  1. it was among the many random bios settings thout would fix the issue for a while I reset the bios settings changed memory settings(scrambler support off, proper RAM frequency, TLUD to auto) changed "USB always on" to "Disabled" as this is a well known source of problems, it never worked with this enabled ....Save Settings and restart.... enter sleep mode.... crash open bios again, set "USB always on" to "Enabled", because turning it on and off again has worked reliably for a long while ....Save Settings and restart.... enter sleep mode goes to sleep mode normally wakes up normally this ain't no standard Silicon no more, there oughta be some quantum entanglement going on in there, only thing that would explain the random nature of this stuff
  2. I do not have this option available. is there a bios setting that could do the same thing?
  3. Update: I made the mistake to shut down the laptop, after the reboot it's back to crashing in sleep mode. Throttle stop did seem to help with performance, but there's no fixing that. Now I'm pondering wich Mini PC I should get, kinda torn between the Minisforum UM350 and HM90. I've read that the UM350 can't even use it's full potential due to the limited cooling, won't the same hold true for the HM90? I do like the option to install 2x2.5" drives in the HM90 tho
  4. pretty sure at this point that there's something wrong with the bios I just changed some settings under "azalia" and some other stuff, and it works again for some reason. this is a 10 year old laptop wich, judging by the state of the keaboard, has seen some use and especially abuse. first priority now is to get the files from the harddrive safely transfered to my main rig until the mini PC arrives but I have a strong suspicion the HDD issues are also related to something screwy with the laptop itself as it works just fine in the external case via USB. but it would go to 100% activity randomly without anything being done on it from time to time, and it just disappeared while I was loading files on to it earlier. can't change the CPU voltage, everything is greyed out and checkmarks don't register in that menu
  5. so, I gave this throttlestop a shot and it works, had to adjust the core multiplier and stuff so it would actually do something really like the iGPU power balance option, finally can watch youtube videos in 1080p, 720p was a bit of a stretch before with full turbo it's staying well below 90°C, max was 85, usually stays around 70. no fixing for the standby issue, pretty sure something is cooked, so I just ordered a minisforum mini PC
  6. that would be interesting to try got any ideas on the standby issues tho? I use this laptop as an alarm clock too, but that won't work if it crashes as soon as it goes to standby mode tried the bios thing, no good it's none of the C states either, I tried disabling all C states with no success
  7. well, it's been working fine for 2 hours now after I plugged/unplugged the battery a few times(pretty sure I jinxed it right now) so I'm a bit on the fence if I should buy a new mainboard right away and that's why it is so frustrating, it works fine for a while and then it don't(pretty sure there's a word for being denied a conclusion) is there any way to see what's going on in the background? like what made it decide to do this annoying thing again or wich event triggert that action and so forth? windows event viewer doesn't show anything useful
  8. so, in other words, the mainboard? if my information is correct then the power is regulated on the mainboard
  9. Hello again, I am still having performance issues with my T420, new thread because nobody replied or even noticed my other threads The issues are: 1. CPU randomly throttles down and is locked at 30% utiliziation at 0.7-0.8GHZ entering standby and waking it again can fix this, occasionally I have to completely power down and it will work for an hour or so 2. Random memory loading issue at seemingly random capacities Memory will stop loading after 5, 7, 9 or any other random amount, I can no longer load more memory and have to restart the laptop. The memory is fine as I tested it with an other device with no issue. 3.Randomly crashes in sleep mode occasionally the laptop will start having this issue again usually it can be resolved by turning "USB power in standby" on, booting, restarting and turning it aff again. 4.lower performance with boost enabled even tho the laptop never pass the thermal throttle limit it does not perform any better with boost enabled, usually I see a performance decrease even. the CPU Package power does not exceed 30 watts(35 Watts is the rated TDP) the laptop is perfectly clean inside, I have replaced the thermal paste and adjusted the fan curve(to the extend you can do so)
  10. so....no help from the forum? I also get some other random issues, like dramatic performance drop even tho CPU usage appears normal CPU randomly gets locked to 30% usage at less than 1GHz, won't go above or below 30% sometimes sending it to sleep and waking it up again helps, other times I have to reboot, and occasionally take out the battery and unplug the laptop for a few minutes.
  11. I changed USB settings to "charge with always on USB port" as "enabled" standby works again, until it doesn't... uninstalling the latest windows update did nothing tho
  12. can nobody help me here? I reinstalled windows, it worked for 3 days, now it's back to how it was
  13. it worked for a while after changing some random settings, but after replacing the thermal paste it's back to crashing stock settings or altered settings didn't help it usually is quite random if it works or not, sometimes the windows power plan can make it work or not, other times it doesn't change anything
  14. as stated above, I tried everything and nothing worked it's a T420 with i5-2540M, 128GB NVME and 16GB RAM
