So, in January my friend showed me the $69 gaming PC video and I decided to set out and build a cheap rig to call my own. Instead of choosing the same exact parts as Linus did, I went with different specs. I bought and old workstation (Dell Optiplex 790 slim) for around $90, which came with 8gb RAM, an intel i3 dual core processor, and a power supply. I got a monitor from my uncle, and the build was looking fine. I ordered a EVGA GeForce 750 ti and as I expected it wouldn't fit. The case was too small and the card was too long. So I bought an extender like in Linus's video, except the first one I got was for $9, but there were 2 issues. A) It was looong. B) It would crash the computer every few minutes. So I bought a new one that worked just fine, except that the card would sit on the edge of the tower while it was on its' side.
The problem I face is that the tower is always open. The card is always exposed face up, and the extender makes the card sit on the edge, meaning that dust, pet hair, and just about anything that would accumulate over time. I leave the computer for a few hours and come back to see the heatsink in the graphics card is covered in dust, and that the inside is getting dusty. My only thoughts were to get my hands on a single profile, single slot GPU to allow the case to close, but after some research I think that none of the cards like GT 1030 or any of AMD's single slot cards would fit due to the motherboard and case having specific size prevents that. I need some advice or solutions to help me somehow get that case to close.
Note: I'm not modifying the case or card, since selling them once i've got something better. (which will be a while)
