  1. Thanks for the responses! The BLUEXIN adapter mentioned above loks like the ticket... but it's plain USB3, not Gen 2. The other single adapter looks good except I'm not thrilled with the idea of drilling a hole to mount that USB-C part. Basically, I'm looking for 1) convenience! The mobo had the 3.1Gen2 port on the back and that's a pain to use. and 2) if I had a media card reader in the case, I wouldn't be "missing" my portable one as much as I have been. (My son "borrows" them and then can't find them. I think he's fencing my card readers on the black market.) I'll keep looking and I hope y'all do as well!
  2. I am building a new computer reusing a Corsair Air 540 case. The motherboard has dual USB3.1Gen2 headers for the front of the case... but this case doesn't have that! I'm looking for a 5.25" front panel insert that has USB3.1Gen2 (USB-C preferred) and, perhaps if possible, a multimedia option (SD card reader?) Have y'all seen anything like this out there or could you point me in the right direction? Thanks!
  3. Change is everything and inevitable. Mobo changed to the MSI MEG Z390 Ace. Any reason not to do this?
  4. OK, This is what I've decided to base the new machine upon. Note: I will be reusing the CPU cooler, case, and power supply of the older build. I don't do long form editing, so the 1TB video drive is good enough for most projects. I backup all projects to my network anyways, so space isn't an issue. What would any of you do differently?
  5. I was planning on M.2 NVMe drives to replace the system and render drives, so that's not a deal breaker. I was also planning on using the existing video drives, but later on swap that out for something else, like either a Thunderbolt3 external array/drive or another M.2 NVMe for the project files. Still researching that one in terms for cost vs. speed.
  6. My budget is around $2000.00US. I plan on purchasing the components in about two months to have the new machine ready for June/July. That's the filmmaking season for me!
  7. Hey y'all! I'm new to the forum, but a subscriber to the channel. I plan on upgrading/updating/replacing my older video editing workstation with something newer and faster. My previous machine: i7-5930K CPU (6-core) Asus X99 Deluxe mobo GeForce GTX 980Ti GPU 64GB Crucial DDR4-2133 RAM Crucial MX100 500GB SSD - System Drive Crucial MX100 500GB SSD - Render/Cache Drive 4x Crucial MX100 500GB SSD's in a RAID 0 for video files. Corsair Air 540 ATX Case NZXT 1000W Hale90 80+ PSU Requirements for the new machine: - edit multiple (at least 3) layers of 4K video on Adobe Premiere Pro CC with no dropped frames - I only need to store current video files on a video drive. (Older projects are offloaded to a network Drobo drive) - Reuse as many parts from older machine as possible! (Will definitely keep PSU, & case. I'm looking at the following: i9-9900K CPU Gigabyte Z390 Designaire mobo 64GB RAM (What flavor???) I'm looking for ideas before I solidify the project and start acquiring the components. Thanks!
