  1. How would you get uncompressed formats delivered to your receiver?
  2. I also heard you can use your HDMI cable and connect it to your GPU and it'd give out a sound output to your receiver? Can anyone validate if this is true?
  3. So I have a Sound Blaster X AE-5 by Creative Labs, had it for about a year. It's currently their "latest and greatest" sound card to put into systems. Recently, my Samsung receiver for my home theater speaker system nearly caught on fire (using a 5.1 home theater system as my pc desktop speakers)--it started smoking all of the sudden during my Rainbow Six Seige match. Back to the main topic and how the things I just said fits into the context. I don't know much about Optical Digital. The most that I know is that the on-board sound device on your PC does not do any processing/decoding. Only the receiver would. Another thing I heard was the biggest issue with optical is that it has support for limited surround sound modes (and only supports 5.1 in compressed not uncompressed formats). Also, not sure about the new home theater system, but with my current one if I plug in an Optical Digital cable to my PC and the receiver, some of the features on my sound card are greyed out (disabled) because it's outputting to an Optical Digital whilst the full feature set is available on a 3.5MM Jack. What are the pros and cons of an Optical Digital and a 3.5MM. What would you guys suggest I use?

  6. You can't really have both. Music headphones don't really have a bunch of smaller drivers in it to give it a surround sound feel for gaming, while gaming headphones don't have the best drivers for music. I'd say just get music-geared headphones.
  7. The room is still under construction. Once it is done, I'll post pictures on this forum. We already ordered a bunch of Klipsch speakers and a Altitude 32 receiver from Trinnov. As the name suggests, it supports 32 channels simultaneously with 2 additional amplifiers from the same company. But anyway, need projector make and models, please.

Okay, so, we've been renovating our garage and converting it to a proper home theater (we're building another garage elsewhere on our property) and the hardest part of this has been for me is picking out the projector. I've been searching for a good month. There are so many good ones. Basically, the key features we are looking for is has to be 4K, HDR (preferably laser-based projector) with a minimum of 2,000 lumens. However, Lamp-based projector is fine too. Projector must support a 200" diagonal screen as that is our screen size. Max budget is $40,000USD for a projector. Currently, we've been considering the Sony VPL-VW995ES or JVC DLA-RS3000. Any other good suggestions would really help.
  9. I don't think you're understanding the essence of what I'm saying, but alright. Let me re-word: IF you have $600+ to BURN THROUGH, another $20 should literally be pocket change. And I'm not sure where you're getting this "1080 isn't a good overclocker--but that's a false statement.
  10. many people still go for 1080. 1070ti = if you overclock it (assuming it's good enough), you'll get same performance as a 1080 STOCK speed founders edition 1080 = if you overclock it, will get even better performance. $600+ GPUs, my point is another $30 should be nothing for them. i'm looking at amazon right now, and the prices are around $20-30 for 1070ti and 1080 difference. in all reality, 1070ti was a horrible move to bring to the market in the first place. 1070 is fine and 1080, don't need a gap filler to fight AMD on a gpu that no one cares about.

  12. i didn't forget about the 1070ti lol it's just too irrelevant to me. in the canadian online retailers, a 1080 cost $20-50 more. if you're willing to spend $670CDN or so on a 1070ti, you spend $30 for a 1080. a 1070ti are not gpus are "budget gamers". 1070ti lineup in general makes no sense, and nvidia will likely not continue the XX70ti lineup for next gen.

  14. personally, i'd just not buy a gpu if I were you nvidia is going to announce their next-gen gpus in two months. by that time, your "new" and expensive gpu will be really outdated and you'll get buyer's remorse don't take any advice from the above tbh. but if you still want to get a new gpu, then get the 1060, or a 1050ti save your money for the next gpu however, if you're strictly deciding between 1070 and 1080ti, go for 1070. my general rule has always been: 1050ti - 1070 = 1080p 1080 or 1080ti = 1440 1080ti = 4k in terms of the monitor, it's honestly up to you if you want gsync or not. personally, i'd get gsync. 1080ti is just way too overkill for 1080p gaming. your cpu load will increase significantly. you'll need a good processor to keep up with your gpu or it will bottleneck it as the only limiting factor in your system will be the cpu. the higher up you go in resolution = less load on cpu and more load on gpu. the lower in resolution = it's vice-versa.
