  1. Seems like the 10400f is cheaper here at £124.99, what motherboard would you recommend?

I came up with the part list above and needed help on choosing a motherboard and whether it's best to go for ATX or mini-ATX. Also need advice on a case and GPU. He currently has an old prebuilt desktop with a Radeon 6670 on it. I also have a GTX 470 I could use but not sure if it's better. He mostly plays esports titles like Valorant and Fortnite and does his school work on it. He has 1080p 60Hz monitor so that is the target. Would the 6670 or 470 be ok for that? Should I look for a used 970 or something? Any advice appreciated
  3. Forgot to mention, after this happened the PC would turn on, back off and turn on again in a loop. Fans would spin, turn off then spin again in a loop. This loop happened like 3 times and then it turned on but with the VGA debug LED on.

  5. So I built a new PC and here are the components: - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X - ASUS X570 TUF GAMING PLUS - 32GB Corsair Vengeance RAM 3600MHz - MSI RTX 3080 GAMING X TRIO 10G I built the PC and it posted fine, moved on to installing windows and installing all windows updates, chipset drivers, GPU drivers etc. Then I went on to benchmarking to make sure everything is fine. I downloaded 3DMark, Heaven benchmark 4.0 and SOTTR to benchmark the GPU. Here is the problem, with the GPU running all stock settings, it would crash and give me a black screen on any of the benchmarks above. None of them were completed once. On the screen, I would get a few artifacts and straight into a black screen. The PC would then either recover and go back to windows desktop or it would get stuck in the black screen and restart on its own. After this, I went online to seek some answers. Seems like people also had this problem and it could be due to drivers issue or stability issues. Things I've tried: - Tried underclocking the GPU. Doing this meant that the benchmarks would run for longer, but eventually it would still give me a black screen and restart. - Then I saw that it needs 3 individual 8pin PCIe cables. At the time I was only using 2 cables, 1 with the splitter so the GPU still had all the power. After plugging the 3rd individual PCIe, the result was the same. On one of the 3DMark runs, it crashed again. Artifacts into a black screen. But this time at the end it gave me a loud BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR noise and I shut down the PC. Then I tried to turn it on again and I wouldn't post anymore. On the motherboard the VGA debug LED was on. Meaning there was a problem with the GPU. I have an RTX 2080 on another PC, and I plugged it in and posted. Then ran all the benchmarks and everything seems to run fine. I have individually tested the CPU, RAM, PSU and other components on another PC and they all seem to work. So everything seems to point to the GPU. Does this mean my 3080 is faulty? How can I fix this?
  6. Hi, I have completed my new PC build. However, I ran into some issues with the graphics card. After completing the build and installing Windows 10 and all of the required drivers for my components, I installed benchmarking applications to make sure everything is running correctly. I installed 3DMark, Heaven Benchmark 3.0 and Shadow of the Tomb Raider to test the graphics card is fine. When running 3DMark, it would crash and give me a black screen on the monitor. This would then make the PC restart and go into windows again. The results were the same with Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Heaven Benchmark. None of the benchmarks were completed. On one of the 3DMark runs, the computer made a BRRRRRRR noise and shut down completely. After that, the PC would not post at all. On the motherboard, the VGA LED was on, meaning there was a fault with the graphics card. I installed a RTX 2080 that I previously had, and the computer booted fine. I then ran all the benchmarking applications on this graphics card and they all ran fine and completed. I believe the RTX 3080 is faulty. There shouldn't have been any problems when running the benchmark applications if the graphics card weren't faulty. I have tested every single component on another PC and they all seem to be working fine. Here is a complete part list of the PC: https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/r9pp4d What can I do to fix this? I made a ticket on MSI's website but I am waiting for a reply.
  7. Ok I will leave it till the morning. No the CPU and RAM are not installed. The only things connected are the 24-pin cable and the CPU cable.
  8. Yes I made sure the file name is MSI.ROM and I also checked it was formatted to FAT32. I am trying to flash the BIOS one last time as I am writing this. It is in the correct USB port. But it’s already been around 40 minutes and both USB and flash BIOS LED are still flashing. Should I leave it overnight? And then process an RMA if it’s still not working?
  9. I recently purchased an MSI MAG B550 Tomahawk. I wanted to pair it with a 5800X. So I’m trying to flash the bios using a USB but have been unsuccessful. The flash bios led keeps blinking forever and the CPU debug led is also permanently on for some reason. I have looked up solutions online and tried everything. Tried different usbs, cleared cmos using the jumper. Cleared cmos by taking out the battery (I left the battery out for 1h). After all of that it’s still the same result. The build would not post. GPU and fans would light up but just end up with a black screen. Now I’ve also tried putting in a 3700X that I borrowed from a friend to see if I would post, and it still doesn’t post at all. Debug CPU led still lights up with the 3700X. I have ran out of ideas. Is it a faulty motherboard? I have tested every other component on a different PC and they all work fine. So I’m pretty sure it’s the motherboard that’s the problem but just wanted to make sure.
  10. @lee32uk @Bearmann @trevb0t is this a good deal? its cheaper than the 2070 super I was gonna wait for 2080 super but came across this https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07JBXV2XQ/?tag=pcp0f-21&th=1
  11. So it's been a while... I've looked at many different benchmarks and I've decided on the Ryzen 7 3700X. Also I'm not sure whether I should go for 3600 RAM instead of 3200. Should I go for a B450/X470 motherboard to allow for 3600 RAM?
  12. so zen 2 got announced.. could I fit the 12 core cpu somehow ? at a £1500 budget, since idk if the 3800X will be better (gaming wise) this is what im looking at rn PCPartPicker Part List Type Item Price CPU Intel - Core i7-9700K 3.6 GHz 8-Core Processor £367.98 @ Aria PC CPU Cooler ARCTIC - Freezer 34 eSports DUO CPU Cooler £36.99 @ Amazon UK Motherboard Gigabyte - Z390 GAMING X ATX LGA1151 Motherboard £126.86 @ CCL Computers Memory Corsair - Vengeance RGB Pro 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 Memory £109.98 @ CCL Computers Storage Western Digital - Caviar Blue 1 TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive £35.58 @ Aria PC Video Card Zotac - GeForce RTX 2080 8 GB Video Card £643.48 @ Ebuyer Case Fractal Design - Meshify C ATX Mid Tower Case £79.22 @ Aria PC Power Supply Corsair - TXM Gold 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply £68.97 @ CCL Computers Custom upHere Sleeved Cable - Cable extension for power supply with extra-sleeved 24 PIN 8PIN 6PIN 4+4 PIN 500mm Length With COMBS, White(19.7 inch/ 50CM) £27.99 @ Amazon UK Prices include shipping, taxes, rebates, and discounts Total £1497.05 Generated by PCPartPicker 2019-05-30 17:48 BST+0100
  13. One question, will that cooler handle the 9700K at 4.9GHz? I plan on enabling the multicore enhancement setting to put all cores at max turbo
  14. so i was looking at my options and i came across something interesting looking at this on gpucheck it says that the Ryzen 7 2700x is a bottleneck? it is the same with a 2060 or 2080 looking at youtube comparisons it also seems that the Ryzen 7 outputs less frames compared to the i7 (8C/16T vs 6C/12T) why is this the case? is it the clock speed?
  15. wow thank you for that list what about this? 16. I do light video editing every now and then with my recorded gameplay but nothing too serious. I use vegas pro 14 for that The Cooler Master H500 is £30 more expensive here in the UK than the NZXT H500 and the mesh version is £60 more expensive. I will not be overclocking the 9700K since it already runs at 4.6GHz on all core turbo and that's good enough for me which is why I went with the Quad Lumi cooler instead of water cooling or a Dark Rock Pro 4 (also ive never actually overclocked before lol) So the NZXT case should be ok? The Corsair RM750x White is £125 here so I save money by using cable extensions and the Aorus Pro wifi is £50 more expensive than the board I picked ? I'm aware the Aorus board has better VRMs but again I won't be overclocking so I should be fine there as well
  17. @LukeSavenije @Daniel Z. doesn't the 2080 perform better? from what i've read the 16GB vram will almost never get utilised and havent seen many good reviews on it also I use shadow play (a lot)
  18. yes I will wait until zen 2 comes out and see what it has to offer as for the 2080, I do plan on moving on to 1440p 144hz and since the 2080 was within my budget rn I thought why not. however i wont be doing that any time soon, so maybe a 2060 would be enough and then upgrade later? not sure
  19. I see, I was not aware of that, perhaps i could save some money on those new cpus (assuming they're cheaper than the 9700k) thanks
  20. I am planning to order the parts within the next month or two, so I'm not in a rush
  21. Hi, I am planning my first build and I need some advice on my parts selection. I will be mostly be gaming on this build with some video editing and streaming. I currently have a 1080p 144hz monitor and I'd like to play games such as Shadow of the Tomb Raider and Witcher 3, as well as esports titles. I'd like to play at pretty high settings with 144 fps to get the most out of my monitor. My budget is around £1500 (i live in UK) and since this is my first ever build I'd like some advice. I'd be open to change some components as long as it is within my budget. Also, I already have an SSD which is why it is not included in the list.
