  1. Hello everyone! I am pretty sure I know where my problem comes from but I would like to get more people opinion because thinking you know the answer and being right is 2 different things! So here is the thing, I am running a P57X v6 (gaming laptop) that is supposed to run Nvidia Optimus (Gigabyte's support told me this info, I don't know where to look to know it -_-) and, using the mini-DP, I got an external monitor (Asus VG248EQ) to run games at 144 Hz. So here is the thing: whenever I want to run UFO test I am seeing it capped at 60 fps until I launch a game and then see it capped at 144 Hz. As I said I thing I know the problem: considering the laptop uses Optimus technology (please tell me where to find proof of that on my machine), whenever only the webpage of UFO Test is open, only the iGPU, capped at 60 Hz, is used (iGPU is the integrated graphics of Intel's CPU, I precise for anyone without experience looking to solve a problem similar to the one I am describing ?) but when a game is opened Optimus switch over to the dGPU (dedicated GPU, a GTX 1070 in my case, non max-Q mobile variant) which obviously goes above the 60 Hz and I can then see UFO Test reach 144 Hz. Please tell me if I am thinking this right and please don't hate my monitor, I got it for nearly 100$ as refurbished, I wouldn't recommend it at any higher price, colors suck! Also if you get a chance to recommend me a monitor upgrade it's actually what I plan to invest next (the tower will come after I don't need to bring a powerful computer for 3D rendering at school). I don't know if my GPU could push 2K (1440p) at something such as 144 Hz (or even 60 Hz for that matter) I lack experience in anything exceeding 1080p. BONUS: I got no clue why it does it but whenever I close my computer lid UFO Test goes back to being capped at 60 Hz and I don't know any tool to see if games does the same since I can sometime see 200 FPS (which obviously is impossible to display, I just assume it's what the game is pushing)
  2. Hello everyone! As the title says I am looking for recommendations about gaming monitor. So here is my current setup: Xbox one X Gaming laptop (P57X v6) - i7-6700HQ - GTX 1070 (obviously the mobile version) It's important to note that Gigabyte (the laptop manufacturer) didn't made their ports "G-Sync" capable. In other words they've put another Nvidia tech designed for power efficiency (I can't recall the name tho). In other words, even with a GTX I won't be able to enjoy G-Sync... As for refresh rate I got no clue as the limitation... I would suppose there is none expect the ports generation (1x HDMI 1.4, 1x Mini DP and another one I probably won't ever use XD) Anyway, you're free to do research about the laptop if you feel it could help you give me the best recommendation considering the limitations of my laptop. As for what I am looking for in my MAIN monitor: - 27 inch (dealbreaker) (28 inch is aight) - 1080p or 1440p (as I understood over some online research 4K 144 Hz is nearly impossible since you need to the best GPU and even the best CPU causes bottleneck) - 144 Hz of refresh rate! (I am not sure my laptop can deliver the refresh rate, thanks in advance if you do enough research to be able to answer it, but even if it can't I might upgrade to a tower once I am no longer a broke student XD) - Best color accuracy and details in the black area! Is that what HDR is for? (For real some games are a real pain when it comes to see details in the dark because my monitor can't display it) As for the xbox I am totally in the dark as for what I should go for... I ain't playing competitive games on console (I do on PC tho) so I am not looking for High refresh rate (If it's even possible to go with a high refresh rate on console... Sorry I am new on console and I don't know if it can even support higher then 60 fps XD) So yeah, xbox display: Probably between 32 and 55 inch that can be mounted on the TV mount I already have and obviously 4K since it seems to be what the xbox one x is made for So that's it guys I hope you can guide me a bit! Don't hesitate to recommend many monitors to choose from, I like to compare since many can be similar with small variations. And if you want more details just ask ^^
