  1. Funny, it's actually what I wound up doing. I tried pop OS for a little bit but I really just wasn't feeling the aesthetic and I much happier with Manjaro.
  2. Ima try Pop_OS, the out of the gate drivers for Nvidia sells me, just less work on my end. and till theres a solid competitor to them in the market (at least in my mind), im team green.
  3. I have heard, with the exception of the above comment that manjaro is solid choice. Honestly i really like the look of it too. I have 2 USBs ready to go, 1 Pop_OS and 1 Manjaro at this point. Proton i have used and works great, Lutris i've heard of but havent tried. I wont convert my desktop though till i get ff14 running on the laptop.... so fingers crossed.
  4. Reddit seams to hate the idea must be a good idea then lol
  5. I actually have a dedicated kali machine, i was trying to keep my security Laptop separate from everything else, BUT! having said that, it would make it alot easier to fiddle with new tools and ideas without the need to break out an entirely different device. hmmm, not a bad idea i suppose
  6. So right to the point, outside of work, I'm trying to get away from windows. I do game fairly often as a hobby and have a fair bit of Linux experience and would prefer to use that as my primary OS sooner rather then later. Just searching around the first page of google the most popular choices for this purpose are good ol Ubuntu, Pop_OS, Mint, and Manjaro (Steam OS not an option, needs to function as a Desktop first gaming second). All the listed distros i have used before (Mint the most) but not for gaming. Just wondering if anyone out there has hands on experience they would like to share for which distro to use for gaming.
  7. again ill ask, sadly its not my server and the person that owns its is currently on site.
  8. i can see about getting the screen shot off him, and ill ask about the rest, see what he says.
  9. Trying to help a buddy out, His server has been crashing from time to time for afew months now, its a dell H4ZV243 running unRAID OS. error is: "kernel panic, not syncing" rebooting fixes this issue but only for alittle bit till next crash. the investigating he have gone so far leads him suspect either overheating somewhere(which he says is unlikely as everything is set to notify if it goes over 60C), a ram issue, or bad usb drive. We are really busy at work so if anyone has the time for their 2 cents or is willing to help, please feel free to but in and ask questions. Support for PowerEdge R740 | Overview | Dell US
  10. Good input so far, thanks guys. Seems like CCNA is deff one to go after, another people CEH (or so i've been told, but that requires some experience first). I'm actually in a course for this now as part of my cyber security/digital forensics major. As far as coding languages go, I have a good bit of java under my belt but java seems to be abit dated, I'm defiantly going to be picking up python in the very near future.
  11. Well I'm already doing help desk work, not ideal but its something. The CCNA is another one that was strongly suggested I pursue. I've never personally had issue talking about what it is I know or don't know, but, I need to score the interview in the first place to be given that chance; kinda looking to make that step abit easier.
  12. I wasn't 100% sure where to stick this post, I'm looking for some input from people already in the industry or have experience with information security, mostly about what industry certifications are most important for entry level. I have the CompTIA a+ cert already with exams scheduled for security+ and networking+ as well. I addition to these what else should I consider and are the CompTIA certs as valuable as I've been lead to believe?
  13. I do not, so you maybe on to something there.
  14. huh, I haven't the faintest idea then.... and its not 4 4k monitors ill say that lol, just one asus 2k and 1k to make work easier but same cpu and ram, though i have the older 1070ti card for my main display, however i also use a 1050 to display the image on my second monitor.
  15. Strange indeed, I'm doing roughly the same thing as you yet I don't have that issue, could it be a PSU or power management settings issue? just spit balling ideas but maybe try setting power mode to "prefer maximum performance"?
  16. I tried a list of drivers, overclocking, underclocking, slideclocking (thats a joke), everything i could think of and everything the net could offer... goose egg . maybe i will just have to shelf it for a "just in case" situation.
  17. So we had to replace my buddy's RX 580 as his screen kept going black for a solid second or 2 during gaming every so often, replacement worked thankfully. However now we have a bad card on our hands. We tried every hotfix in the book to get it working to. No we cant return it or anything sadly... and its not that old of a card. Any thoughts on what to do with said card to maybe squeeze some kinda value or something outa it?
  18. I probably should have clarified then, my bad, but it is a boot Drive which I'm now assuming makes a difference...
  19. So I've never had to do this before and wanna check with someone before i do. I need to move all the data on an SSD drive to the a new NVME drive, is there a decent free program i can use to accomplice this, does windows have a built in tool? To people that have done this before, whats the best way to go about it? Edit: IDK if this matter but the drives in question are Samsung, both, an 850 evo going to a 970 evo plus. Edit 2: it's a boot drive.
  20. Title says it all, most of Asus's software is buggy trash tbh. I've tried every hotfix i can find but nothing works, the aura software wont detect my motherboard and i'd really like to be able to customize my RGB. Has anyone else had this issue, did you ever solve it, is there another program is can use that isn't a dumpster fire?
  21. also @Brandon Beckius heres a video showing what i worry about, not enough power to the GPU cause you cant plug a separate power cable into that GPU and it in turn eats to much juice. suggest skipping to like 4 minutes-ish. this is something not fixed with a new PSU its simply a motherboard limitation.
  22. I also found this video for you, now ive seen different article and forums stating the power draw on the PCIe slots is like 35-50 watts max, but this guy shoves a 1050ti in there anyway... and some people have reported doing the same and being fine. I dont wanna promise anything but i dont wanna see you waste money either.
  23. yeah if you can find a dell psu rated for that model computer you can shove it in there.
  24. sadly you need to order special PSUs from dell, they are set up to only be able to use their parts, if you already have the card and the computer... i mean maybe just shove it in there and try, but thats just me.
