  1. Hello everyone! I've been looking at buying a NAS for a while now, but now I'm thinking it would be more fun to build one. Usage would be mainly storage and cloud (eg. next-cloud) and some services (home assistant, docker containers, some VMs). Still don't know if Proxmox or TrueNAS scale as OS. I don't know what to choose for CPU and MB. What I was aiming for was to do everything at adequate performance but with an eye to energy consumption (Italy where energy is not free at all). Not a clear idea on the budget, mainly around 600/700 euros, lower the better. The only starting point was the case (Silverstone CS351), since is the only one with "small" size and hot-swap bays (which I'd like to have) that i found easily available, but anything better is welcomed. Thanks for the help!
  2. I finally decided to go with the Surface Pro 3. This because its tablet form factor make it very versatile tu use in mobility. As a student i travel to go to the university (train and bus) so the surface it's more comfortable to use in thight spaces than a normal laptop. Also the touch screen allow me to read PDF school books without printing them and take digital handwritten notes it's a great space saver. Full powered pc in a tablet form factor i think is ideal for students. So if someone is looking this topic because is in the same situation i say: think what you are going to do with it. If you are a student or you'd like to take digital handwritten notes without losing the power and the comfort of a full pc, go with the Surface Pro 3. If you need a pc that is going to be your primary pc or you don't need a touch screen, then go with the Dell XPS 13. At the same price you get a better keyboard and more memory and ram and (if you choose the 1080p version) a lot of battery life Thanks all for your advice
  3. CPU, GPU and MotherB are only one generation old in the A, so still very good
  4. It depend of your budget and what you want to do with it. If i had to choose i'll go with B, because even if it has less powerfull CPU and GPU (not really much, the 970 goes not too far from a 780, you are not going to have problems running games at hi-res), it has newer part, so in future you'll have less compatibility problems (as DX12). Then it's liquid cooled, so you can overclock the i5-4670K and have all the horse power you need. ...
  5. If that was the problem i wouldn't even create the topic
  6. yes i know of the discount, in fact the surface price i put is the student price . Sure when I buy it I'll post which one . Now I whait for more opinions
  7. Hi guys, I am a college student and now I need a new laptop to use at the university. I Study computer engineering and so I need something powerful enough, as I have, as well as take notes, use compilers and virtual machines sometimes. I have two candidates, but I do not know which to choose, so I wanted to ask your advice. Which to choose between: 1. Dell XPS 13 2015: i5, 256GB SSD, 8GB Ram and non-touch display 1080p (price € 1099) 2. Surface Pro 3: same configuration. (Price € 1,322 with Type Cover) I really like both, but I do not know whether to sacrifice the touch screen to save € 200. The touch model of the Dell for me is not viable, because i don't find comfortable a regular laptop with a touch screen. In long term(it should be my study machine for the next 4/5 years) wich is the best? Which would you recommend? Thanks in advance P.S. : I've a pretty powerfull desktop at home, so if you have other suggestion or combination
  8. For streaming Steam games in my livingroom, perfect!! Good luck everyone!
  9. My favorite item of the bundle is the Accent lighting kit! Because what gamer doesn't want some fancy lights on his sistem?
  10. I've some keys if anyone want's one
  11. Ram overclocking isn't needed? i've 8GB corsair vengance 1600MHz
  12. So easy? up clock, up voltage, verify if stable, end? Just it?
  13. Hi everyone, some monthes ago i've built my new pc and now i'd like to overclock it and bring my I5-4670K to about 4.0/4.2 GHz , but i'm a noob and i don't know how to do it. My motherboard is and MSI Z87-G45 and has the OCGenie4 feature that is an Auto-overclocking sistem. So i was thinking: For the beginners is better use this feature or it isn't worth it and is better manual overclock? and if it is, someone can help me? Thanks very much
  14. Hi guys, i want to thank everybody for the support for my problem , and the solution was to change with a new one. The problem probably was the lack of liquid in the cooler. Because it was in guarantee i send it back, open it to refill it yourself invalidate the guarantee(and i don't know how to open it and on the internet i didn't found nothing). I installed the new one and the min temps (in idle) are around 26 °C and max temp. (mesured on a 5 minutes stress test) for now is 43 °C. I've attached the image of CPU-Z and RealTemp 3.7 i also put the rubber o-rings on the backplate because there was to much play for the block and i used the stock thermal paste, probably with better paste the temps could go lower, but for now it's ok .
  15. Later i'm going to do it and i'll take photo of everything
