I currently have an old ASUS VW246H monitor that I use for gaming. My plan was to finally upgrade early this year to a 144hz or 240hz monitor but unfortunately the virus has made getting the one I want impossible for the time being due to supply chain issues. As such, I have overclocked my monitor to get as much performance out of it as I can. The issue I have is that this monitor is so old that it only has DVI and HDMI inputs. I have had trouble finding information on what version of the HDMI standard this monitor has. What kind of refresh rates can I conceivably push through the monitor and actually see? I have been able to get my monitor to 73hz without issue; however, I don't know if there is any point in doing so since I may not be able to see the difference due to HDMI limits.

Yeah it's purely a temporary situation while I save up a bit more money and wait for the 3900X to come back in stock. Thanks for the reply.

You're missing the point of this post but whatever.

SATA3 is added from a PCIe card, RAM runs at 2133, Of course no PCIe 3. Obviously my CPU is trash at the moment. No need to be malicious. Plan is to move to a Ryzen 3900X but it's particularly hard to find right now.

Thanks for the hasty reply. Yes I can overclock although my board is not the greatest for it. I was overclocked for a while but had to reset the CMOS for something unrelated and hadn't OCed since. My plan was indeed to OC as much as is stable until I do my next build. The numbers on that site seem to indicate I will see a pretty hefty boost in performance despite the major bottleneck of my CPU. Currently I'm only gaming at 1080p and will only be moving up to 1440p/144hz once I do my new build and get my new monitor alongside it.

So a new build is on my plate and its been a long time coming; however, I'm wondering if getting my new graphics card first and sticking it in my current rig until I build the rest is worthwhile due to my severely out of date processor. So my current rig has a 1st Gen Core i5 750 and a GeForce GTX 780. For my new build I'm going top of the line (within reason) with my graphics card and going with a 2080Ti. I found a 2080Ti for a decent price and as it's by the far the most expensive part of the build I was tempted to pick it up now and use it until ready. Will I see any appreciable boost in performance or is my CPU already severely bottle necking my current card?
