  1. I just contacted my favorite antivirus company and was told they use only their own database. Pretty cool. That would also explain why some antivirus companies are awful and others are amazing.
  2. I did not miss the point. Heuristics are detection algorithms, they observe application behavior and if something is suspicious they flag it either for manual review or for detection. If a virus is made on one machine and is not detected it is only a matter of a few hours or days before it will be detected. This is how Heuristics works.
  3. Yes, that is why the AV software uses heuristics
  4. The viruses are detected using heuristics algorithms (which are part of the AV software) the software then reports the virus sample to the company and it is submitted in one of the update files to all other owners of the AV software.
  5. Is there a searchable database they pull from so that newly submitted threats from one company can be used across companies to protect the world against threats or does each company have a proprietary database, that only they know the virus definitions for? Vulnerabilities are catalogued in a searchable format so companies can patch them, I would assume viruses are a mix of both public and proprietary databases?
  6. Funny you say that... I used to have a really luxurious SUV and got rid of it for a much simpler Toyota (with better gas mileage). I'm a fan of less-is-more philosophy unless it comes to VRAM in which case I want the most for the best price.
  7. Good point! Having worked in sales and studying a bit about marketing I can see that AMD is the performance brand and Nvidia is the luxury brand... Their brand identity revolves around it and since there are only 2 players (much like Intel and AMD) it makes sense one of them had to end up the value brand.
  8. My 570 cost me $119 so I think price/performance it's way more worth it to get a 570 or 580. If I wanted top of the line but with less VRAM and pay way more I'd choose Nvidia.
  9. Anyone have any ideas why Nvidia is so expensive compared to AMD? (besides the fact they have some proprietary tech) the AMD RX580 8GB beats the 1060 6GB in several categories (according to userbenchmark) and costs significantly less, not to mention the fact it has 2GB more VRAM. It's also a newer chip and I think has a lower nm count? When you compare the 580 to the 1070, the 1070 beats it significantly but also costs significantly more. Why does Nvidia not offer something comparable in price to performance to AMD?
  10. I created an account on here just to respond to this... Have you gotten it figured out? I have a gigabyte motherboard with a Ryzen 5 2600 and experience the same exact issue. I am currently in contact with gigabyte and have the most recent BIOS (flashed it myself) From what I've studied and read it appears other people have this issue and it's most likely an issue caused ever since Microsoft added the gaming mode to windows... apparently not much we can do about it... Either that or it's an issue with the CPU.
