  1. What sort of performance increase could you get from swapping from the 1700x to either the 3700x or 3900x. I know its not going to be a lot but will it also include the extra pci lanes? Not looked into that recently but I'm sure I can get some more. I could be very wrong though
  2. My current setup is a ryzen 1700x with a 1080 gtx. The motherboard is a ASUS ROG x470-f Gaming. The question is do I upgrade the CPU to a either the ryzen 3700x or 3900x? I don't have many high multi-threaded tasks, mostly gaming. I also don't know whether it will be worth upgrading the MOBO to x570 even though I know my MOBO is compatible with the 3rd gen ryzen. Any advice would be appreciated.
  3. Update: I bought new RAM that is on the QVL of my MOBO and clocks to 3200 as described. Now obviously the RAM was the issue but the RAM I had previously was on that list also, I guess it was just faulty RAM. Anyway thank you for your help everyone and hopefully if anyone else is having the same problem they can get some answers here
  4. I tried every frequency between 2133 and 3000 with DOCP enabled. I know the timings will be wrong for those frequencies but just gonna try everything at this point. I may buy new RAM and try it and if that doesn't work just return it. If anyone else has any other advice I would be grateful, I will also let you know how this goes in case someone else is having the same problem.
  5. Tried the DOCP on and set to 2933 but still boots in safe mode. I dont think it is the MOBO because, I had this same problem with my previous MOBO, while still possible, its unlikely to be a problem with both mobos. CPU could be the problem as I had this CPU in the old MOBO, just hoping it's not cause I wanted to wait till 3rd gen ryzen came out to upgrade so I get a more significant upgrade.
  6. First thing I did was flash the Bios. I'll try the turning on DOCP and setting the frequency to 2933, I just know that AMD do prefer speeds above 3000.
  7. I am having problems with my RAM. I have corsair vengeance 3000mhz RAM (ddr4). Base speed is 2166mhz. This is where the problems come up, when I try and set it to the XMP profile, or D.O.C.P profile cause I am using an AMD board (ROG Strix x470-f) I don't have the XMP profile. When I set it to the profile my PC doesn't post and goes into safe boot post. I have tried setting the times manually and taking off my overclock that I have on my CPU. I have a EVGA 650w 80+ gold PSU so I definitely have enough power. I have had this problem before I swapped to the new motherboard so guessing I need to replace the RAM but thought I would get some advice first. PC spec: Ryzen 1700x ROG strix x470-f corsair vengeance 16gb ddr4 3000mhz Gtx 1080 EVGA 650w 80 plus gold Any advice would be good and hopefully I don't need to replace the RAM cause RAM is expensive.
  8. Thank you everyone for your help. Not going to buy any parts for the PC, may get a monitor cause then it would just be more beautiful Thank you
  9. Got a 60% mechanical keyboard with cherry mx brown switches and then a corsair scimitar mouse because I have gone 12 buttons and can't go back
  10. Sorry yea I forgot to mention hard drives. I don't think I need to upgrade them as I have a 500gb nvme m. 2 drive and then a 4tb hhd with a couple spare SSDs that I found
  11. I have been wanting to upgrade my PC but unsure what would make the biggest impact. In all honesty I don't need to upgrade it at all as it runs games perfectly. Here is a list of my specs at the moment. Asus rog strix x470-f motherboard corsair vengeance 16gb ddr4 3000mhz RAM Gtx 1080 Ryzen 1700x EVGA 650w 80+ gold PSU 144hz monitor at 1920x1080 resolution The upgrades I would like to make are either replace that ryzen with ryzen 2700x or upgrade the monitor to a 144hz qhd monitor. Any suggestions would be great
