  1. thank you for taking the time to answer! Unfortunately, rollback is not the solution. I've nuked one of the machines (for testing purposes), reinstalled OS from scratch and, sure enough, there it was, windows explorer in 2 languages. Only after a few updates though, not in the initial login. The installation is pretty much bare-bones, only a few drivers and utilities were installed (7-zip, pdf readers, visual c++ redistributables, directX, Office applications, etc., nothing too fancy).
  2. Hi there Something strange started happening since last week in my explorer, as outlined in the image below. As you can see, the highlighted text is not following the system language I have set (Portuguese - Portugal). Everything else is as it should be. I noticed this 2 weeks ago, although I can't exactly pinpoint the day. My OS is updated to the latest version available (19044.1526) and all cumulative updates are applied. I've encountered the same issue in all our fully updated PCs in the office, about 14. The only common item between all those PCs is the fully updated Windows 10 Pro, no other component is equal. All Windows installations are OEM and were originally installed in Portuguese (Portugal). I have tried to: Install english language pack, change to english display language, restart, change back to portuguese and restart again. Uninstall english language pack Used DISM tool to restore health to system files Ran sfc /scannow Performed an in-place upgrade of windows using the Media Creation Tool Created a new account to check if the problem manifested in the new account (it does) Activated the Adminstrator account to check if the problem manifested in this account (it does) Uninstalled all the updates from the last month that can be uninstalled (not all updates can be uninstalled though); Do a clean installation of Windows 10 using the Media Creation Tool. (The issue does not manifest immediately, but after a couple of hours and some updates, the issue appears, which leads me to believe that something is wrong with one of the latest windows updates.) Nothing worked. Any ideas on what might be causing this issue? This does not happen anywhere in the OS (e.g. Settings app, old control panel, etc.), but it does happen in the Security Centre, which is all in English, despite all language settings being configured to Portuguese (as mentioned, this is a clean installation, no other language packs are installed): It seems that the OS is simply currently broken in this regard. Thank you in advance!
  3. Hi guys I have a used Asus ROG GTX 1070 Strix with smoke smell. I've dissassembled it completelly, cleaned everything but the heatsink is a bit on the dark side, and has bits of cigarette ash in the middle of the fans of the heatsink that don't come off with air spray. I've already dry cleaned the heatsink as much as possible with compressed air and brushing, but I would like to know if there's a liquid or spray cleaning detergent that I could spray on/dip in the heatsink, in order to bring it back to it's original state, or close. Is is made of aluminum? is it any other material? Has anyone had any experience with this? Thank you Tiago
  4. Yeah, discarded the Asus GTX 1060 3GB and went for an Asus GTX 1070 Strix O8G. I'm good now!....
  5. Yeah, I can get a used 580 8GB for as low as €170, but usually they're more like 180-190. But that does seam a valid option, really. Thank you for the help!
  6. I'm noticing that you're all focusing on the graphics card, which means that the rest of the build is fine, am I right? This one is out of my reach, unfortunately.
  7. not yet, no. I have a deal on hold for €160 (I'm in europe).
  8. Yes, but they aren't much of an upgrage from 1060, apart from VRAM. Processing power is similar. But you're right on one thing, I should be looking into team red offerings in this department...
  9. I already have the case and the motherborad, so the 8th/9th gen are not an option. My question is: is any of the components off-balance among each other? Well, the least ammount possible for the config presented, give or take 10%. I would really like to be able to go for a 1070 TI, but it's almost double the price of 1060 3GB...
  10. Hi all This will be my future gaming rig, if I get the parts second hand : CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-7700 CPU @ 3.60GHz Motherboard: MSI B250M PRO-VD (MS-7A74) RAM: 2x8 GB PC4-17000 DDR4 SDRAM G Skill F4-2133C15-8GNT Video Card: ASUS PHOENIX GTX 1060 3GB SSD (OS): Samsung SSD 850 PRO 256GB SSD (Data): WDC WD10EAVS-22D7B0 Is it capable of runing AAA games in high or ultra settings in 1080p 60fps? I have no interest in overclocking, I just want my system to run smooth. Should I change something on it, provided that I'm on a budget? Cheers Tiago
