just found a G5 case pre-modded to fit an atx mobo for around $60.. too bad mine is still gathering dust until i find the time and money to work on it

Nice! I too just picked up a G5 the other day. Have big plans for it. Was $80 with original functional hardware. Considering most people around here still think these things are worth $350+, I think it was a good deal. And wow, they are huge! Makes my S340 look small. So much potential and so many possibilities though...

I know, right? I was just measuring stuff for the mod a few minutes ago, now I'm sanding the handles to paint them black just to have an idea of how it will look like I also am going to cut some plexi tomorrow for a very important part of it .. BTW, I want to make the motherboard tray out of plexi too, but I need to come up with a way to mount it inside, any ideas?

I have an idea for what that plexi is for. As for the mobo tray, you could maybe mount it using the existing standoffs and then install new standoff in the plexi tray for the new mobo? You'd have to see just where it would have to sit and take into account the thickness of the plexi. Are you going to use one of those ATX rear I/O conversion kit brackets for the back?

Actually, I am only using the main chassis/mid piece and the handles, the part that connects the top and bottom is gone that will be replaced by plexi and will be removable, for easier cable management, just like a normal case I am going to use the rear IO from an old case and the front+back grilles will be cut and replaced with plexi(with metal spacers in the front )

Sounds quite ambitious! Can't wait to see this take form. You will be starting a build log thread, right? Are you planning to do custom loop water cooler or stick with good old air?
Don't want to give away too much about my G5 build plans because I can pretty much guaranty it will be the only one with such an interior layout (still not finalized yet). It will have a custom side panel window, that much I don't mind revealing.
