  1. What's a good tool to manage my photo library? I'm talking scanning my PC to find photos that are duplicates. Over the years I've backed up photos from my wife's PC to my PC, since then I've bought a NAS and use that to backup my photos locally and to the cloud, but there's likely a lot of duplicates that exist on both of our systems that I've never cleaned up. I'm hoping to find some piece of software to run in windows to search through all my photos and find duplicates and allow me to manage them and clean up my photo library.
  2. Well most of my content will be 1080p or lower and won't require transcode, but I could eventually start getting 4K content and if I'm away from home and want remote access I may need to transcode. So while it's not necessary in most instances for me to transcode, I may eventually need it. But I can always cross that bridge when I get there.
  3. I get that I won't transcode 4k, but will be transcoding if it's downgrading it to 1080p correct?
  4. Hmmm for some reason I didn't think the 3770K had integrated graphics, but apparently it does. I'm not convinced it will be able to do it, but I'll cross that bridge when I come to it, maybe by then I'll be ready to upgrade from my 1080Ti and just use that for transcoding.
  5. I already plan to use a few SSD's for things like a data cache if i need (I'll probably repurpose one of my older m.2 NVME drives as my OS (with a pci card), and an older SATA SSD which will be much better for transferring files to the NAS (I'd think anyways). I do have a plex pass sub, and currently am doing direct play via my QNAP NAS. But it's old age is not able to do many things very well anymore (CPU is an older Intel Atom 2.1 Dual Core Processor with 3 gigs ram max). Just want to know the in's and out's before I fully make the switch. Mainly asking what kind of video card could handle 1 to 2 4k streams with transcoding.
  6. So I have an old system i7-3770K with 16GB ram and an older video card. I want to setup a PLEX server, as my old QNAP NAS is terrible at being that. Was just curious what kind of RAID and NAS software I should use. I'd like the ability to have a way to sync my PC's folders to the NAS, currently I use QSYNC for that. Also would like the ability to send my phone's photos to it as well each night while it's charging. Is there a good piece of software that works for that? I'm a linux noob, so not sure Linux will be right for me unless someone has some good directions on how to get everything setup. I may have to buy a used cheap video card to help with any transcoding as well. What's a good card that can do that (I have an old GTX 670 and a GT730 and maybe a GT1030)? Currently I do not have any 4K media, but it would be nice to at least get something to transcode maybe 1 or 2 4K streams once I get up to needing that. Otherwise most media will just be directly streamed.
  7. Most people just get butcher block counter tops from IKEA, most YouTubers have the karlby top and use alex drawers from ikea to make their desk. https://www.ikea.com/us/en/cat/butcher-block-countertops-46457/
  8. looks like P400 can hold up to 6 with an upgrade and is $100... might be worth it
  9. was hopeful for < $100... looking on newegg there isn't a lot out there that has more than 2 or 3 3.5" drive slots
  10. As title suggests looking for a case that fits ATX that's not too expensive to house my old 3770K. I have an AIO so it'll also need to accommodate a 240 AIO. Looking to run a home server from it mainly using it for PLEX Server for now. It'd be nice to have lots of hard drive room so I can eventually use it as my NAS as well. Currently running a QNAP TS-469L that's about 8 years old. PLEX seems to like to run up the CPU on it pretty high, since I still have my old 3770K laying around I figured I could put it to use as it should easily handle all my needs.
  11. I'll probably go monoprice the way it looks the desk mount seems more substantial. Looks a bit wider and has two desk mount apparatuses. I'd go wall mount but some day I may do a sit stand desk since I work from home.
  12. As the title says, I have 3 monitors and looking to get onto a triple monitor mount. I'm looking for a high quality one that offers lots of adjustment. Should hold up to 32" in case I upgrade to larger monitors someday. Currently I have 2x22" and 1x24". Is gas spring the way to go or is there better for adjustments. I'd like to be able to swivel the side monitors into portrait position as well. I know there's tons of them out on amazon, but I want one that will be sturdy and not wiggle around much if I bump my desk. Curious if anyone else has a triple stand and if they like it or not. Was looking at this one on Monoprice or this one on Amazon.
  13. So my current network consists of some older ASUS routers RT-N56U and RT-AC55U. Looking to upgrade to something that has better signal, range, and speed. I'd go with a Ubiquiti system if I had a little extra cash to spend on everything (also they seem to be out of stock of the products I'm looking at UDM-PRO and WiFi 6 Lite). I'm stuck between ASUS RT-AX86U and RT-AX88U the extra ports from the AX88U would be nice, but then again the AX86U has a multi gig port on it. Is it worth spending the extra on the AX88U or just get the AX86U and small switch (or utilize one of my old routers as a switch) to gain the extra ports I need? In any case my house is roughly 2000 sq ft rambler with a basement (where my networking equipment lives). What do you guys recommend? Is the above good enough or should I look at something else? Right now I have a need of 8 ethernet ports but wouldn't mind having extra if I add any other hardwired devices. I also have easy access to replace existing cables I've ran so I can upgrade cables if they aren't enough to handle the speed I try to push through them.
  14. What other modems do they support? If reviews show the netgear ones tend to fail maybe find something else. Ive had good luck with my arris surfboad modem and linksys modem. I changed to linksys as it wasn't working too well with Comcast. But when I had mediacom my surfboard gave me no issues.
  15. Glad to see I'm not the only one to complain about Comcast... I like their internet, but they charge too much for modem/gateway/cable boxes... I haven't ever used a comcast modem/gateway because I owned mine long before comcast became available in my area. The savings add up, if I ever need to replace my modem I'll just buy a new one it's cheaper than paying for the same modem 5 times over in the time of 3 or 4 years. In any case the OP should probably check with their ISP and see how many up and down channels they have... check forums where other users have the same ISP. My Arris Surfboard was giving me problems on Comcast recently so I switched to my brothers Linksys he was having issues with from his ISP and it worked beautifully.
  16. overall in the states our power seems pretty clean, I've never had an issue burning out routers or any other electrical appliance (outside of my house getting struck by lightning) I still run a really old WRT-54G for extra reach for wireless in my house...
  17. Since I've bought my modem I've had far less issues with my internet... so I actually deal less with my cable company. Rarely do I need to upgrade my modem, I've only upgraded it once in the last 10 years to get DOCSIS 3.1 with more up and down channels than my previous modem.
  18. Most cable companies charge you $10 to $15 a month for a "rental" in a year you can save enough to pay for the modem you bought. Same goes for cable boxes... I only rent a cable card in conjunction with my hdhomerun prime I get free DVR service compared to another $10 to $15 for a DVR box and then additional charges for each box beyond that.
  19. doesn't solve the problem that i need more ethernet ports... I probably understated my abilities, just dont fully understand all the hardware out there... I'm fully capable of doing everything on my own as far as install.
  20. most of my wireless devices don't really move around too much so I'm not sure if I absolutely need mesh... But I obviously want to make sure my network is secure enough as well... literally a networking noob here. I know how they work and how to set them up at a high level but that's about as far as my understanding for them go.
  21. Do you run anything for a firewall? I dont think switches have those built in. I also wasn't aware you could plug and play ubiquity gear without running the rest of their hardware. It's probably within budget a new "mesh" system I was looking at was like 300 to 500 bucks... but didn't really satisfy my networking needs for LAN ports...
  22. I've been limping by on my existing hardware now for a number of years. I have two routers from ASUS that I have linked together to give me wider range in my home for wifi. However I'm at max capacity on my wired devices and wanting to add more. I'm not opposed to getting different networking gear all together, but thinking I want at least a 16 port poe switch with 2 to 3 wireless access points. Just looking on advice for what people recommend. I've been looking at ubiquity but they're super expensive. Also not sure on managed vs unmanaged switches, thinking managed would be nice. I literally know very little about networking hardware so any advice would be awesome!
  23. So remove the pads pre-installed on the corsair spreader? Not sure I follow what you mean.
  24. Just recently bought a MP600 1TB m.2 from Amazon on cyber Monday. Should I remove the heatsink and use the spreader on my mobo or install it in a different m.2 slot and use the heat sink or ditch the internal spreader all together and use the main slot?
