  1. Ah, okay. thanks for the clarification. I'm guessing that means there isn't any issues running the card overclocked, but I might just leave it at undervolting because that noise is veryyy annoying
  2. My GPU is making a clicking/ticking noise when overclocked and I'm curious as to why. Is it another form of coil whine? Is it something I should worry about?. It's a continuous repeated noise that sounds clicking followed by a half-second buzzing sound. I originally suspected the fans but it occurs with the fans in 0 RPM mode as well. I'm doing my overclocking from AMD's Adrenalin software, and I can play with every other dial with no issues (power limit, voltage limit, VRAM frequency) but the second I raise the min/max clock speeds the card starts making the weird clicking noise without me even pressing save changes. 3. What would differentiate a grounding issue from coil whine? The whining only occurs while I'm gaming. When I'm just streaming music, watching music or doing other non-demanding tasks there are no issues. Unfortunately my motherboard does not have a spdif port... I've tried plugging the PC into another outlet on the opposite side of the room but it seems like it still has the issue. It might be on the same circuit or whatever as the other outlet though. I think that's how houses are wired up. I also took the GPU out and ran off of the on-board graphics. Sure enough, no more annoying noises coming through my headphones. I do have a USB DAC in the form of a little dongle, and the whining isn't present there. I could probably just use that but the fact this is a brand new computer and it has this sort of glaring issue makes me feel a bit deflated. I could put up with it, but I don't really feel like I should have to, y'know? This thing wasn't cheap.
  4. The whining from the PC isn't too apparent on the video - it's worse in person. Still though, the whining on the PC is actually not too bothersome for me. I could easily deal with normal coil whine by just keeping the side panel on and putting it under my desk or something, lol. I'll try out the paper thing and see if I can find the source of the whine. I'm fairly sure it's from the GPU though. I'm fairly sure GPU coil whine should not come through my speakers/headphones though, right? that's beyond normal coil whine issues...
  5. So, I think my system has coil whine I can hear buzzing and high-pitched noise when playing games (so I'm assuming it's coming from the GPU, however it isn't too much of an issue with the side panel on. The problem is this coil whine seems to somehow be traveling through the on-board audio and I can hear it through my speakers/headphones, which is a major annoyance. I've since looked up the motherboard I have (Gigabyte Z790 UD AX) and found people reporting it has coil whine issues... I think that the GPU is the source of the noise, however the motherboard is faulty in that it's letting the noise leak into the on-board audio. Anyway, I've tried the following troubleshooting settings: Tried the back audio jacks (I was using the front). The back audio jacks actually have more whining/buzzing, and also when the computer is muted I can still faintly hear audio through things plugged into the back? Installed and updated all drivers, no improvement. Tried using a USB-C to 3.5mm audio jack converter, the whining goes away. Tried turning on "acoustic noise mitigation" in the BIOS, no improvement. Tried undervolting the GPU, no improvement. I only built this PC a week ago and have filed a return request for the motherboard with the place I bought it from, although they don't seem keen on replacing it for me... Of course, I'd prefer to not disassemble my computer and take hours out of my day to take this motherboard back for a tedious return process, so any suggestions on how I can lessen the noise would be much appreciated. Also, I might be completely wrong on what this issue is! Please let me know if so. I've attached a short video of the noise from the computer running Doom Eternal so you can hear the noise I'm talking about. Doom Eternal, Cyberpunk 2077 and Deep Rock Galactic are 3 games where I've noticed the most annoying buzzing/whining. Other games such as Control and Just Cause 3 have less whining and more low pitched buzzing that I can only hear if the volume is muted. If it was all like that, I wouldn't have an issue. 6. Cool, thanks. Might go up to the 13500 given it's only $10 more than the 13400 right now. Black friday sales might even nab something better (or just savings) I've also gone under budget in another part of my setup upgrade, so I have another $150 I'll most likely invest in a nice case. I'm thinking the Fractal Meshify Mini 2
  7. Thanks for the in-depth response! Your parts list at the end is the kind of help I was hoping for. I'm not experienced with PC hardware stuff at all so I really appreciate the help and will probably get the core components you chose (with a more stylish case, perhaps). I've also decided I'll go with 1080p for now. I already have a 1080p monitor (only 60Hz though) I have quite a shallow desk (60cm) so I'm not sure if I'll even benefit from a bigger screen when i sit this close to it. I will eventually get a monitor arm and maybe I can review that then, though. Just a few questions, if I wanted to do any streaming at all would I be better off with the non-F variant of the CPU for its video encoder? Also, from what I read the H5 flow had good airflow with the full mesh front. Where did you find conflicting info? Again, thanks heaps for the help. When black friday comes along in a few weeks I plan to pick this all up and finally move beyond the realm of intel integrated laptop graphics, going to be a huge leap forward for me!
  8. Budget: ~$1500 Australian dollars for the PC itself, another $500 for things like display, peripherals, speakers, etc. Country: Australia Use case: Will be using it mainly for gaming (hopefully at 1440p) but would be nice to have some headroom for potentially streaming. Additionally, this PC will be using wifi because my router is way too far away to realistically use ethernet. I don't play any competitive games so this shouldn't be an issue. Aesthetics: I'd like to go with a white themed PC but I don't know how well that would match with the parts I've chosen... Parts list: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/list/FyWDz6 CPU: Ryzen 5600 - Seems to be the best value CPU in Australia, anything Intel is a huge price increase. Have thought about going with the 5700x for the two extra cores but not sure if I'd need them (and the upgrade + decent CPU cooler would be about a 33% price increase) Motherboard: MSI MAG B550 TOMAHAWK MAX WIFI ATX AM4 Motherboard - Motherboard with WiFi 6E, a front panel USB-C header and good reviews. Cooler: I'm gonna be using the stock cooler. Don't plan to do any overclocking at the moment, so I think I'll get away with this? RAM: G.Skill Ripjaws V 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16 Memory - Cheapest DDR4-3600 CL16 RAM I could get. I've been told this is the sweet spot for Ryzen 5000 Storage: Crucial P5 Plus 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive - Fast NVMe storage, reputabe brand. I have a 1TB Intel 660p NVMe drive on hand that I can chuck in for extra storage, too. GPU: Asus DUAL OC GeForce RTX 3070 8 GB Video Card - Cheapest 3070 I could find, good reviews. It's about 70 aussie dollars to get this over a 3060ti - I think this is worth it? Going with NVIDIA over AMD for DLSS and NVENC. PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower GF1 PE 650 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply - Modular PSU with good reviews, I believe it also has some headroom for future upgrades. Case: NZXT H5 Flow RGB ATX Mid Tower Case - Nice looking case, comes with decent fans from what I've read. For the mouse and monitor, I just chose some placeholders to get a rough value of how much this will end up costing me. I've decided on a keyboard (Keychron V1) but not a mouse or display. Will be going to look at some displays today though! Appreciate any recommendations or part swaps for cost reductions or better value, and thanks for the help!
  9. Thanks for this! After doing more research into the a750 you seem to be right. I'll just have to "settle" for 1440p 60fps it seems (double what i get in most games excluding like, minecraft lol) Definitely liking that CPU+MOBO combo though
  10. Oh, just noticed that Intel CPU seems to be rebadged alder lake??? 13600k smashes it (for a lot more money)
  11. Not really sure about where or even if I will end up streaming, its just something I've been thinking about. I did see the Ark GPU but I was worried about the maturity of the drivers as well as longevity. Would this card be able to comfortably reach 1440p for this years AAA games and the next couple as well? The other upgrades look good though, thanks! Might go with a different case though, maybe the Fractal Design Pop Air? Says the included fans are DC though which I think isn't great? Yeah, the 6700XT seemed to be the best value for 1440p gaming. And yeah I don't play many competitive games, for some background some of my favourites are Nier Automata, Hades, Doom, Portal, Stardew Valley, Minecraft and FTL. Planning to play Doom Eternal, Nier: Replicant, Elden Ring, The Last of Us and more AAA stuff on my new machine. For me high refresh rate would be nice (I have it on my phone and its sooo smooth) but I think I value graphical fidelity more. I'm thinking ill go with Shreshta's recommendations for the most part, although I may go with a different PSU (reviews say its a bit noisy) case (purely aesthetic reasons, Fractal Pop Air maybe) and like I said, I'm a bit nervous about Intel's first-gen graphics cards pushing 1440p. CPU seems a lot faster and the MOBO has nice IO though I actually have a friend with a 2700x, so I was aware and not too worried about this
  12. Hey, thanks for the reply! Some background on pricing: That Intel CPU you mentioned is about $479aud (the 5700x is $309 and a 5600x is $259 respectively, so no Intel for me I don't think) With the GPU, just making sure you know that is Aussie dollars? around 395 USD I believe, which I thought was actually reasonable, although maybe that's just because I'm used to price gouging >.> I did look used and I could get a 2080Ti for ~$500, but it would have to be shipped to me because Australia is huge and no one lives near each other, which makes me nervous given I can't test the card before purchase. I guess ebay policies would protect me but still sounds like a lot of trouble if I get a faulty card, especially if it only starts dying a few months later If I need to go lower on FPS for the sake of saving money that's fine. Right now I play most games at ~30 (switch is basically my primary system) so anything is an upgrade! I think I'd like to keep 1440p though. I've used a 1080p monitor before and I'd like something a bit more crisp. I'd like to have this PC still be running AAA titles for the next 2-3 years though. Going to be honest, I picked that case based on aesthetics alone. I didn't see anything else that really stood out to me, and as long as I don't run a big risk of breaking components in a smaller case I'm happy to spend some time tinkering with it. Smaller form factor would also be nice because I'm going to have it on the desk. It also has a front USB-C port (which i think the mobo has a header for?). I know a wired internet connection is best but I don't have any ethernet ports available, and I'm not too concerned about latency really. I've also installed those cards many times before for laptops so no sweat for me installing one of those in a desktop. I didn't mention this because I don't know how relevant it is, but I have taken apart dozens of laptops at this point and have even repaired a couple (simple issues like bad thermal paste, dead hard drive, etc. but some laptops are a NIGHTMARE to get apart) Probably rambled a bit. Even though you don't have prior knowledge on the Australian market, what GPU would you suggest over a 6700xt? I can check prices. I think a standard 3060 is like $50 more. Additionally, I can get a 5600 for $50 cheaper than a 5600x. I don't really know if there is a big difference between the two, would it be okay to save money there?
  13. Budget: ~$2000 Australian dollars (including accessories) Country: Australia Use case: Will be using it mainly for gaming but would be nice to have some headroom for potentially streaming. I'd also like decently fast storage speeds as I regularly transfer tens of gigabytes of files around. Would like a 1440p high refresh rate monitor, but I value image quality more than going over 120Hz. I might add a second one, just for reading material though so I'm not concerned about refresh rate or anything with that one. I've done some research and assembled a parts list but I'd appreciate some feedback, given it's my first time doing anything like this. Aesthetics: Chose a case with a mesh side panel as opposed to a glass one as I think it looks a bit more subtle, which I like. Also going for some RGB but not complete unicorn barf, just enough to look nice through the mesh of the case. Going for white and other lighter shades because I think black is a bit boring. Parts list: https://au.pcpartpicker.com/user/mudkipscience/saved/MzKXf7 CPU: Ryzen 5700x - I was going to go with a 5600x but my friend said that an 8 core processor would be more future proof given the current gen consoles are 8 core Motherboard: ASRock B550M Pro4 Micro ATX - Good reviews and it has a USB-C port Cooler: Deepcool AK400: Recommended by a friend, cheap, good reviews RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro 16GB DDR4-3600 (2x8) - Sweet spot in terms of speed, nice looking RGB Storage: Kingston KC3000 1TB - Decently priced and super fast m.2 PCIe gen 4 SSD GPU: MSI MECH 2X OC Radeon RX 6700XT - Seems to be the best value card that fits in my budget PSU: Corsair RM750 80+ Gold Fully Modular - Just chose something from a well known brand that isnt Gigabyte Case: Asus Prime AP201 MicroATX Mini Tower - I like the smaller form factor, but I'm a bit worried it might be too difficult for a newbie. Also like the mesh, think it will look really nice with some subtle RGB WiFi: Intel AX200 - Cheap WiFi 6 card. Don't have ethernet available in my room and I don't really play competitive games anyway Case fans: No selection - I actually don't know if I need these or if the case comes with them, help please lol I also need accessories. The Logitech G305 is a mouse I already own and like so I'm going to be using that I think. Not sure about the keyboard or display, but I chose some that seemed okay. Creative Labs Pebble speakers as the monitor I chose has really bad speakers built in. I'll use headphones most of the time so the speakers don't need to be amazing, just decent. Appreciate any recommendations or part swaps for cost reductions or better value, I don't make a ton of money and I'm already a bit over my budget ;w; Thanks for the help Edit: Changed out the 970 evo plus for a kingston drive, better performance for $5 more
  14. I spilt a tiny amount of Pepsi on my laptop a few days ago. Left it powered off for about 3 days while upside down on a towel and booted it back up today. Everything seems to work fine except for my intergrated graphics, as when I play mine craft I see weird shapes/flickering on my screen. Is it possible that the intergrated graphics could be damaged without damaging the CPU?
