  1. Hi everyone. I only recently got serious about a gaming monitor to compliment my 2080 ti and am looking for something for productivity and gaming. I don't play competitive games so the super fast refresh rate of TN panels is not important. I also don't know if I can push 144+Hz at this resolution on newer games so rather not go there at all. I am returning a 27 in VA panel and since I loved the deep blacks but hate the viewing angles and colors don't look as good to my eyes. So sticking to IPS panels which narrows the search. I also care about the 3440x1440 resolution since I have good eyes and am used to a 27inch 4k as my daily driver for productivity. From what I can tell, these are my options right now. Have I missed any? reviews are totally mixed and I feel like I am flipping a coin picking between these. Asus: PG348Q Alienware: AW3418DW <-- pretty old but seems like the best reviewed. maybe because there was nothing like it when it was released? Acer: X34P <-- new revision but still doesn't promise 120Hz. are there any others I am missing? I am sure there are new ones coming in the next 6 month but I don't want to play the waiting game unless I am certain there will be a huge difference in the tech. thanks
  2. Hi everyone, I am a first time poster here so please be kind. I have always built my gaming PCs (once every 6-8 years, not a hard core gamer) but recently found an amazing deal on an Alienware Aurora R8 with an RTX 2080 ti and an intel i7 8700 for only $2000 USD. I decided to skip the headache and take advantage of the good deal, Now that I have the machine, I want to make sure it's up to snuff... I have done some gaming and bench-marking and have a few questions. would also appreciate any general guidelines. Is there a free system profiler that will tell me all the parts that are in this system? Are there a couple of generic tests that stress everything? I used the one from userbenchmark.com , results at here https://www.userbenchmark.com/UserRun/15471745 How do I test network connectivity and stability? I am hardwired in but keep losing connection to a game server that I never experienced issues with before... (could totally be the game Anthem has been a mess...). My benchmarks usually look fine... (some overclocking required to get from 30th percentile to 80th in user benchmark. temps below 70 after sustained synthetic load). What else should I run? Heaven 4 at 4k with everything dialed all the way up Score 1373. FPS 54. min 8.8 max 112 Superposition 4k optimized Score 11891 FPS. 88 Min 72 Max 110 My gaming experience at 4k has been decent but not as good as other people... For example, whitcher 3 at Ultra barely gives me 60 FPS even outside of combat. others online are consistently averaging 90 FPS. strangely, even when I reduce the quality of the game to low, I only get about 110 FPS at 4k... Am I running into some bottleneck? CPU usage isn't that high while I play the witcher. Similar story with Anthem and Battlefield V. Any other general advice? Is there a to-do list somewhere I can follow? thanks in advance RK
