  1. Lmao, they do dont they. They might be right, though not sure why LG would make a laptop from carcinogenic materials lol
  2. So what I gathered from all your replies: The specs are an overkill for basic tasks There are better value travel laptops with lesser screen sizes (i forgot to mention that it will be both a travel laptop and a main one for her so big screen is important ) This is probably the best choice if I want a slim 17 inch. I will think some more since I have a few more weeks until I make the decision. I might still buy this one even if its overkill, it looks good and has a good big screen with low weight Thanks for all your help
  3. Wow, i had no idea about health and safety concerns surrounding it! Thanks for pointing that out. I guess a 15 inch would do as well, but she said she preffers 17 inch for watching movies and stuff. Another thing that attracted me to the gram 17 is that it looks premium and has low weight. I will check out some more laptops with a lesser screen size, but 15inch is probably the lowest I'd go
  4. Tbh, 15inch is perfect for me, but she wants the biggest screen possible with with low weight. Edit: she wants a 17inch because it's gonna be used a lot for watching movies. If it has 9 hours of battery (like it says it does) then that's good enough
  5. Yeah it has to be 17inch, thats what im struggling with the most (finding a slim 17 inch laptop). Exactly that, youtube and Netflix and word documents and browsing the web and mail. Ok cool, even 3 years is good enough (I guess). Support wont matter as much since she will do pretty basic tasks with the computer. LG's official gram 17 build has only 1 configuration with i7 and 16gb ram. I guess those are configured differently by different sellers, not by LG. Thanks for the advice on checking where the seller is from
  6. 5 years is good enough, decent time tbh. I was willing to spend more on Lg gram 17 because it's a 17inch that's good for travel (that's the main point of why I want to buy it). As far as i could tell, this is the best 17inch for travel.
  7. Hello, I want to buy an LG gram 17 for my mother. It's gonna be for travel and for media and for typing documents. Is the i7-8565U, 16GB RAM for 1450 dollars an overkill for just that? I say probably, but I guess it's still worth it just for future proofing and because it's so slim? Is it a good laptop for over-time? I want it to last 10 years or more. Another question: There are Lg gram 17 models on ebay with i5 procesors and 8gb ram. Are those fake? As far as I know LG released only 1 model of Gram 17. Thanks for all the help in advance! Also feel free to suggest me other laptops with a good battery, good screen and that are light and slim if you think they are better than LG gram 17.
  8. Personally I'd get a 1440p 27 inch or a 1080p 24 inch. Is 27'' too big for 1080p, in my opinion yes, but some people say that it's not. 1440p is more future proof but it also needs a lot better GPU if you want good fps.
  9. Thanks for the advice, seeing that the price difference is not huge yeah I'll get a 2070 for sure. Do prices drop heavily when new stuff comes out? I'd rather pay less than more so that's a good advice as well. I'm gonna wait
  10. Oh sorry, I meant 1070ti not 2070, it was recommended to me by someone here but it was like 6 months ago. My budget is 1500 dollars for sure, the only thing is: is it worth it to get a new ryzen cpu? I dont wanna spend for something that I dont really need. But it would be future proof anyway so thats good. Edit: Just checked and 1070ti and 2070 are almost the same price, hmm
  11. Well, my budget is pretty much maximum around 500 dollars for a CPU and I'll get a GTX 2070ti (thats a solid choice for 1440p gaming, right?). I already have a case but it's small and messy so I will buy that too. Budget for the case: around 150 dollars. Also a power supply, yeah (if it doesn't come with the case, dont they usually come together?) Im willing to spend lots of money now and have this system for years.
  12. The thing is, I dont know anything about mobos and CPUs except that not all fit. Just bought a 2tb SSD and 16gb ram this month so next month I will either get a new case or make a new post here to see which combinations are the best for gaming cpus and mobos (1440p monitor 75hz). (B450 + 2700x combo seems good, I'll keep that in mind). I dont necessarily want to upgrade to the newest version that will come.
  13. Oh yeah I'll defintely wait a month, I've spend my monthly budget already by buying a bunch of new things thanks for the advice
  14. I didnt turn on XMP bcs there is no option I see, I thought that might be it. Thanks for clearing up the confusion, im gonna put a new motherboard on the list of upgrades.
