertically someday? How is the stock cooler handling the 3700x? Will it handle slight overclocking?
  9. Seems like the 2070 super will be something in the middle with the price/performance. I'm too scared to put a used 1080ti. Especialy when all the other parts will be new. Only thing that wonders me... is this one gonna fit my Define R6 case? ASUS ROG STRIX GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER Advanced Overclocked 8G GDDR6 HDMI DisplayPort USB Type-C Gaming Graphics Card (ROG-STRIX-RTX2070S-A8G-GAMING) https://m.newegg.com/product/N82E16814126330?m_ver=1 I think i will also go a step higher with the CPU - 3800x.
  10. Thank you for the reply! I forgot to mention the cooler stuff, I will probably leave the stock cooler until I decide if I want to go crazy and create some custom water cooling or stay with classic air vent, then I will definitely go with the Noctua. I've just ordered Seagate BarraCuda 4tb, it is 5400rpm, it's just a hdd for storage so i don't really care about speeds in this one. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07D9C7SQH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 As long it holds all my videos and pictures and it doesn't fall apart after a month it's totally enough. :) How about the GPU? That's my hardest part to decide... I know that after all I will have to make the choice by myself anyway, but before that I need to have the discussion with the smart ones :)
  11. Hey people, first of all welcome all! I'm happy to finally signup for this forum and find many answers for my question before even opening any thread. I've been a Linustechtips subscriber for a long time now. I'am building a PC for myself, and it's been a struggle. For a long time I've just sticked to laptops since I've been a truck driver in the last couple years. Now I'm just driving locally and I'm home everyday so it's time to finally build my own ultimate desktop PC! I've researched alot before making any decision and posting a thread here. I don't want to be the type of a guy that just waits for a ready setup. I want to set it up the way I want it and probably that's how all of you guys do it here. Never been an Intel fan but I've always had Intels in my laptops, they did what i've expected but I always had AMD "in my heart" That's why I've decided to go with AMD and probably pick 3700x. What will the computer be used for? I'm not a crazy gamer, but I like to play from time to time, sometimes 2hrs during a week sometimes 8hrs on a weekend. I don't need huge FPS numbers, but I rather have the PC ready for the games I'll want to play in the future. The only game I need FPS is CS:GO, but i think this setup will handle it easily. I'm trying myself in a lot of categories, I'm studying programming in python, couple years ago I was making 3d models in 3ds max... In a computer world, there is always something that's interesting me. (Trying to quit trucking and find a job that will give me more freedom - maybe a freelancer someday) I planned to buy a PS4 PRO on the oncoming black friday. But I've plugged my laptop to my TV (75" 4k) and i was more than satisfied. I don't see a reason to buy a console anymore, I just need a better PC. What i have: Fractal Design Define R6 - This is a case that I've bought new for 30$ with damaged side panel, replaced it with a tempered glass one and now I'm a happy man with a 160$ case for 1/2 the price I want this exact model because it has a 5.25 slot for a DVD drive. Yes, my GTA 5 is on 7 damn DVD's.... ? Dell 27" 144hz monitor with G-sync - S2716DGB - This monior sucks, has alot of blur and strange colors @144hz but I'm not changing it for now. With my bad eyes i need to stay with 27" also. I will maybe add one monitor 24" verticaly on a side for programming and maybe a second 27" as a secondary one. But that doesn't matter right now Keyboard: Steelseries Apex M800 Mouse: Steelseries Sensei [RAW] My budget: One word: flexible. I don't have money saved up just for the computer. I wont build a top tier computer but I want to build a future proof setup that I will be able to upgrade. That's why I am choosing parts like AM4 socket and motherboard with the x570 chipset, or 2x8gb ram instead of 4x4gb. I'm trying to pick parts that are the best but don't have ridiculously high prices. Example: choosing 3700x over 3800x and definitely 3900x, but have the ability to upgrade someday in the future without changing the motherboard. I can always save a couple more bucks and buy something better if it's really worth it. The build I've made: Case: Fractal Design Define R6 USB-C Blackout + added tempered glass panel Motherboard: Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI) ATX AM4 Motherboard CPU: AMD Ryzen 3700x + Arctic Silver 5 or just the MX-4 that i already have Cooler if needed: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO 82.9 CFM Sleeve Bearing CPU Cooler Memory: G.Skill Trident Z RGB 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 Memory - i thought about 3200... but the price difference isn't really that bad so why not? And hate me or not, but I really like the way they look. I'm just not sure which model will be the best for 3700x on x570.... Storage: - Samsung 970 Evo 1 TB M.2-2280 NVME Solid State Drive - for software and games, I trust Samsung SSD products - Crucial MX500 500 GB 2.5" Solid State Drive - MORE GAMES (already have it, brand new, bought it for something else some time ago) - Seagate BarraCuda 1tb 2.5" HDD 5400rpm - i just have it, i'll use it for some backup, old photos or seperate OS like linux - I will probably buy at least one 4tb 3.5 drive for storage Video card: Asus GeForce RTX 2070 8 GB STRIX GAMING OC Video Card - read below... Aaaand here is the problem that i have... Why buy a 2070 if a GTX 1080ti is basically for the same price (used) with more memory and better performance? I've watched alot of reviews, videos comparing those two and i just don't know... I will not spend money for a RTX 2080ti... I would like to but it's just too much $$ now. Ray-Tracing is a cool feature of RTX and i believe there will be more optimization from both Nvidia and game developers. Also I'm not sure but the 3700x might be a bit of a bottleneck for RTX 2080ti but i don't know. After watching the reviews of RTX 2070 seems that the Ray-Tracing is basically useless... On the other side, alot of GTX 1080ti's that are for sale on ebay are probably thrown out from mining rigs and should be just thrown away instead they're selling them on ebay as "rarely used only for gaming minecraft and Most Wanted" ? So I just don't know and i count on your advice here, I'd like to spend around 500$ for a GPU, if there is a nice improvement maybe it's worth to get the RTX 2080? or 2080 Super? 2070 - 430$ 2070 Super - 500$ (+70$) 1080ti (used) - 520$ - (+90$) - see my point? 2080 - 600$ (+170$) 2080 Super - 700$ (+270$) 2080ti - 1000$ (+570$) - no way! In conclusion - That is why I have a huge problem choosing between 1080ti and the 2070/2070 Super. And maybe I could even save up and spend some more for the 2080 but there is so many variables already here that I'm just going crazy and I got completely no idea if it's worth the money. (Maybe buy a 2070 and just upgrade later hoping the prices drop?) Power supply - EVGA SuperNOVA 750 G3, 80 Plus Gold 750W, Fully Modular - That's what the PSU Calculator recommended, and I hope it will handle future upgrades of GPU, CPU and water cooling. Right? If someone has a different opinion about choosing AMD over Intel, I am open for a discussion, that's the reason I'm opening this thread. My research time is over, it is a time for a discussion now Also I have a question that i cant find the answer for... The fractal design case offers 2x USB 2.0, 2x USB 3.0 and one usb type C in the front. The connector would connect to the motherboard listed above (ASUS TUF x570), the manual states that the motherboard connector is for 4x USB 2.0 ports (I am not sure about that). How will the front panel work then? Will I only have 2x USB 2.0? Or the 3.0 will work as 2.0? What about Type-C? I'am sorry if the whole thing is too long, I am trying to explain everything in the most clear way I can. Also typing just "hey check my build, is it ok?" would feel like I just don't care and look for a quick answer, which is not true. I am open for discussion for any part that I've chosen above. This is gonna be my dream build so I just want to make everything perfect. I have read all the highlited threads above about posting a new thread, I've used the pcpartpicker.com site to setup the build, and Amazon.
