  1. Alright so things took a turn. Haha I went into this asking myself if I wanted an 9700k or a 2700x and now it seems to be 8700k, 2700x or wait for a few months. I appreciate all of the insight - also the 2700x and mobo bundles I was finding were including 3200mhz trudentZ so that covered the memory. I suppose I'll wait a few weeks, see what I can find for cheaper, and worse case wait until April. Thank you guys for the insightful information.
  2. I like where this is going. Intel is what I was thinking, and I was looking at the 8700k but it's price is similar to the 9700k's but it might be viable; a rough price calculation jots the 8700k similarly priced to the 2700(x) build I was looking at. But didn't the 8700k have some issues with thermals to the point that delidding was recommended? And I could wait ... The only reason I was thinking of buying this shortly is because I was going to have the money shortly and was excited for the upgrade. But maybe waiting would be better. But excitement for new hardware is a tough pill to wait for haha
  3. Here's where some of my inexperience in Ryzen comes to play ^ ^' So... Can the 2700x be overclocked even further, or is it something where it can be but it's not worth it and I should just get the 2700? Also... Does it seem like the best case to get that rather than the 9700k, or what's that consensus? Thanks again!
  4. Good evening all, how's it going? To start, what I do on my PC is easy enough. A lot of gaming at 1080p 144hz, eventually 1440p 144hz or an ultrawide resolution. I'm a fan of high refresh gaming. Coding ... Mainly on various projects or whatever, I can do this on anything, just including it as it's something I do on my PC. Occasional video rendering for YouTube. It's done through Adobe Premiere and it's just 1080p 60fps renders. Nothing drastic. I guess handbrake for the rare time a video corrupts at a certain point and I have to break it up. Web browsing, I guess? Games I play are anything from Black Ops 4 (which is barely runnable now because of 100% cpu and abysmal frames as a result), to Battlefield 1 (same story), to COD4, Divinity Original Sin 2, Witcher 3, eventually Cyberpunk 2077, eventually DOOM, and whatever FPS games or RPGs I can get my hands on. Currently, my gaming rig isn't awful. It's got a 4690k OC'd to 4.3GHz, SLI GTX 970s, 16GB of slightly OC'd DDR3 ram and a gold EVGA G2 750W PSU and it's served me well over the last ~4 years. But, as games rely a little more on the extra cores and what have you and my Devils Canyon chip slowly ages, I know an upgrade is what I want. Considering how Black Ops 4 works on my rig, and Battlefield 1, I can only imagine that it's bound to happen more and more. I'll be upgrading the GPU separately; I've decided that I want a 2080 eventually, but I figure the CPU, MOBO, RAM, and CPU Cooler can be upgraded for now, as it's the important one for now, and I'll upgrade the GPU as I save up for it next. But I'm torn between two CPUs. The Ryzen 7 2700x and the i7 9700k. In theory, I imagine I can go with either and be happy. I understand that the 9700k is ~10-40ish fps faster depending on title, and I understand that the 2700x path (cpu, mobo, ram) is $200-300 cheaper for me in Nova Scotia, at least based on one of the combos I was looking at. I think some of my hesitancy is based on I've only really worked with Intel, so I'm only knowledgeable on the chipsets of Intel and stuff like that. I'm also slightly worried about the thermals, and longevity of my purchase. I imagine it'll be a 5-6 year thing unless the CPUs can push that further, but I don't think that, that is possible to predict. Anyway; what would you guys recommend? I do have a question regarding the Ryzen side if that is recommended. I vaguely remember something about brackets for CPU coolers for Ryzen needed to be asked for, or ordered, or whatever, separately. I was looking at the Be Quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4 for cooling. Is this something I have to consider before making the purchase?
