  1. Perfect fans for me. I had thought about using the top for the AIO. Thanks for the suggestion
  2. Fractal Design Meshify C is the case I want to use. I would like to use Noctua fans because I don't really want any RGB (plus its hot where I live so I want some that work well) Not locked in to any AIO but had been looking at some of the Corsair ones
  3. Looking to add some extra fans to my upcoming build, but it'll be my first build. I'm not sure how to plug in all the different fans (adding two 120s to top of case, repalcing rear 120). I will have an AIO, which I'm also not sure about what to do with those fans. Just kinda confused about case fans in general. I've tried googling some case fan videos and stuff but not much is helping me get it. What I know: - There are mobo "headers" (not sure if that's the right word) for different kinds of fans, but no idea what these mean and what gets plugged into where - I understand fan sizes, and I see there are 'fan controllers' but do i Need one? - How do you use something like cpu/gpu temperature, or other temperature to determine fan speed any help, advice, or direction to good links is greatly appreciated
  4. Looking to do a 2nd Gen Ryzen build at some point in the future (to take advantage of the eventual price drop(s)). Also looking to leave the build open to Ryzen 3 upgrade at some point in the future, hence the MoBo I picked. Didn't go for a GPU right now to save a bit/leave room for upgrades, but give me what you think works. For storage, has to be M.2 for the boot drive, but open for additional storage ideas (I just kind of picked some for placeholders). Case is wide open, but please let me know if I will need to purchase any additional fans as well (airflow noob) Location: US Budget: <$800 preferrably; If you can convince me to get to $1K then go for it Aim: Mainly a workstation; Will be running Linux most likely to start with. 5. I'm new to PC building, and I'm looking to set up something super basic and cheap for my first build. I'm looking at CPU's first, and I stumbled across an Intel Xeon E5630 (2.53 Ghz Processor Socket B LGA-1366 Quad-Core 12 MB Cache 5.86 GT/S QPI). I know this is older (and meant for servers i think?), and I'm not looking to build the most righteous PC ever, just looking for something to get my feet wet. It's available for REAL cheap (says certified refurb by intel, not sure if that's reliable, please comment on this if you have an opinion). I will likely be loading Linux (maybe FreeNAS later on?), and finding some other cheap parts to go with this CPU, if it's a worthy purchase. Also, if this is a good CPU, what kind of Mobo should I get for it? Be ruthless people, I'm trying to get better at this whole hardware thing.
  6. That's really awesome @GoldenLag. Thank you. Do you have a recommendation for what order I should acquire the parts? My plan is to accumulate the parts slowly over a few months. If this is a bad plan then tell me please
  7. No preference for switches, and does not have to be a gaming keyboard. I'm not concerned about price either. I just don't want to have to replace it in 6 months is all I really want.
  8. I have big hands and I've never found a keyboard that didn't feel tiny. Anyone have any recommendations/ideas for a larger keyboard?
  9. I know the names of of all the parts I need, but I don't really understand what they do. I've watched some youtube vids and read some guides but I'm still not getting it. Does anyone have any helpful links for helping an idiot like me understand what a CPU does and how it works, along with GPUs, MBs, etc? I want to understand how it all works and works together. Thanks!
  10. Yours seems a better entry build to my novice eye. I just want to get familiar with the process and lay my hands on some hardware for the first time. If I want to understand how to pick better parts myself, how do I start learning that?
  11. @GoldenLag & @Emanbaird I really like both of those suggestions. Thank you very much. (didn't know PCpartpicker was a thing either; thanks a whole lot for that) Do I need to worry about cooling at all? (told you i was a noob)
  12. Also, peripherals are not included in the 500-1000. That is hardware only pretty much. Monitors and peripherals are separate with no real budget, so all suggestions welcome and I will decide later
  13. Yes. Nothing that requires 4K and no VR. Just some city-builders from Steam on this one and I'll be happy.
  14. I want to do my first PC build and really have no idea where to start. There are just too many tutorials and guides, and it all overwhelmed me. I've never built a PC before, and I haven't bought any parts yet so everything is still on the table. Also, I don't know a whole lot about hardware, so if you do have recommendations please tell me why (and explain like I'm a dumb 8-year-old) that will be greatly greatly appreciated. Basically, just help this ultra-noob out please Budget: 500-1000 US$ Aim: Simple gaming (local only/nothing huge), local programming (simply Python and C/++, nothing huge), and maybe some simple video editing (willing to sacrifice for other two) Monitors: 2 max; not looking for outrageous quality (i guess 1080p?) Peripherals: Currently have nothing for it Why: To understand the hardware. I want to be able to build my own high-end gaming PC in the future, but I want to practice putting something much much less expensive together
