  1. I get your point but I've already made up my mind on the msi gt76. that liquid metal cooling option seems cool but also increases the price as far as I can tell. and I'm barely able to afford the normal one now. I've considered buying anything less than rtx2080 during the black friday but got cucked as they kept turning down my payment for a great value laptop (msi gp65 with rtx2070 for $1500) so now I'm just not gonna settle for anything less than rtx 2080. I cant and wont get a desktop until I get settled in my own place. I move between countries every 6 months due to either school or work so I need a "portable" device that is easier to carry than a laptop, and not necessarily have to be a thin an light one. just one that is strong enough to run my games and wont get damaged during travels. since my last post the laptop in the link has disappeared and now I'm borrowing money from my family to just buy one with 9700k CPU instead. I dont care about the upgradeability anymore. in the future when the time comes I'll build a pc and give the laptop to my gf or something so we we can play together. thanks for all your suggestions. (I know you guys spent some time sharing your ideas and I I'm sorry that I seemed like I ignored them) edit: desktop
  2. now I'm thinking about this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07WWH8LC7/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza it offers so much value for its price. and some cool gifts as well just gotta wait and earn some money before I can afford it
  3. thanks for the update yea I think its an obvious choice between those 2 laptops
  4. even if its not 100+fps, at least having 60+ should be good enough, I think I'm gonna go with MSI RTX2070
  5. Hi there, months ago I was planning to buy an area 51m and I've seen some desktops with same specs for much lower price and it made me rethink I decided to spend half the money I was going to spend and I spent the day sifting through many laptops and decided on these two laptops that is the best performance for the money I'm willing to spend https://www.newegg.com/aluminum-black-msi-gp-series-gp65-leopard-9sf-240-gaming-entertainment/p/N82E16834155295?Item=N82E16834155295 https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Predator-i7-9750H-Keyboard-PH315-52-78VL/dp/B07QXLFLXT/ref=sr_1_10?keywords=Lenovo+Legion+Y7000&qid=1574720585&sr=8-10 Can you help me decide which one to choose do you think msi can handle the 2070and therefore worth the price? or should I skip these, wait more and buy the area 51m? Notes: I mostly play Black Desert Online and I want the new laptop to be able to play it on at least remastered graphics with 100+ fps I need a laptop because I travel a lot, cant settle for a desktop even if I was able to afford it.
  6. In all the videos I watched are 51m performs better in games while staying cooler. It's just weird that none of the videos mentioned what you say, are you sure this problem wasn't specific to your laptop? With a very bad luck maybe. I was kind of building up my hopes to buy area51 as it costs less than msi gt76 while performing better. I'll do some more research about what other people are unhappy about are51 I guess.
  7. But that's kind of what I'm looking for. I move between countries often(about every 6 months), but when I set my laptop somewhere it stays like that until I move again. So it is important for me to have a portable laptop and I want it to be strong. That's why I'm going for the "desktop replacement" laptops.
  8. hi all, I've been looking for a gaming laptop for myself for about 3 months now and whenever I find a new laptop I compare it with the rest of the laptops I've found and Alienware 51m always comes out on top. I just wanna confirm if area51m is really better than the rest of the options I found. you can recommend me other laptops as well. here are the options I considered: (I stayed away from the "thin" gaming laptops as I didn't wanna have troubles with cooling in the future) https://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/dell-laptops/alienware-area-51m-gaming-laptop-aw-headset/spd/alienware-17-area51m-laptop/wnser7cr5102h?view=configurations&configurationid=b858a935-e0f2-4430-9b03-7cea1b3ee677 https://www.newegg.com/aluminum-black-msi-gt-series-gt76-titan-dt-9sg-090-gaming-entertainment/p/2WC-000C-00FD8 https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/predator-model/NH.Q4YAA.002 https://www.amazon.com/Desktop-Replacement-GeForce-i7-8750H-Processor/dp/B07QSJ6VWN?tag=georiot-us-default-20&ascsubtag=pcg-1407510159597954225-20&th=1 https://www.digitaltrends.com/laptop-reviews/lenovo-legion-y740-review/
  9. Thanks for your answer, I'm glad my curiosity is over
  10. I just Google it and apparently the laptop already ships with 2666mhz Rams and people are waiting for a bios update to support xmp.
  11. Hi all, I'm planning to buy an area 51m It only comes with the option of 2400mhz Rams Would it be worth to buy higher MHz ram and replace the brand new ones?
  12. Thanks for the reply, maybe I didn't clearly state it but I'm not planning on using my laptop after buying a new laptop. I'll probably but Alienware area 51m with rtx 2080 and i7 9700k With the fan my laptop doesn't go over 80C degrees When bdo is fullscreens or minimized, Excel runs slow but when I put bdo on background(tray) the GPU usage drops down to 20% from 99% Does Excel use GPU?
  13. Hi all, I'm looking for a powerful gaming laptop to replace my 5 year old Lenovo y510p I'm here to discuss on what kind of ram and what cpu I need and I'll make another post after this to compare the laptops I'm considering and/or get some recommendations on laptops. my laptop's Specs cpu: i7 4700MQ 2.4GHz gpu: x2 geforce GT 755m (tho I never used sli because the game I play doesnt support it (Black Desert Online)) Ram: 16gb ddr3 2400mhz I use an opolar fan to cool the laptop Here is a breakdown of my laptop and my activities, skip if you are not interested with this laptop I haven't had many problems on running games (I always had to go for low graphics on newer games) the only "unplayable" game I tried was Space Hulk: Deathwing. and the most recent game that I'm playing is Black Desert Online on low settings and I wanna be able to play on remastered or ultra (ultra is claimed to be unplayable becasue of how high specs it requires) I like to play multiple games at once (BDO has afk playing on the background) and some word or excel files (to make spreadsheets) as well. I like watching youtube or a movie on gom on a second monitor while playing games. (some movies start to have low fps while I'm playing) I do ocasional video editing maybe once a month or so. due to the Black Desert Online having afk gameplay, I usually never turn off the laptop and keep it running at night as well (been doing this for longer than a year now and havent seen any problems caused by it) I also watched many videos on YouTube and narroved down most of the questions I had. I'm convinced 16gb ram is enough, but not sure what mhz I need. Also I want a minimum 3ghz cpu but not sure if I require hyper threading (aka i7 vs i9) I'd like to start streaming as well. I dont know if I need ram or cpu power for streaming, should I go for 32gb ram? sometimes I notice the excel slowing down/lagging when the BDO is running or windowed so I need to put BDO on background to be able to use excel. (is this casued by not enough cpu power or ram?) Tldr: is 16gb ram enough for streaming while playing AAA games? Do games benefit from hyper threading?
