  1. Yeah gpus being so pricey as of late is my main concern, better than when scalpers were everywhere but they are still high. My pc looks like this currently: - RTX 2070 - i9-9900k - ROG Maximus XI Hero (Wi-Fi) MOBO - Corsair H100i 240mm - 1000w EVGA Power Supply - 16 gb 3200mhz ram - 1 tb Samsung m.2 - 500gb Samsung m.2 - 4 tb Seagate hdd - Corsair Crystal 570x If I did upgrade I wouldn't sell anything and probably use the parts I trade out for a side project. I'm looking at either keeping everything below the RTX 2070 and just replacing the gpu or keeping everything below the Maximus Mobo and replacing cpu and gpu

  3. Budget (including currency): $1400 Country: United States Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Dead Space, RE4, etc... Other details (existing parts lists, whether any peripherals are needed, what you're upgrading from, when you're going to buy, what resolution and refresh rate you want to play at, etc): - 1000w EVGA Power Supply - 16 gb 3200mhz ram - 1 tb Samsung m.2 - 500gb Samsung m.2 - 4 tb Seagate hdd - Corsair Crystal 570x - Corsair H100i 240mm I've been running an i9-9900k and RTX 2070 for a while now and have been thinking of upgrading to Nvidia's 4000s series as well as switching to AMD. Currently I am thinking about upgrading to a 7800x3d and a RTX 4070 keeping all of my original components but possibly upgrading to a NH-D15 from my Corsair H100i. From my 30 minutes of research it seems solid enough to last for a while, I built my original pc when the i9-9900k came out but I was rug pulled by Nvidia releasing the super tiers of gpus not long after but its still done great for years. Wanted the communities input to see if this would be a worthwhile upgrade, whether there is a better option, or if simply getting the 4070 and keeping everything else would be fine. Thanks in advance.
  4. I agree that if I were to only store games on these drives it would be better to just have all 8 tb on my main gaming rig but that's not the primary focus. While I will still have some games on my machine, like the ones I play most often, the NAS that I want to make is for storing files and games that I don't need right now. My 2 tb hard drive on my machine is already nearly full with not games but mostly school stuff and I would like to offload a lot of the "unneeded" files to a NAS for easy storage. Not to mention I only have 1, 3.5" bay on my machine because when I was building it I went for looks over ease of use (I have a corsair crystal 570x, the other 3.5" bay is used by a RGB controller. I regret this decision). Plus, the main reason I want to try my hand at a personal NAS is just to tinker and have fun with this hardware. This is just a start, I hope to expand this to true NAS duty and maybe something else in the future, getting the bones up and running I think is important.
  5. Country: United States Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Nothing really, just storing stuff and launching games for now (if that's even possible) I didn't know where else to put this other than planning so apologies. I'm planning on using a pc my friend is giving me as my first NAS or just a storage machine that I can use from my main gaming pc but I don't really know where to start besides some googling. The focus is to be able to store files on it and have my games launch from it (if that's even possible). This is basically going to be baby's first NAS I guess. I plan to have 8 tbs of storage to start (two 4tb seagate drives as of right now). The pc he's giving me is more than capable and has a 1060 3gb that I suppose I wont need. But as of right now, I don't know how I would set it up or how communication with it would work. I've looked up some guides and particularly LTT's own "Your Old PC is Your New Server" video and while I think I can follow that video I've been hearing a lot about TrueNAS as well as other operating systems/programs for setting up a NAS. I was wondering what all the benefits and drawbacks of these different systems are so any insight is greatly appreciated.
  6. As the title indicates my PC has begun randomly freezing seemingly out of nowhere. For context I built this PC around a year or two ago and its worked perfectly fine until recently (specs are below). A couple months ago my hard drive (a Barracuda 2tb drive) began to make a clicking sound which to me indicated it was becoming old and needed to be replaced. After ordering a new replacement drive and sending the bad one back for repair (it was still under warranty) the new drive once installed displayed the same symptoms immediately and began clicking upon its first start up. I promptly returned the drive and ordered another only for the new one to display the exact same symptoms again. This happened 3 times now so I was beginning to think that its not the hard drive's fault but rather a different component that causes them to fail, I tried different SATA data and SATA power cables and they all displayed the same activity. I've seen online that the power supply might be the issue, I have a Corsair RM850x power supply 80+ gold but I have no way to test if it is faulty. Everything else seems to work fine, I downloaded a Seagate application that tests the health of your systems drives and the only test the different hard drives fail is the S.M.A.R.T. tests, all other tests come back positive. Further, when I play games off of my 500gb ADATA SSD my system never freezes, I often play Rainbow Six with friends and my PC never freezes or shuts down during use. MOBO post codes indicate that everything is OK and I haven't seen any odd behavior from any other component. Does any one know what could be causing the issue? PC Specs: - CPU: i9-9900k @ 4.9ghz - GPU: RTX 2070 ROG Strix OC - MOBO: Asus Maximus XI Hero (Wifi) - RAM: 16gb Corsair Vengeance RGB - Storage: - 250gb Samsung Evo (boot drive) - 500gb ADATA 2.5" SSD (extra storage) - 2tb Seagate Barracuda (Game storage only) - PSU: 850W Corsair RM850x 80+ gold
  7. Interesting realization as of a couple minutes after that last update, minimizing streamlabs while recording gameplay has negated all of the stuttering and lag issues, I do not know why it lags when it is open but im lag to find that my pc can handle the task even with my gpu at 85% usage as usual
  8. When using vsync and having my gpu at only 35-40% usage maximum the recordings still lag and stutter.
  9. For Rainbow Six Siege the only in game fps cap that I can find is turning vsync on so that the frames cap at my refresh rate (165). The stuttering still happens, I usually play siege on all high or ultra but have since set all settings to medium or lower.
  10. I have, his videos were some of the few things I did in order to prep for streaming to twitch. Following his advice and copying his settings give me the same issues as before, the pixelation has gone away but the stuttering has stayed. He does say that settings are different for every person but a baseline would be greatly appreciated.
  11. Didn't know where this topic should go so I'll just drop it here My Machine: i9 9900k RTX 2070 16GB DDR4 3200mhz Asus ROG MAXIMUS XI Hero (wifi) I built my current machine not too long ago with some of the best parts that were out at the time (sadly I got my 2070 before the Super lineup). This little beast has been able to provide me with endless hours of entertainment playing all the games that I want at high or ultra settings with little difficulty. However, recently I wanted to push my system, one of the main reasons I chose the i9 was because I wanted to get into streaming my games on Twitch. With that goal in mind I downloaded Streamlabs Obs and decided to give it a try. After doing some brief setup within streamlabs and testing my settings by recording an FPS (Rainbow Six Siege) I noticed that the recording was very pixelated and stuttering every few seconds. I used both Nvenc (new) and x264 encoding, both of them produced the same results. When upping the recording bitrate to 25000 the pixelation decreased but the recording would still stutter and freeze from time to time. I know basing streaming quality off of the recording quality is not what I should be doing but I'm having trouble finding optimal settings for my setup. On paper my machine should be able to record and stream with no problems at all. While using Nvidia Shadowplay for instance my recordings and streams are buttery smooth with no pixelation whatsoever, but using streamlabs I do not get such a result. Anything im doing wrong here? What are the optimal settings for recording and streaming?
  12. Yes I’m pretty sure it’s plugged into the gpu, I plugged it in for him. It seems like it’s using the gpu as a pass through rather than as a dedicated graphics card
  13. Recently helped a friend build a pc and after some initial problems with his ssd not showing up in the boot menu I was able to get it to boot windows 10 home. Initial boot was weird as it almost always goes to the bios but it does let me boot off the m.2 ssd when I click on it. Once I got it running I installed Nvidia GeForce Expierence and download the latest drivers. However the pc does not show that he is using his RTX 2070 but rather shows that the onboard graphics Intel 630 UHD is being used and his Nvidia control panel doesn’t show up.
  14. I’ll try the increased voltage once I get back but I doubt I harmed anything in the system. If the problem can’t be settled here I am likely going to take the system to my local micro center.
  15. I have not (away from the pc at the moment) but if I want to dial back the overclock for troubleshooting purposes shouldn’t the auto mode on the mobo take care of the rest like it did in the past?
  16. Yes when I didn’t overclock it the cpu boosted to 4.7 and was stable hitting only around 60-65c which was fine but I did overclock it to 4.9 which also ran perfectly.
  17. Interesting, I know the i9 is a little beast of a chip but the doesn’t explain why I’m still not able to reach the 250 FPS I used to be able to.
  18. Gpu hovers around 90% usage while the cpu is around 50-60% usage. For me this is normal and it has been this way since I built it which shouldn’t warrant the sudden FPS drop.
  19. Thank you, I don’t know what the issue could be and I’m almost certain I didn’t fry anything as the I didn’t change the voltage until after the crash. Further I a am currently at 0.986v in the bios so I don’t thing my minute change should have damaged anything.
  20. Maybe but what could t have fried? Like I said I only changed the voltage today from the auto 0.925 to 0.930. Further, I’m currently on 0.986 in the bios reading.
  21. Everything seems to be working fine and temps don’t go above 70c. Nothing should be fried as I didn’t up the voltage at all (until it crashed in which I changed the voltage from 0.925 to 0.930) then after that didn’t boot I changed everything back to auto. Really hope it’s not the mobo or any other fried component cause my return policy windows are closed
  22. My mobo is the asus rog Maximus xi hero WiFi
  23. Recently built my dream pc with an RTX 2070 and an i9 9900k. As is popular with the i9 I started to overclock it after using the pc for about a month without overclocking. For about 3 days I overclocked it from its boost clock of 4.7 to 4.9 with no issues reaching 250 FPS in rainbow six siege, after that for one day I overclocked it to the famed 5.0 ghz with no issues until today. Today marks the second day of the cpu running at 5ghz and halfway into a siege match it crashed and gave me a blue screen. No problem, I got plenty of overclocking blue screen problems with my old pc so I decided to dial back the overclock to the stable 4.9. However, now I only reach around 100-120 FPS in siege with no discernible fix. All graphics setting are the same, preformed a cmos clear and even got rid of any overclock and it still only gets 100fps. Help is greatly appreciated.
  24. Thank you for the help though!
  25. Uhhh, a little awkward but I got it to work, it was posting to my other monitor (which is also my tv which I usually keep off) without me realising it.
