PC's and pretty much any electronics and tech, oh and making people laugh. Except i'm not sleeping on 100's and have never won anything in my life, like literally anything not even a stick of gum, which brings my interests down to just looking at tech and dreaming.
  • Biography
well, when i was 12 i was invited to help a tech (small business networking and general IT) company start up, and ever since then I've been like gaming and stuff, but then life happens and i haven't been in the best of places the last few years. Meh.... but hey, I wake up every day and tomorrow is a new one so why be sad and spread pity.....

  1. ALL new barracuda's over 2tb are only 5400. basically only 2 drives are available in 7200 from SG, 2tb and 1TB.
  2. Samsung is extremely reliable regardless of the type of drive. Up until a recent test they are the only drives i've used and i still have a daily used OS running on a nearly 8 year old pair of Samsung 830's that STILL get over 1GB read and near 1gb write speeds (in RAID 0 of course but my point was they still run like day 1 on a reliability factor not the speed though that hasn't decreased either....) 8 years used daily for gaming/video editing, is that reliable enough for you? Samsung is known as one of the BEST memory manufacturers in the world, period. so if you fear reliability go with the best regardless of the series of drive, they will all be made quality.
  3. AOMEI Backupper the free version has worked well for me in the past cloning drives and back-up success as well. Now I own all of their Pro ver. software, but in your case i would just use the free to clone real quick. Another AOMEI tool that's great, and I use almost daily, is AOMEI Partition Manager, just FYI. I've also used Acronis TruImage in the past which also works really well, though i don't think they have a free version
  4. PS that link is to the NEW (2018)version of Sams "EVO Plus" line. DO NOT get confused with the "EVO+" because that is the last gen (2016 i think) and it's waaayy slower and not any different in price so you are really getting robbed. in any case, like i mentioned that's the exact card in my devices now and I'm super happy with it (from my previous orders) and i know the comparison because i had the last gen as well. I had the 64 gig from the EVO+ line back on my galaxy s8+ and i still have the card sitting around collecting dust because i don't know what to do with it since much faster options are out now in the same line that are twice as large for less than half of what i paid for that 64, lol. anyway, hope the link helps and hope the info helps. GL
  5. yup, samsung and Sandisk. though i usually find myself attracted to samsung you can get 128 gb for about 20 bucks or less now with 100MB/s read/write speeds which is fast enough for 4k+. but if you want something really fast like 300MB/s or more SanDisk's extreme or ultra line (i forget which one) does just that but you will pay for it too, i think it's like 40-50 for a 64gig don't quote me on it because just for camera and phone memory it's unnecessarily fast so i never bothered to get too acquainted with those cards. like i said the Samsung "EVO Plus" 128 is plenty fast even for 4k, with realistic read write of 100/90 respectively (105/85 actual tested). here's a link to the cards currently in my Note 10+ and Nikon DSLR https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07BS3HLY9/ref=ox_sc_saved_title_5?smid=A1GC47N5J8F7IJ&psc=1 oh and i highly recommend this 128 for 19 bucks, (yes it's authentic) because the 64gb isn't 10 bucks, so it doesn't make sense to buy the price doesn't scale down any better, only up from here. the 64gig is 14 bucks, so for 19 you might as well buy these 128's
  6. BAHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm ripping my hair out.! Ok, so as you all see last night I had 12 bit color (8/10/12bit in the drop down as options), in 4.2.2 (since hdmi 2.0b doesnt have the bandwidth needed for RGB or 4.4.4 @ 12 or even 10 bit at 4k/60), which i don't mind it's a small compromise to get 12 bit depth at 4k/60. Just as i stated, it was all there nothing changed through several reboots, sleep/wake cycles, etc. I wake up this morning, and go to use PC, (which I mind you i actually didn't turn off after i last used it last night while still having HDR on, and the settings at least available to me), and it's all gone again, and this time Netflix does NOT bring it back.... So i've lost all settings, HDR is off, and no way to brign it back, and when i go into the TV menu it's showing as SDR as well, so there is no signal once again...... what the........................................................
  7. PS also, HDMI 2.0B can do higher than 8 bit at that resolution. it can do 10 bit at 60hz running @ 4.2.2. the ports on the 1070 and my display are 2.0b. but my cable is future proof, as i mentioned in original post it's a 2.1 cable so it far supersedes the ports capabilities, but is enough for what i needed it for, it will simply transfer less data per 2.0b specs (up to 18gbps i believe max bit rate, and 14.4 gb max data) in any case, thank you all for the support, the quick replies, the good advice, and conversation with new acquaintances. I appreciate you all. thank you again.
  8. well, to answer your statement... lol... games would run it yes, but it wouldn't display... literally when i say NO hdr i mean NONE anywhere, even if it's auto ran by an app the display would not show/run in HDR color. however, thank you COnstantin for your suggestion, for whatever reason, using those drivers I have it all the time now. and yes i shut it off to under normal conditions, but turn on when watching 4k movies as it makes a huge difference, at least to me because i notice it like night and day. but yeah, anyways, now i have it all the time everywhere, after reboot, sleep, shut down, etc. which is great news. Thank you SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH your greatness!!!! weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee the colors!!! PS: DP 1.4 can do 12 bit easy, even 1.0 can do 16 bit with DCR(or is it DCH) which is a compression method DP uses designed with the release of 1.3b. lol and NVM i just looked it up its "DSC" (Digital Stream Compression).
  9. fair enough I'll do that, however that's only solving the bit depth... how about the fact that there is NO HDR in any setting anywhere on the PC until only 1 app is opened and closed..... Netflix, and i also think of this, what if I didn't have netflix, because i ended the subscription, i just have 18 days left before it cancels. I had deleted the app too, I just happened to reinstall like a day prior just in case i was going to use it a few more times before it ended. anyways back to the point.... had i not had it installed or had this been after the sub ended and i didn't have it period, I would right now still have no HDR, why?
  10. OK, so sratch your heads on this one guys, and Linus if you see this by some small figment of imagination and particle of hope, have you ever seen/heard of such a thing (or anyone for that matter)? So, I have a verified 12-bit HDR 4k display (sharp TV) and a GTX 1070 (ASUS variant) which from what I have read supports 12bit HDR @ 144 hz up to 4k via it's HDMI 2.0b port and DP 1.3(?), am I wrong? please correct me if so, i would invite it. I have it hooked up to this 4k TV and NO HDR! As a matter of fact, in the NVidia Control Panel it shows 3840x2160p @ 8bit (though i think its actually displaying at 6bit) @ YCbCr420 Limited dynamic range, which i will add are actually greyed out drop down menu (you know which ones i'm talking about), so i can't click or change anything even if i wanted. Windows HDR says monitor doesn't support squat, Nvidia Control panel regardless of what I do and regardless at what resolution I do it at 720 through 2160 yields the same results just as stated above, 8 bit limited ybr420......before someone says "the cable", I am using a 6foot HDMI 2.1 48Gbps rated cable, and yes it is 2.1 not 2.0b, thus it surpasses the capabilities of both the card and the HDMI input (2.0b) on the TV input. anyone? why does a 12bit display not show up on ANY windows setting as HDR capable, nor does NVidia control panel allow me to do squat??????? AHH yes, and drivers for the 1070 are 441.66 released like a few days ago, but the same happened on ***.41, ***.28, and ***.20 as well. Now, while you guys try to figure out what the heck is going on with that info, pick your brains deep because here comes the curve ball! let me just begin with this, N O O T H E R A P P E X C E P T T H I S D O E S T H E F O L L O W I N G > One day, not doing anything other than being bored out of my mind and wanting to watch some TV to take my mind off of the issue at hand, when I opened Netflix, ( and i STRESS AGAIN, only netflix) the screen flashes black, then back on, and suddenly HDR appears in the display upper right hand corner, windows HDR settings appear in "desktop settings" and Nvidia control panel suddenly materializes in the previously 3 greyed out menus, RGB (and i can now select, YCbCr420, 422, and 444 in addition to the RGB that's auto selected), 8 bit becomes selectable (though only 8 even though the card and display are capable of 12), Full color range and it's at 3840 x 2160p @ 65hz....whaaaat????? THE ...... ******* just happened????? WHOAAA!!!!!!! Soooooo cool, just as I get happy and celebrate that after over 3 weeks of trying endlessly driving myself insane that I finally have HDR and it's so beautiful and games come to life, and 4k HDR movies are unreal........it all goes away. Yes I loose everything as soon as I put the PC to sleep, reboot, or shut down. The only way to get HDR to work again is to open Netflix, out of all things. Prior to accidentally stumbling into the Netflix discovery, I even tried forcing HDR output with some other means which worked for everyone, and work for me to force 8 > 10 bit during movies, to no avail.... only way HDR is even a thought, is to open and close Netflix... I'm all yours! How do I keep HDR settings and what is going on with this potato 8 year old PC?
