  1. Well I can wait, I was going to wait til Christmas anyways, but I was unsure of what to get, my 6870 1GB can still play a lot of my games at high, and my girlfriend is getting it to play Sims 4 after I have done with it. Also AMD runs better in terms of FOSS drivers, I dont like to use Catalyst inside Linux because it normally cannot update when the distro needs to update the kernel (Arch Linux) also Nvidia FOSS drivers suck balls in terms of performance, and I can use QEMU/KVM with AMD as far as I know Nvidia cant do PCI Passthrough also. What about the 285? that any good, if not may wait til 280X drops at the next gen switch Thanks!
  2. Okay so with The Witcher 3, GTA V and new borderlands coming out, I feel its time for a new GPU, so I am looking at a GPU that is around £200 or under, I want to also do some light video editing and rendering, this will be because I want to use OBS to record some gameplay footage. I am currently looking at both AMD R9 280X 3GB or AMD R9 270X 4GB, but I am unsure on which to get and which is better for the future, I would prefer to not upgrade the GPU for around 3/4 years minimum, so I was thinking the bigger frame buffer would be better. So which GP would you prefer, I do prefer AMD because I use Linux from time to time, But Nvidia would be okay if its price/performance over an AMD counter part is worth it. Thanks!
  3. Okay so my girlfriend has a Fujitsu Lifebook laptop (I dont remember the model) anyways it has core i3 and 2GB RAM and 500GB HDD (Moving her to an 840evo soon) but I was looking at winreducer and wondering what it is like? she only does stuff like office and web browsing with Chrome, so what services could I remove to keep it running decently but lightweight, as her current 8.1 install is rather sluggish even after tune-ups. Thanks!
  4. Ok so here are some specs for a good Adobe machine, im not very good at workstation machines, i build gaming machines mainly Rule - Money no object! CPU - Intel Xeon E5 2687W Dual One of these is a fast bugger for rendering, so hows about 2 of them? 3.1Ghz 8 Cores 16 threads and a turbo freq of 3.8Ghz make this rather fast for a CPU with 8 cores. Heat maybe an issue compared to i7 3770k or 3960/70k but still gaming is a side note on here. Motherboard - Asus Z79PE D8 WS Dual socket motherboard from ASUS, i like ASUS over almost any other mobo brand even though i use a G1 Sniper M3 has x3 SSD Cache although personally id use RAID1/0 for the storage, you can still cache ur mass drives and have them fast 30GB min for onboard cache it has x7 PCI-E3 slots, now i will not be adding 7 690s or 7990 or whatever lol, impossible although would look rather cool as a picture lol, anyways having this allows for maximum speed when gen3 is fully working with everything so the max speed is reached etc 8 DIMM slots, more RAM the better for Premiere CS6 and a lot of other programs GPU - x2 ASUS 680 4GB or x1 690 4GB Im more pushed towards the 680 for looks, but the 690 is still beautiful in its way, the 680 also can be hyrdo from EVGA but thats only a 2GB flavour why pick this? CUDA is the only reason, personally i love both AMD and Nvidia but Nvidia are just better to me and PhysX is just a nice option but more CUDA the faster Adobe will work with render, it loves CUDA and for that reason only these cards, if on a tigher budget get x2 670s they are just as good :) Sound Card - ASUS Xonar Essence STX Solid sound card, monster in its own class so to speak, even if you are doing nothing than other than listening to music on a workstation GET THIS CARD!! sound cards are just so much better than onboard. If you do gaming videos then get it for better sound in the game and when watching your videos back :) Case - 900D for madness, Cosmos 2 if building now. since i saw linus video with the 900D i loved it, the space in that is stupid :) wish i could put an ITX inside the case, would be rather funny. Anyways the 900D is a massive case, just for the sake of more radiators etc not released yet tho so if you want this, wait around :) or wait for linus to get one and review it. The Cosmos 2 is a monster case motherboards are mounted differently in this so if you like to stand out, here you go, but this case is massive i mean massive. SSD - OCZ Octane (SATA3) I prefer SATA drives over PCI, the motherboard picked could easily support a PCI card, but i like mounting the SSDs in weird places, so im picking this due to my personal opinion if i was going for flat performance then id get a Revo x2 drive. the setup would be in RAID1/0 (4 Drives) all at 480GB then id have a cache storage drive with a 60GB SSD or onboard 30GB SSD Mass Storage - Seagate Barracuda 3TB x3 May aswell fill up the drive cage for giggles, so ill go with x3 3TB drives from Seagate, i have a 500GB inside my system now at 7200RPM no issues, there brilliant drive makers. 7200RPM always over 5400RPM just for speed. Store all my files (Images Adobe projects etc) on here ready for youtube. CPU Cooler- Watercooling or NZXT Kraken x60 Push Pull - Noctua NF P14 x4 Watercooling setup if you wish, personally i like all in one coolers and i dont ruin my looks of GPUs with this setup So Kraken, just like the H100i is a monster for cooling, works well with OC, personally i hear Xeons are not good for OC so just having this in the case for looks is good :) have the Noctua in push pull, just keep an eye on them for dust, clean the system monthly to every few months RAM - Kingston BEAST Fast with the speed, 2400Mhz and CL11 so good all around, id get maybe 32GB+ not cheap RAM but tbh with no cash objects just go for it, if not this Corsair Dominator or the Mushkin Black (I shall continue this later as i have to leave for now, most of the parts do post your ideas below!!!)
  5. Hey Community!!!! So i started using Adobe over Vegas 12 pro, i like vegas pro just always liked Adobe over it. But the lack of OpenCL support in Premiere is worrying, is there any information on if it will ever be released for windows? I know its on mac because they only supported AMD at a time with the laptops. I plan to upgrade to a n700 gfx when they land and the specs have been given and benchmarks etc but for now is there a way to speed up the renders? Quicksync maybe? Thanks in advance!!
  6. i like Oracle Virtual Machine, VMWare is also good, but i dont use that outside of training for security
  7. Ok so could be a number of things I cant say exactly, but maybe due to installing with multiple HDDs connected to the mobo at once, always install with 1 drive on unless going for RAID. Bootloader files etc can go on other drives so hence the 1 drive install Check the boot settings within the BIOS maybe an issue there, couldnt say that it was but its worth checking is ur SSD running in AHCI mode? Try flashing a new BIOS update they normally resolve a lot of issues :) there just some ideas i come up with on the fly :)
  8. ur gpu maybe on blink? what specs have you got? have you checked for malware? dodgy install on windows or part gone corrupt, do a startup repair for that part. If ur GPU is dead or dying replacing it is only way really.. Maybe a conflict with hardware parts and drivers has happened to me before Have you installed anything new recently or been on any dodgy sites? Worst comes to worst with OS reinstall it, could fix a lot of issues also :)
  9. Chrome and Firefox, for android i use Opera. Chrome - very fast and secure, best security browser around from what i read also good addon support Mozilla - 2nd in line for when Chrome isnt working for me, also firebug is an epic addon Opera Mini - small and fast browser, brilliant on low devices and loads at server side over client side so less data use and faster :)
  10. OSX is good, for editing such as videos etc, but tbh the hardware ecosystem on it is awful, no recent support for the big macs, and there over priced, i love the screens but again £900 for a screen :O i like to do gaming videos, so OSX would be useless to me personally, and i think linus hasnt built one because most stuff on there is aimed at gamers, most systems NCIX does is gaming setup or basic home use, Macs are not needed in that sense, until games come on apple i doubt we shall see one from Linus, Logan maybe doing one tho soon, couldnt say personally, would be cool for linus to do one tho :)
