    Hey all, just wanting to throw this out there before I decide to tangle up the funds in attempting this. I'm uncertain as to whether or not the X370 Gaming Pro Carbon (http://www.msi.com/Motherboard/X370-GAMING-PRO-CARBON/Specification) is actually compatible with 128GB RAM. Or 2x32GB for that matter. My buddy gave me his old board, and I'm contemplating maxing out the RAM. The MSI website says it supports 128GB, but PCPartpicker says 64GB. Also, I'n not even sure what CPU's will support 128GB other than either the Pro versions or Ryzen 9 chips. Thanks!

    Yes, that would work, but not with what I am going for. I need to actually convert it, as anything other than the current switch would ruin the whole look of the PC.

    So, I'm wanting to build a Sleeper PC. I've got parts figured out for the most part, but one thing that has me stumped is how to utilize the old style rocker switches from way back when as a power button. Of course they were the actual 'power' switches, but now it's just an electronic switch that signals the PC to boot up from a dormant state more or less. Basically I need a way to make a rocker switch into a temporary switch, so that it does not shut the PC off immediately after getting turned on. If this is possible, I'd really appreciate the help. Thanks!

    Hey all, recently bought a stick of 16GB HyperX off of eBay for a Ryzen build I’ve been planning for a while. The listing said used but tested working. However, it does not work. It does not boot whatsoever, tested on two motherboards with a known working Ryzen 5 1600. I paid with PayPal, so perhaps I should go that route for buyer protection? I’m currently in contact with the seller.

    Ouch. I would seriously look into a beefier CPU and more RAM before adding a GPU. I'm 99.9% sure that the reason it keeps crashing is because of the extremely low RAM available. What motherboard do you have?

    I’d get a 1050ti for it. I use Blender quite a bit and it handles things pretty good, unless you start to work with a more RAM dependent scene. They’re pretty well priced now (I was able to trade old components for mine, though that won’t work for everyone of course) and delivers about the same power as my 960 but with 4GB RAM vs. 2GB. When you say it crashes, what exactly happens? Do you run out of RAM perhaps? If so, it might be be more worth upgrading to 16GB instead. It may be slower rendering but at least you can handle a larger scene.

    Went with the Enthoo Pro. I had ordered the RISE first, as it was on sale, but then found out there’s only 3 HDD bays so returned it. The Enthoo is so much nicer, cable management is a dream, there’s tons of HDD bays, more 5.25’s, build quality is quite a bit better, and much better fan/rad mounting options.

    Managed to find a video online. For future reference to anyone interested: Download BIOS files Use Rufus to create a FreeDOS bootable USB/SD Move extracted BIOS files onto disk at root level Boot to USB/SD Type "DIR" then hit enter Type "ami *BIOS Filename*" Example, in my case it was 'AMI X8DTH2.504' Hit enter. BIOS will flash. Shut off power to machine Open BIOS settings, load optimized defaults, save and exit. Note: you may need to change boot mode from UEFI to Legacy if you're board doesn't want to boot to the USB. Personally I didn't need to do it though. Reference video: (WARNING, it is rather cringeworthy, but helps regardless.)

    Yes, I need help updating BIOS. I've done it before, but the way it's done on this board is not the same as consumer boards lol. The reason I'm needing to update is that I'm wanting to use (dual) Xeon X5650's, but the current BIOS level does not support them. It's at a meager rev1.0. I've gotten it to boot with a spare X5560, and can access BIOS features and boot to Windows no problem with it.. Now, going by SuperMicro's instructions, I need to boot to a DOS (command prompt doesn't work with Windows 10) so I've installed FreeDOS on a HDD and attempted to use that to issue the commands but when I enter what they say to do, it doesn't work. I'm likely doing something wrong there as I have very little to no experience operating with DOS.     Depends on what you want. Personally I just use an optical disk because I didn't want to use up a USB, but you generally can't reuse those when you need an update done.

    I was looking online, at it appears that if I take the display panel out I can potentially wire it to a DP cable, as once it goes through the Thunderbolt port it comes right down to a DP connection. Might be kinda fun too... Another thing I may wind up doing is getting a 3rd party controller board.

    So I just picked up a 27” Mac monitor (1440p) for free since the glass screen cover was wrecked, but it would appear going by online research that I must use an actual Thunderbolt cable rather than DP to use it with a PC? Monitor is working with Thunderbolt from a MacBook Pro, but I wasn’t too sure it’s feasible to use DP. Online research does not look promising, but I figured I’d ask anyways. Thanks!

    Oh, thank you very much! I was a bit skeptical on some “E-ATX” model cases really fitting it. I had an EVGA board that had triple channel RAM and was classified as an E-ATX mobo. Needless to say it was quite small in comparison to the SuperMicro lol. You have helped me greatly, likely saving me a headache or two. Thanks!
